Chapter 625: The King of Jealousy

Rong Taotao planted his feet on either side of the Frost Beauty, his Long Halberd at the ready. Though he couldn’t cover a wide area, his defensive reach was more than enough to protect the Frost Beauty.

The next moment, with a flurry of Soul Power from his knee, a snow-white owl materialized and flew to his shoulder.

The Nightmare Snow Owl immediately understood what was happening. Its head swiveled back and forth, its pair of golden, hawk-like eyes scanning the enemies, meeting the savage gazes of the wolves time and time again.

Most Beast-type Snow Realm Soul Beasts had weak defenses against Spiritual Power—with the exception of those specializing in Spiritual Soul Techniques, of course.

Humanoid Soul Beasts, such as the Frost Beauty and the Snow Monk, were a different matter entirely. Their minds were far more developed than those of Beast-type Soul Beasts. So even if they lacked specific Spiritual Soul Techniques, their base Spiritual Power was considerably higher than that of beasts.

But obviously, the Snowflake Wolves did not fall into this category.

Forget the Snowflake Wolves; even the near-humanoid Pirate Leader Snow Apes would crumble when faced with Spiritual Soul Techniques.

Instantly, under the Nightmare Snow Owl’s gaze, the Snowflake Wolf Pack surrounding Rong Taotao’s group felt their minds grow drowsy and their limbs weaken. They were overcome with the urge to simply collapse and fall asleep.

This should have been a hunt. The prey was surrounded, and the Snowflake Wolves were ready to strike. However…

‘Such a tasty meal is right here… so why am I struggling to keep my eyes open? All I want to do is sleep.’

This… this…

Rong Taotao spoke up, “So, what’s the plan?”

At his side, Gao Lingwei knelt on the ground, checked the Frost Beauty’s injuries, and said, “Let’s take her back first and see if we can save her. There’s no way a Snowflake Wolf Pack could have pushed a Frost Beauty into this state. Something isn’t right here.”

Rong Taotao watched as a Snowflake Wolf not far away swayed unsteadily, then toppled to the ground, completely unconscious…

He tilted his head and rubbed his cheek against the Nightmare Snow Owl’s wing on his shoulder as a reward. “What’s so strange about it? During a blizzard, this Frost Beauty probably ran into some powerful Soul Beast. After escaping with serious injuries, she got targeted by this Snowflake Wolf Pack, is all.”

Gao Lingwei began to explain, “Frost Beauties are social creatures. They travel in groups of at least three to five. Furthermore, their Soul Skill, Snow Dragon Tornado, is exceptionally good for breaking out of encirclements and escaping.

“So for her group to be broken up and for her to be this badly injured, she must have run into an elite unit or encountered an incredibly powerful individual.”

“If we can save her, we’ll get that intel. If it was a Soul Beast Army, we report it. If it was a powerful individual, then that’s even more valuable.” As she spoke, Gao Lingwei patted Rong Taotao’s leg. “Move aside.”

“Oh.” Listening to Gao Lingwei’s patient explanation, Rong Taotao nodded to himself and immediately stepped aside.

Nearby, Cheng Jiangjie, holding the blood-red banner high, listened to Gao Lingwei’s analysis and decision. He agreed with her inwardly but said nothing, tacitly allowing her to take command of the mission.

If this were the captain of any other squad, even if a team member was completely right, the chain of command couldn’t be ignored. How could a team member make decisions without the captain speaking first?

Gao Lingwei said, “Guard me for now. I’m going to quickly treat her wounds.”

As she spoke, Gao Lingwei tore off the sleeve of her camouflage uniform, ripping out a strip of cloth.

In fact, the Frost Beauty’s own tattered clothes seemed perfect for tearing into strips. But one had to be careful; the Frost Beauty’s Snow Cloak only looked like clothing. In reality, it was a part of the Frost Beauty’s body.

In other words, if you tried to tear off the Frost Beauty’s “clothes,” they would simply shatter into motes of frost and scatter across the snow.

While Gao Lingwei bandaged the Frost Beauty, the others kept a vigilant watch.

The Snowflake Wolf Pack could hardly pose a threat to the group.

Forget Cheng Jiangjie and Xu Yiyu; even Rong Taotao alone could stand proudly in their midst, defending, counter-attacking, and slaughtering the pack.

Even though vicious Soul Beasts swarmed outside the Third Wall, a Soul Beast like the Snowflake Wolf had a terrifyingly low Potential Value. Most were between Normal and Excellent Level, with the Wolf King only being Elite Level.

And the nature of this species dictated that a single pack could only have one Wolf King, so…

A surge of Soul Power erupted from Rong Taotao’s elbow.

“HAAA!” Rong Ling appeared abruptly at Rong Taotao’s side, letting out a shout.

“Light up our enemies!” Rong Taotao said. “Yiyu, can you cover us with your Silk Mist Enchanting Robe?”

“Mm,” Xu Yiyu hummed in acknowledgment. With a wave of her right hand, the invisible Silk Mist Enchanting Robe shrouded everyone.

“HA!” Rong Ling shouted again. His cape whipped about under the Soul Power Wave, looking incredibly imposing!

He casually drew a small Heaven-piercing Halberd and pointed it toward the sky.

The next moment, countless Ice Candle Flames rained down from the night sky!

It was a magnificent sight, like a fiery meteor shower.

Bathed in the rain of icy candlelight, the surrounding Snowflake Wolf Pack burst into Ice Candle Flames.

What was even more beautiful was that Xu Yiyu’s normally invisible Silk Mist Enchanting Robe was now outlined by the Ice Candle Flames, transforming it into a burning Ice Candle Robe.

Rong Taotao watched with curiosity. He’d had his suspicions about this Soul Skill for a while, and now, they were finally confirmed!

Beneath the Ice Candle Array, Xu Yiyu stood alone, apart from the others. She wore a large, hooded cloak, and her body was wreathed in roaring flames that shielded her from the harm of the down-pouring Ice Candle Flames.
