Chapter 94: Chapter 94: Homecoming (1)

Daniel swaggered all the way back to Earth, towing Dr. Lawson’s laboratory, the Kree Empire’s patrol cruiser, behind him. The funny thing was that the ship didn’t actually need to be towed.

Its power reserves were still completely full. After floating in outer space for years, constantly basking in the warmth of the sun, its energy supply hadn’t dropped in the slightest. It was perfectly capable of flying back to Earth under its own power.

The only problem, Daniel had no idea how to fly it.

Carol, Yon-Rogg, and Talos all knew how, Daniel simply wouldn’t let any of them touch it. His reasoning was simple.

"This is my first spaceship. From now on, the first person to ever pilot it can only be me."

And so, instead of learning how to operate it, he simply dragged the entire ship back to Earth. He was in an exceptionally good mood, as he had a brand-new ride. He’d also gotten his hands on an Infinity Stone. So, these past two days had been unbelievably profitable.

Not only had he finally grown out of his childhood stage, his strength had skyrocketed, but he’d also achieved complete, one hundred percent control over his powers.

Now, becoming a real man was just around the corner.

During the few minutes it took Daniel to haul the cruiser back to Earth, every nation with satellites, as well as countless organizations and corporations, frantically aimed their satellites at him, snapping photo after photo.

Daniel couldn’t have cared less. Go ahead and take all the pictures you want. See this ridiculously awesome spaceship? It’s mine.

Do you want it? Then come and try taking it from me if you’ve got the guts. The more he thought about it, the happier he became. If someone actually tried stealing his spaceship, should he crush them, or demand compensation first?

He was openly showing off. After all, footage of his battle against the Accuser fleet was already sitting on the desks of leaders around the world.

A fireworks display of that scale in outer space, so there was no way the world’s governments hadn’t noticed. Aside from once again wondering why Earth had somehow produced a monster like Daniel, there was little anyone could do about it.

What made things even worse was that, according to intelligence reports, the woman fighting alongside Daniel was his older sister.

Carol Danvers.

Any ambitious individuals who had still harbored unrealistic ideas immediately extinguished them. They already couldn’t deal with Daniel, now there were two of them. The situation was truly hopeless and headache inducing.

Over the past six years, Daniel’s combat capabilities had been reassessed countless times. Every single evaluation reached the same conclusion: do not make an enemy of him.

His danger rating had long since shattered every conceivable ceiling. These days, several hundred new residents had quietly moved into Smallville. Every single one belonged to one government agency or another.

But none of them were there to fight Daniel. They were there, to protect him or more accurately to protect John and Mary. The world’s leaders were terrified that some lunatic might try to assassinate Daniel’s parents and if that happened he may completely lose control from the shock and decide to destroy the planet.

Who could possibly stop him? The tornadoes created simply because Daniel had flown after Carol when she disappeared had already caused damages worth tens of billions and that had only been because she went missing.

If someone close to him actually died, wouldn’t that practically be the end of the world?

Even Susan had people secretly assigned to protect her around the clock.

The moment Daniel landed, his phone rang, it was Tony.

"I heard you got yourself a pretty big toy?" Tony asked.

"It’s alright."

"Just an old patrol cruiser. It’s been in service for over a decade, so the equipment’s a little outdated. The engines are obsolete too. It can only manage a few hundred light years per hyperspace jump."

"And the shields are pretty weak. They can barely withstand nuclear weapons."

"Honestly, it’s outdated."

The smug satisfaction practically overflowing from Daniel’s voice was so obvious that even the cat in Nick’s arms could hear it.

Earlier, while they were still aboard the cruiser, Daniel had carefully questioned Yon-Rogg about every single performance specification the ship had. Tony’s phone call couldn’t have come at a better time and there was no way Daniel was going to miss an opportunity like this.

"...Sorry."

"I think I called the wrong number."

Tony hung up immediately.

Daniel instantly called him back.

"Tomorrow."

"Let’s have a party tomorrow. Carol’s finally back."

"We’ll hold it on my spaceship. Everyone can come hang out. I just checked the kitchen. The cooking equipment is amazing. You just put in the ingredients, and it cooks everything automatically."

"I think I have a meeting tomorrow."

Tony answered without much enthusiasm, he genuinely didn’t want to go. If he did, Daniel would spend the entire day showing off and Tony absolutely refused to let someone else show off in front of him.

"I need you to tune up the ship."

"Help me modify it."

Daniel knew exactly how to tempt him.

"Since we’re friends, I’ll help you this time."

"What time tomorrow?" Tony asked.

"Tomorrow at noon."

Daniel thought for a moment before deciding.

"Okay."

Tony hung up again before Daniel could say another word. Otherwise, knowing Daniel, the bragging would never end.

After putting away his phone, Daniel noticed Nick reluctantly stepping off the spaceship, looking as though he was leaving behind the love of his life.

"I think this ship is a little old."

"S.H.I.E.L.D. can help you maintain it and that too free of charge."

"We have plenty of top-tier engineers."

Nick added the last sentence with a smile.

"No thanks, I’ve already hired Stark Industries."

Daniel refused without hesitation. Nick looked like he wanted to continue persuading him.

"I’ve already contacted Stark Industries."

Daniel repeated himself.

"Tony’s coming over."

"...Alright."

Nick spread his hands helplessly. After all, everyone knew Tony Stark was a genius. Since taking over Stark Industries, he’d developed countless advanced weapons. A huge portion of the company’s current market value existed because Tony himself was there.

Daniel turned to look at Yon-Rogg, Talos, and the other Skrulls. Now he had another problem. What was he supposed to do with all these people?

Yon-Rogg was easy, just throw him somewhere, let him wait. When it was time to head to Hala, bring him along, beat him half to death. Then toss him back onto Hala, it was pretty simple.

The real issue was Talos and the Skrulls. That fool Carol had already promised to help them find the rest of their people and rebuild their home. But there was no way Daniel was letting Carol leave immediately.

Their parents had waited six whole years for her to come home. If she didn’t stay with them for at least a month or two, how could that possibly be acceptable?

Even if Carol wanted to leave, she wasn’t going anywhere. If she tried sneaking off early, Daniel would break her legs. Unless she somehow managed to beat Daniel in a fight, otherwise, escaping wasn’t an option.

That meant Talos and the Skrulls needed somewhere to stay for the next month or two. As for whether they had any objections, they weren’t exactly in a position to complain.

Daniel was still annoyed that Talos had practically talked Carol into working for nothing. After thinking for a while, Daniel pointed at Talos, Yon-Rogg, and the others before looking at Nick.

"I’m leaving them with you."

"Didn’t you say S.H.I.E.L.D. has a lot of influence? So, find somewhere to settle them."

"At most, it’ll be two months. Carol and I will send them off after that."

Nick nodded with an expression that made it seem as though Daniel had just entrusted him with an impossible mission.

What Daniel didn’t know was that Nick was celebrating inside. These people were aliens and their technology was obviously far beyond Earth’s. If Nick could casually learn even a tiny fraction of what they knew, the benefits to S.H.I.E.L.D. would be immeasurable.

Before they left, Daniel had one final thing to say.

"I’m sure they’re all peace loving people and they probably won’t cause you any trouble. Still, I’ll give you my phone number, so if anything happens, just call me."

The moment Nick received Daniel’s number, he stopped pretending to look troubled. Grinning from ear to ear, he immediately dialed it.

"Let’s save each other’s numbers."

He smiled while secretly confirming that Daniel had given him the correct one. The future Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was really a cautious man.

Talos and the others didn’t object. After expressing their heartfelt gratitude to both Daniel and Carol over and over again, they obediently followed Nick once S.H.I.E.L.D.’s agents arrived to pick them up.

...

"Let’s go, we’re going home."

Daniel glanced at Carol and spoke with obvious annoyance.

"How about we go to your house on Long Island today instead? You said you’d introduce me to your girlfriend."

Carol sounded a little nervous. After being away for six years, she wasn’t quite ready to face John and Mary.

"Oh, enough of this nonsense, we’re going back to Smallville."

"They’ve been waiting for you for six years and they’ve thought about you every single day."

Without giving Carol another chance to protest, Daniel grabbed her by the wrist and flew straight towards Smallville.

The spaceship stayed where it was. All he had to do was activate its cloaking system. As long as it remained invisible to ordinary people, that was enough. Besides, nobody had the courage to touch anything that belonged to Daniel Danvers.
