Chapter 453: Chapter 453: God of War and God of War

What goes around comes around.

Just a moment ago, Darian had made an entrance disguised as a boss, but now a real boss had actually popped up.

And what is more, he was using Darian’s lines!

Having said that, Darian actually didn’t know much about Ares, the God of War, and his impressions mostly came from Greek mythology.

As for Greek mythology, those who know, know—it was basically half a history of Zeus’s romantic affairs.

As the saying goes, a rabbit doesn’t eat the grass around its burrow, but Zeus? He specifically targeted the grass right around his burrow.

All seven of his wives were blood relatives, ranging from sisters to aunts, and daughters to granddaughters. It was practically a clichéd family ethics drama.

And that was not even the end of it.

Besides his seven legal wives, Zeus had a huge bunch of lovers, both male and female. Their games grew increasingly wild, even richer than the tags on certain websites.

Eight or nine out of ten deities in Greek mythology were Zeus’s spawn; after all, the Father of Gods wasn’t called that for nothing.

If Zeus had just tightened his belt back then, the number of Greek gods would have been cut at least in half.

And Ares was one of Zeus’s sons.

He was the god of war, presiding over violence, cruelty, and impulse, representing the pure desire for war. In modern terms, he was an over-aggressive brute whose mind was filled only with fighting.

Of course, martial valor and actually being able to fight were two different things.

Although the title of God of War sounded intimidating and easily reminded people of a certain bald guy with red tattoos.

But in reality, within Greek mythology, Ares’s battle record could be described as utterly disastrous. Opening his record showed a sea of red—he was either getting beaten up or on his way to getting beaten up.

Especially his arch-nemesis and biological sister Athena, who rubbed his face into the ground every single day, perfectly interpreting what it meant for a younger brother to always be a younger brother.

Because of this, Ares also had a famous nickname: the God Who Manages Wars But Not Winning.

Even though Ares belonged to that group in the loving family chat of Greek mythology who couldn’t even sit at the dining table, he was still a genuine deity nonetheless.

Moreover, as the god of war, as long as wars were still happening in the world, his strength would increase. The larger the scale of the war, the stronger the boost.

With today’s global melee sweeping across the world, who knew how high of a buff had been stacked.

But this didn’t mean Darian was afraid of Ares.

A mere God of War with an entirely defeated record had the nerve to utter wild words and treat him as ingredients.

If word of this got out, how could he show his face in the future?

Darian snorted coldly: "Don’t think that I won’t dare to beat you just because you’re Zeus’s son. I’ve even beaten Odin’s two sons; who do you think you are?"

His words seemed to hit one of Ares’s sore spots.

Ares’s expression sank, and his gaze turned cold: "Do not mention my father to me!"

Darian raised an eyebrow, immediately realizing that the father-son relationship wasn’t very good.

But he had always been rebellious; the more Ares forbade him from mentioning it, the more he insisted on doing so.

"What’s wrong? Could it be that because you were disobedient, Zeus locked you up in a small dark room and whipped your bottom with the Five-Fold Lightning Whip?"

Darian spoke in an extremely punchable tone, continuing maliciously: "Or perhaps, one day when you went home, you unexpectedly found Zeus actually lying in your bed, and unexpectedly found that your wife was also lying in your bed..."

"Shut up!"

Ares instantly flew into a rage from embarrassment, his aura erupting with a resounding boom, filled with a murderous intent that resembled the simultaneous roaring of thousands of troops and horses.

The surrounding air instantly became incomparably heavy, and the ground beneath his feet couldn’t bear this pressure, being depressed into a huge concave surface as cracks crazily spread outwards like a spiderweb.

Ares abruptly raised his hand to lift the carved walking stick and swung it downward through the air toward Darian’s direction.

In an instant, a crimson-red energy surged out from the top of the staff, shattering the ground inch by inch along the way as it blasted straight toward Darian.

Darian stood in place without moving.

Just at the moment when that crimson energy was about to strike, the yellow robe on his body suddenly released a massive amount of fear energy, condensing into a thick shield in front of him.

Boom!

The crimson energy slammed fiercely into the shield, exploding with an earth-shaking loud noise.

A powerful Shockwave erupted between the two, sweeping outward in all directions and blowing away all the surrounding ruins and debris, while billowing dust instantly filled the entire area.

Before the dust could disperse, a dark figure suddenly rushed out from within. The carved walking stick tore through the air, cleaving toward Darian with a sharp whistling sound.

The Spear of Longinus appeared out of thin air in Darian’s hand, and he blocked horizontally with it.

Clang!!

A sound of metal clashing resounded through the entire battlefield, jarring one’s eardrums with pain.

At this moment, the carved walking stick in Ares’s hand had changed its appearance, turning into a gold-and-black double-edged giant axe, with the axe blade pressing fiercely down upon the Spear of Longinus.

However, Darian’s strength was not weak either. He planted his horse stance firmly, stubbornly resisting the opponent’s force without yielding an inch.

The two engaged in a contest of strength, simultaneously bursting forth with massive golden and red energies. The two forces collided crazily, fierce winds carrying gravel flying in all directions, and the ground beneath their feet collapsed downward in rings.

"Hahahaha! Exhilarating! Too exhilarating!"

Ares’s face was filled with fanaticism, his laughter deafening: "This is the divine war I’ve been looking forward to for so long! A true divine war!"

Back then, the reason he chose Diana and Arthur, besides fancying that the countries they represented were strong enough, was another very important reason: both of these people carried the power of the old gods.

The war between them, in a certain sense, could barely be considered a divine war.

After all, the power brought by a major battle between deities was completely on a different tier from that of ordinary wars waged by mortals.

Ares had originally expected to draw far more power than ever before from this war, but the result left him bitterly disappointed.

The scene of Diana and Arthur fighting fell short of the divine war he had anticipated by more than a hundred thousand miles.

It was like walking into a cinema intending to watch a top-tier special effects popcorn blockbuster, only to find when the movie started that it was all shoddy crap with fifty-cent special effects.

What the f***, refund!

Amidst his disappointment, Ares unexpectedly discovered Darian.

A new god.

This discovery made him excited all over again.

Since the wars of those old god descendants couldn’t satisfy him, he might as well be self-sufficient.

With him, the head coach, personally warming up and entering the field to have a real divine war with Darian, the new god, he would maximize the gold content of this war directly.

Although Darian had no way of reading Ares’s thoughts, it wasn’t hard to guess what this fellow was scheming.

He said with a look of disdain: "How hard is it to want a divine war? You can just go find Zeus and fight him."

Ares’s expression didn’t change; he directly pretended not to hear.

He was just reckless, not stupid.

Single-handedly fighting his dad Zeus—wasn’t that purely having a death wish?

"New god, bring out all your skills and please me to your heart’s content!"

Ares laughed wildly as the red light all over his body surged violently, transforming into an invisible Shockwave force that slammed fiercely into Darian.

Boom!

Darian was pushed several thousand meters away, his feet plowing two deep scratches into the ground before he steadily regained his footing.

He looked up again to see Ares walking toward him step by step, his figure gradually expanding. The suit on his body was directly torn into pieces, with strips of fabric flying about.

At the same time, the metal fragments and gravel pieces in the surrounding ruins, as if guided by an invisible force, flew up from the ground one after another and converged toward Ares’s body.

The moment those metals and rocks touched the crimson light on his body, they were instantly melted and shaped, flowing and solidifying along the contours of his body—shoulder guards, breastplate, greaves... gradually piecing together into a sharp-lined black battle armor.

On his head, a ferocious sealed helmet condensed, with two pairs of large and small curved horns extending from both sides, filled with an oppressive sense of wildness and power.

Ares raised his right hand, extended two fingers, and slashed downward against the front of the helmet.

The place where his fingertips passed melted like magma, revealing two narrow slits. Inside were a pair of blood-red eyes staring intently at Darian, carrying undisguised battle intent.

"Acting all cool like that?"

Darian raised an eyebrow.

The thing he hated most in his life was someone acting even cooler than him.

He immediately gripped the Spear of Longinus tightly. A charged glow bloomed in his hand, and then a huge golden blade of light slashed out from the tip of the spear. When it flew into mid-air, it suddenly dispersed, transforming into hundreds of fine golden bladelets that enveloped Ares within them.

"magic?"

Ares saw through the essence of these golden bladelets at a glance and was somewhat surprised.

He had thought Darian was a warrior; given such formidable strength, he looked every bit like someone taking the close-combat route. He hadn’t expected the opponent to actually be a mage.

Fortunately, he wasn’t a pure warrior either.

Ares extended his palm forward, and the ground instantly cracked into large pieces. Countless heavy stone walls rose from the ground before him, erecting themselves layer upon layer in front of him.

The golden bladelets collided with them one after another, exploding with flying stone chips and churning dust. The energy was stripped away layer by layer, and finally, they were all blocked.

Immediately following this, Ares swung his backhand, and those blasted-apart rock chunks instantly rolled backward, pouring toward Darian like a fierce storm.

"You really live up to your face. Anyone who didn’t know would think you were some kind of Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher."

Seeing Ares, a dignified God of War, actually playing with magic, Darian couldn’t help but make a snarky remark.

Snarking aside, the movements of his hands weren’t slow at all.

The hem of the yellow robe suddenly flipped open, and dozens of black tentacles darted out from within, extending more than a dozen meters in front of Darian. They whipped around rapidly like long lashes, forming an airtight protective barrier.

The flying rock chunks were either directly batted away or shattered into powder on the spot; not a single piece could get close to Darian’s body.

The view before him suddenly cleared up, and Ares on the opposite side had already disappeared. Darian’s eyeballs spun rapidly, instantly locking onto a figure falling from mid-air.

Ares had already rushed to the top of his head, his double-edged giant axe wrapped in crimson flame Chi, cleaving down fiercely toward his face.

Darian kicked off hard with his feet, executing an invincible step backward to immediately exit the attack range.

Rumble—!

The axe blade smashed heavily onto the ground, causing the surrounding layer of rock to present a wavy shape, surging upward layer by layer as countless rock chunks were thrown into mid-air.

Missing his strike, Ares didn’t pause in the slightest.

The moment his feet touched the ground, his figure flickered and he disappeared from the spot, chasing to Darian’s front in almost the exact same instant. The giant axe in his hand transformed into a sky-filling shadow of axes, coming down overwhelmingly toward Darian.

Darian was fearless, gripping the Spear of Longinus tightly to meet him head-on.

Clang! Clang! Clang! Clang—!

The spear and axe clashed crazily, the loud sounds of metal clashing so dense that almost no gaps could be distinguished. It sounded just like thundering war drums, making one’s scalp tingle.

Every collision blasted open a circle of visible air waves, pushing the surrounding gravel and dust to fly scattering in all directions.

The two fought faster and faster, until later on it was completely impossible to see their specific movements clearly.

One could only see two golden and red afterimages colliding back and forth among the ruins. Wherever they passed, the ground collapsed and walls shattered, making the entire area look as if it had been plowed back and forth by a storm several times over.

The commotion of their battle was simply too huge; even the people on the distant battlefield couldn’t help stopping their actions, looking over toward Darian and Ares’s direction one after another.

Which immortal beings are fighting here?

For a time, countless people on the battlefield began to pay attention to this unimaginable duel.

And those two people at the center of the storm had no intention of stopping at all.

Under the blessing of this global-sweeping war, Ares was simply ridiculously strong. His axe momentum was as heavy as a mountain, and every strike carried extremely terrifying force, like an untiring machine of war.

Fortunately, Darian wasn’t bad either; this war’s blessing to him was equally massive.

Countless emotions of fear surged toward him from all directions on the battlefield. Through the conversion of the Parallax nuclear battery, the fear energy could be said to be inexhaustible and limitless.

Moreover, now the sun had risen, and the early morning light fell upon the ruins as well as upon Darian. The blessing of the Sin of Pride skill was gradually strengthening, and his physical fitness was continuously rising along with it.

Ares quickly felt Darian’s change and said in shock: "Your strength is actually strengthening! What kind of god are you anyway?"

He was the god of war, and his power came from war. The more persistent and larger-scale this war was, the stronger he would be.

But how could this new god before him grow stronger the more they fought?

Darian naturally wouldn’t be stupid enough to expose his own intelligence, and sneered: "You can’t even tell this? Naturally, I am the god of battle. The more I fight, the stronger I get. You can also call me the God of War!"

Ares: "..."

If you are the God of War, then who am I?

Ares was extremely surprised.

Although he felt Darian was talking nonsense, the facts were right before his eyes. Judging from the current scene, this fellow truly grew more courageous with every battle, and the upper limit was completely nowhere in sight.

Could it be that the opponent was truly the god of battle?

Ares couldn’t help feeling somewhat envious.

If he had a choice, he would also want to be the god of battle rather than the god of war, so that he wouldn’t have to rack his brains every day to instigate wars.

A muscle-bound brute like him had to consume his already meager brain cells day in and day out for a livelihood, planning all kinds of schemes and wracking his brains to create wars. It was truly too difficult for him.

But if he didn’t stir up trouble, his power would decline, and during future gatherings on Mount Olympus, he probably wouldn’t even be able to sit at the children’s table.

Being both gods of war, why could Darian improve his strength simply by fighting?

The more Ares thought about it, the more upset he became.

However, he also knew that if Darian were truly the god of battle, continuing to fight like this would only make the opponent stronger and stronger, becoming increasingly unfavorable to himself.

Thinking of this, Ares deflected Darian’s Spear of Longinus, his entire body soaring into the air and rushing to mid-air in the blink of an eye.

He hovered high in the sky, raising his left hand with his five fingers spread open. The sky instantly gathered dark clouds, and the previous light rain turned into a torrential downpour in the blink of an eye. Thunder rolled crazily among the cloud layers with continuous roaring sounds.

Ares’s palm clenched abruptly, and the thunder that seemed far away at the edge of the sky was actually grasped into his hand out of thin air, blooming with dazzling electric light.

Darian exclaimed in admiration: "Good fellow, as expected of having Zeus’s bloodline; your lightning-wielding tech is much better than Thor’s."

He silently lowered Thor’s lightning manipulation ranking by one spot in his heart.

However, facing Ares who manipulated lightning, Darian was not flustered in the slightest.

He had a ultimate killer move against lightning, which was the lightning rod Max; no lightning could ever hope to strike him.

Darian smiled disdainfully, decisively pulling out the Pure Iron Poké Ball and smashing it onto the ground.

"Come out, Max!"

However, the Pure Iron Poké Ball landed on the ground, rolled twice, and had not a single bit of movement.

Darian’s expression instantly froze.

It was over; he seemed to have released Max.
