Master of Ten Thousand Foxes
Chapter 873: You Don’t Understand His Terror (2)
Wind roared into her ears; she couldn’t hear the plant manager shouting.
She was dizzy, her body going limp, totally out of it.
In the very last moment, she heard her Master’s voice echo in her mind.
“Spit!”
“Spit onto that lotus leaf!”
So she opened her mouth, and with a “puh”, spat the blood?streaked saliva toward the Iron Lotus Leaf!
The spit flew through the air, the tiny, almost undetectable Gu Insect inside curling and squirming in agitation…
Swish!
Swish!
Drones, one after another, tore through the air, flying in!
Whoosh!
Whoosh!
Mechanical dogs, one after another, turned the corner from the wall, machine guns mounted on their backs!
Zoom!
Zoom!
Silhouettes of Immortal Technique Masters streaked in from afar!
The plant manager, Chen Yuanlin, bolted, legs pumping, trying to escape!
This little girl actually dared attack the Iron Lotus Leaf?
What the hell kind of tier of desperado is this?
He was honestly scared shitless!
…
Thousands of miles away, in Yishui City, at the vegetable market, at the meat stall, Wang Chonghui had just cheerfully bagged a pound of sausages for a customer when his expression suddenly changed!
One of his Gu Insects seemed to have been pulled out of its host’s body?
“Hm?”
He ignored the customer and reached for the Insect Flute tucked in his jacket… was it about to be exposed?
Then fine, just slaughter everyone here and run?
…
Swish! Swish!
More than ten drones had already arrived!
Click! Click!
The machine guns on the mechanical dogs’ backs were already locked onto Hong Xiaoyun!
Zoom!
Wu Qingyun leapt down from the office building, her long Sword ringing as it slid out of the scabbard, blood scabs spreading along the blade!
And that mouthful of bloody spit was still hanging in midair, not yet fallen onto the lotus leaf…
Right at that moment!
Whoo… ooo…
All of a sudden, a wild gale rose between Heaven and Earth, whipping up flying sand, blurring people’s vision, flinging up white snow!
The icy wind instantly froze that mouthful of bloody spit into an ice chunk, then swept it into the white mist where reality and dream’s boundary turned vague.
…
Yishui City, vegetable market.
Wang Chonghui frowned and withdrew the hand reaching for the Insect Flute.
“Spiritual Sense… gone again?
“Seems like… I got it wrong…”
The customer at the meat stall craned his neck.
“Boss, what’s up with you?”
Wang Chonghui hurriedly put on a smile.
“Ah, nothing, nothing at all…”
…
“Master, did we finish the mission?”
Hong Xiaoyun’s body was limp, blood leaking from her seven orifices, frothy blood spilling from her mouth.
In that split second just now, the Marquis had yanked out that Gu, inflicting massive damage on her!
In her mind, the Marquis’s eyes bulged!
“Our mission is complete!
“Xiaoyun’Er, hang in there!
“We got the message through!
“He can’t just watch the messenger die, can he?
“At least save my disciple, damn it!”
The gale faded, and Wu Qingyun landed lightly.
She saw Hong Xiaoyun collapse unconscious, her face soaked in blood, crumpling softly to the ground.
But in the corner by the wall, the Iron Lotus Leaf was rustling, growing!
One lotus leaf stretched out under Hong Xiaoyun, catching her.
Layer upon layer of leaves, like gentle, giant hands, supported Hong Xiaoyun’s body, back, and head, holding her steady.
A fresh lotus shoot sprouted, extended to Hong Xiaoyun’s nostrils, and dripped in crystal clear droplets.
“What’s going on?”
Wu Qingyun was stunned.
Drones formed a ring around them, filming, recording the scene.
The mechanical dogs also all halted, dumbly waiting for orders.
Upstairs.
Bai Mo stepped away from the window, sat back down at his desk, and frowned.
“This… this message delivery… was cutting it pretty damn close.
“What on earth is going on?
“What kind of Ancient Immortal is that?
“Lucky he and I at least have a bit of tacit understanding.”
Hong Xiaoyun’s injuries were already no big deal.
With medicine in her nostrils, another two or three days of sleep and she’d be back to bouncing around.
But that mouthful of bloody spit, that message sent across a thousand miles—what exactly was that?
…
Fox Mountain, inside the dormitory hall.
Foxes lay sprawled every which way, fast asleep. Some resting their chins on their forepaws, some hugging their tails.
A few foxes poked their heads out near the medicine cabinet in the corner of the hall, staring at the blood?stained ice in the Bronze Cup.
“Ying ying ying?”
Star Claw followed Master’s orders and dripped Dragon Ginseng Bitter Soup into the cup.
“Awoo awoo awoo?”
White Earrings stared wide-eyed, glaring at that chunk of ice.
“Ying ying ying?”
Peach Blossom Eyes had just happened to be woken up by the noise and came running to watch the fun.
Star Claw pricked up its triangular ears, carefully listening to every one of Master’s instructions.
They sprinkled Laurel Enchanting Fragrance on the ice, then scattered Purple Dust Sand…
Peach Blossom Eyes ran to the medicine cabinet, occasionally rummaging out a few needed ingredients and handing them to Star Claw.
“Ying ying ying…”
Finally, the last bit of Moon Wheel Ointment was squeezed onto that block of ice, and with a crisp “crack”!
The ice split open into four little holes.
And in each hole, a feeler poked out.
Four feelers swayed gently, like antennae.
The few foxes looked at each other.
“Ying?”
“Aoo?”
What is this?
…
In the office, Bai Mo scrolled through his phone, finished reading Hong Xiaoyun’s itinerary and files from the last few days, then looked over the verification the disciples on Fox Mountain had done, and basically understood.
“Gu Insect?
“Something happened in Yishui City?
“Judging from her record, Hong Xiaoyun looks like an honest sort.
“But that Ancient Immortal Master behind her is pretty clever, pretty slippery.”
His Divine Sense went to the main hall of the dorms on Fox Mountain, and his voice entered the ears of Peach Blossom Eyes, Star Claw, and White Earrings.
“Just so happens—I’ll trouble you three to make a trip.”
…
Hong Xiaoyun opened her eyes and found herself lying on a warm bed.
Her head was still a bit dizzy, with a lingering blood smell in her mouth and nose.
“Mm…”
She looked around and realized this was a brightly lit hospital room.
Doctors in white coats and Immortal Technique Committee members in black uniforms were talking quietly in the distance.
Seeing her wake up, Committee Member Gu Lin stepped forward with a kindly smile.
“Hello, student Hong Xiaoyun.”
Hong Xiaoyun’s heart was in chaos, and she hurriedly asked her Ancient Immortal Master:
“Do I have to talk about what happened in Yishui again?”
In her mind, her Ancient Immortal Master lazily replied:
“No need for that.
“It’s enough that the West State Boss knows.
“Aside from him, the more people know, the more variables there are.”
Committee Member Gu Lin pulled over a chair, sat down at Hong Xiaoyun’s bedside, smiling with narrowed eyes, and didn’t start asking random things.
“Don’t be afraid.
“Right now you’re still a casualty; your body hasn’t fully recovered.
“For now, let’s just chat a bit.
“You… you’re involved with immortals, right?”
Hong Xiaoyun’s gaze dodged.
She’d managed to dodge the previous Spiritual Sense census with her Master’s help.
Committee Member Gu Lin wasn’t angry.
After all, the fact that the West State Boss had personally stepped in to save this girl meant she probably wasn’t a big problem.
“Then, can we talk about your Ancient Immortal Master?
“Can you say her name?”
Hong Xiaoyun nodded.
“That, I can say.
“She herself said she’s the number-one beauty in the Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses.”
The air in the hospital room turned a bit odd.
Committee Member Gu Lin let out an awkward chuckle.
“Uh… I’m not joking, I’m seriously asking.”
Hong Xiaoyun blushed.
“Uh… I’m not joking either. When I asked Master her name before, that’s really what she said.”
In Hong Xiaoyun’s mind, Marquis Qing Yue rolled her White Eye.
“Hmph… I’m not joking either! Across the Nine Kingdoms and Four Seas and Eight Wildernesses, my Immortal Technique may not be the most powerful, but my looks are absolutely unmatched under Heaven!”
Committee Member Gu Lin could only nod.
He could understand.
Ancient Immortals really do come in all shapes and sizes.
Some Ancient Immortals are gloomy, some hypocritical, some irritable… and today he’d met an extremely narcissistic Ancient Immortal.
He pulled out a notebook, chatting as he started taking notes.
This was the first time he’d encountered such a narcissistic type of Ancient Immortal. He had to record it to enrich the Ancient Immortal database.
“Then… has she ever mentioned her origins? Where does she come from? A Holy Land? Or the Celestial Palace?”
Hong Xiaoyun thought for a moment.
“She… she said she’s a useless person who lost a war.
“Her favorite thing is…”
In her mind, Marquis Qing Yue exploded with anger!
“Shut up!
“Silly child, don’t spill everything!”
Hong Xiaoyun closed her mouth at once.
Committee Member Gu Lin froze for a moment, realizing Hong Xiaoyun had just had her mouth covered by the Ancient Immortal, and didn’t find it strange.
He asked a few more questions, but got no answers.
So he just exchanged a few polite words, then got up and left.
Leaving Hong Xiaoyun lying on the bed, still worrying about her hometown.
“Master, do you think the West State Boss can handle this properly?
“Is our mission done? Should we think of a way to find him so you can brief him some more?”
Marquis Qing Yue’s voice was lazy again, returning to her previous useless-lump demeanor.
“No need for that.
“Our mission is already completely finished.
“You don’t understand how terrifying he is.
“Just rest and wait for news.”
