Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Hidden Ship (bonus)

The Accuser flagship was falling apart. Explosions ripped through the massive vessel one after another as flames spread throughout the ship. Holding his Universal Weapon tightly in one hand, Ronan headed toward the escape pods with his second in command.

His pace was calm and unhurried. Even at a time like this, he refused to lose his composure. As they walked, he declared in his usual solemn tone, "They’ll be ours sooner or later."

The officer beside him remained silent. He knew Ronan far too well. After serving under him for so many years, he understood exactly what kind of person the Accuser was.

Ronan was scared, this intimidating declaration was nothing more than another attempt to look confident. The last time Ronan had been thoroughly beaten by that Titan, he’d said almost the exact same thing afterward, but the officer wisely chose not to call him out on it, after all, he wasn’t eager to risk his position.

The remnants of the Accuser Fleet eventually escaped with only a little over a dozen survivors.

...

"Carol, this is all your fault."

Daniel sighed dramatically.

Carol looked at him in confusion.

"Hm?"

"Why’d you blow up all those ships?" He looked genuinely heartbroken. "Do you have any idea how valuable those things are?"

Carol rolled her eyes. "You blew up the other half yourself."

"Only because you blew yours up first!" Daniel replied matter of factly.

"What, was I supposed to lose to you?"

Carol "..."

Daniel’s heart ached, as not a single ship had survived. Every last one had been reduced to floating debris. Thinking back on the battle, he couldn’t help feeling it had ended too quickly.

It had been far too easy. Still, the explosions had been beautiful. Destroying spaceships really was fun, much more fun than... well, smashing other things.

Earlier, he’d deliberately let Ronan escape. He could have stopped him, but he simply chose not to. Hopefully Ronan would return with another fleet someday. That way, Daniel could enjoy blowing up spaceships all over again.

...

Back at S.H.I.E.L.D.

The moment Yon-Rogg saw Daniel and Carol return chatting and laughing together, he immediately knew the outcome, Ronan had definitely suffered.

For some reason, that made him feel much better. At least he wasn’t the only unlucky one anymore. He still held onto one tiny sliver of hope. Back when I was pretending to be Carol’s mentor, our relationship wasn’t that bad.

So, maybe she won’t kill me. Maybe I’ll actually get to return to Hala.

Even the great Accuser Ronan failed. Compared to that, my own mission failure won’t seem so embarrassing. Who knows, maybe they’ll even let me assemble another squad afterward.

Next time, no matter what anyone says, I’m never coming back to C-53. This place has monsters.

What Yon-Rogg didn’t know was that Ronan had already mentally written his name onto a very long list.

...

"So?" Nick asked. "The Accuser Fleet’s dealt with?"

Daniel nodded.

Nick couldn’t help staring, that was way too fast.

Had they even been gone for five minutes? Were alien fleets really this weak?

Carol walked over to Talos.

"In a little while, I’ll take you to the coordinates Dr. Lawson left behind."

"If everything you’ve told me is true, then I’ll help your people."

Talos immediately nodded gratefully.

"Thank you."

"Thank you so much."

Carol continued, "The coordinates are in outer space. So we’ll need a ship, one capable of reaching orbit."

She turned towards Nick.

"Fury."

"What happened to the aircraft we flew here in?"

"It’s parked outside."

Nick replied while absentmindedly cradling Goose. At this point, the cat practically never left his arms.

"I’ll modify it and once it’s ready, we’ll leave."

Then she glanced towards Yon-Rogg lying on the floor.

"Stop pretending to be dead. Come and help."

She lightly nudged him with her foot. Yon-Rogg obediently climbed to his feet. Without a word, he followed Carol outside.

Daniel watched them curiously. He honestly didn’t believe Carol could modify an aircraft, not with those grades she’d had in high school.

Brains were wonderful things. Unfortunately, Mary and John somehow managed to raise two children who seemed to have skipped that department. Even with his super brain, Daniel still considered himself more of a fake genius than a real scientist.

As for Carol? She could modify an aircraft?

Sure, and Daniel could probably hammer together a Transformer with his bare hands.

Yet, when Daniel, Nick, and Talos arrived at the hangar, Carol and Yon-Rogg had already disassembled half the aircraft’s engines.

"Kree technology..." Talos glanced over and scoffed dismissively.

Watching Carol skillfully modify the aircraft, Daniel was genuinely stunned.

"How are you doing that?" he asked.

He clearly remembered Carol copying his homework all throughout high school. How had she suddenly become this capable?

Someone had once dreamed of building a supersonic motorcycle. Years later, that dream hadn’t even made a splash.

Carol simply ignored him. Was she supposed to admit she was cheating? Everything she was doing came from the intelligent assistance system built into her combat suit. She was merely following the step by step instructions it displayed.

Thinking about the suit’s assistance system reminded her of something else. The Supreme Intelligence had once implanted a chip at the back of her neck. Whenever her emotions became unstable, the chip allowed the Supreme Intelligence to calm and manipulate her.

Now, it was gone. It had probably been destroyed during her fight with Daniel. Oddly enough, Carol actually wanted to meet the Supreme Intelligence again.

Not for any profound reason, it was simply because, inside the virtual world, the Supreme Intelligence always appeared with Daniel’s face. She couldn’t beat the real one, maybe she’d settle for beating up the fake one instead.

...

It took only half a day for Carol and Yon-Rogg to finish modifying the aircraft. Originally, Carol had no intention of bringing Nick along. But after takeoff, somehow, Nick had secretly sneaked aboard. Naturally, Goose came with him.

"Hi, everyone."

Nick greeted them with an especially smug grin. He lifted one of Goose’s little paws.

"Goose. Say hello to everybody."

"Come on now."

Goose didn’t react. Nick held the cat directly in front of his own face and gently shook its paw.

"Come on, little cutie."

"Why aren’t you listening?"

"Ow!"

Nick cried out. Goose had scratched his left eye again. Clutching his eye, Nick glared at the orange cat.

"Meow."

Goose lazily let out a soft meow. Immediately, Nick wasn’t angry anymore. He hugged Goose back into his arms.

"You’re just too adorable."

Watching Nick act like the world’s most devoted cat owner, Talos silently sighed. This man’s finished. At this rate, he’s destined to spend the rest of his life as a one eyed man.

...

After more than half an hour of flight, the aircraft arrived at the coordinates Dr. Lawson had left behind. Nick looked around through the cockpit windows.

"There’s nothing here."

Carol shot him an exasperated look. Then she tapped the display built into the gauntlet on her left arm.

"Cloaking mode..."

"Deactivate."

The empty stretch of space rippled. A gigantic spacecraft slowly appeared before everyone’s eyes. Daniel immediately leaned forward from the co-pilot’s seat.

"This ship is mine. If anyone tries to take it, I’ll make them regret it."

He declared ownership without the slightest hesitation. In his mind, he was already calculating how much this enormous spaceship could sell for. His eyes practically turned into dollar signs.

Nick opened his mouth as if to argue. Then he noticed the murderous look Daniel gave him. He immediately swallowed every word.

Forget it, you’re stronger than I am. I’m not fighting you over it.

Talos and Yon-Rogg had no right to object, they were prisoners. Carol was family. So naturally, the ship now belonged to Daniel.

As soon as the aircraft landed inside the massive vessel, Daniel was the first one to jump out. He enthusiastically ran over and began rubbing the walls of the ship.

"Look at this!"

He clicked his tongue in admiration.

"What incredible material, just look how durable it is. This is definitely some kind of high-grade alloy."

"It must’ve costed a fortune to build."

Standing nearby, Nick rolled his eyes. ’Don’t think just because I’ve only got one good eye, I didn’t see that. You were rubbing that wall a second ago and somehow managed to leave a handprint in solid metal. Go on, take your hand off it, I dare you.’
