Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman
Chapter 75: Sinking Island (bonus)
Chapter 75: Chapter 75: Sinking Island (bonus)
"I really got lost!"
T’Challa shouted at the top of his lungs while dodging incoming shells.
These people were way too unfriendly! The moment they arrived, the heavy weapons came out. Who was supposed to deal with that?
Although he sounded cowardly, T’Challa’s actions were anything but. He charged straight into the middle of the enemy forces. He wasn’t stupid, being surrounded by Hydra soldiers was far better than standing out in the open as a target for artillery fire.
Besides, he was a close-combat fighter specializing in speed and agility. Weaving through the crowd, T’Challa fully utilized his greatest advantage. His body blurred across the battlefield.
One moment he was here. The next he was somewhere else. For a while, he completely overwhelmed the enemy.
After all, bullets didn’t really threaten him and unless Hydra wanted to start firing missiles directly into their own troops, there wasn’t much they could do.
’This isn’t so difficult after all.’
T’Challa’s confidence immediately began rising. Ever since meeting Daniel, he’d been beaten so often that he’d nearly lost faith in his own abilities. Now he was finally proving himself.
"Behold my divine might! Nothing can stop me!"
T’Challa shouted dramatically, he was having the time of his life.
Punching. kicking, slashing. Sometimes standing upright and sometimes sprinting on all fours.
He looked exactly like a giant human-shaped panther tearing through the battlefield. Watching T’Challa rampage through the enemy ranks, Daniel suddenly thought of Carol.
’I wonder how Carol’s doing.’
’Is she okay?’
The thought appeared out of nowhere.
Carol had also undergone enhancement through the Heart-Shaped Herb. Physically, she should be around the same level as T’Challa.
Still, Daniel felt she was probably weaker than him, as the Black Panther lineage had spent generations mastering the abilities granted by the Heart-Shaped Herb.
They had countless years of experience, countless warriors, so their understanding of those powers had long since become instinct, so in that regards Carol didn’t have much advantage.
’At least she probably isn’t getting pushed around out there.’
Daniel couldn’t help wondering what those aliens who took Carol away had been thinking. According to the Ancient One, Carol would do very well in space.
’Maybe those aliens actually trained her?’
Daniel tried imagining it.
Carol?
That lovable idiot?
Thriving in the vast universe?
The image felt strange, then another thought appeared.
’No way she’ll come back stronger than me, right?’
Daniel almost laughed, it was impossible. Maybe she’d become the commander of some giant space fleet or something, that sounded more believable.
Daniel’s train of thought was interrupted because T’Challa’s situation had suddenly taken a turn for the worse.
A very bad turn, as the fun had ended, now he was getting bombarded from every direction. Missiles, shells, machine-gun fire, everything.
Hydra wasn’t incompetent, at the beginning, they had underestimated T’Challa’s abilities and paid dearly for it. Their casualties had been horrific, but after adapting, they changed tactics.
Instead of trying to fight him directly, they retreated while maintaining suppressive fire. Once they reached prepared defensive positions, ordinary firearms disappeared.
Heavy artillery took their place. Several armed helicopters circled overhead, raining machine-gun fire from above.
The worst part was that T’Challa couldn’t escape, as massive searchlights followed him everywhere he went, and no matter how fast he moved, the beams remained locked onto him.
"Daniel! Help!"
T’Challa yelled while desperately dodging another explosion.
"I’m losing!"
Another missile exploded nearby, as snow and dirt flew everywhere.
"Daniel!"
"Hurry up!"
A second later...
"I’m done for!"
"I’m seriously injured!"
"I’m critically wounded!"
"Come save me!"
His voice echoed across the battlefield.
Inside the aircraft, Daniel leisurely took a sip of alcohol, he wasn’t remotely concerned. He could see T’Challa perfectly, the guy wasn’t injured at all, at worst, he was just getting tired.
"T’Challa."
Daniel smirked.
"You’re getting weak."
"Yep."
T’Challa immediately agreed.
"I am weak."
"...Extremely weak."
"Now stop talking and come help me!" He had completely surrendered, so there was no shame left.
T’Challa was exhausted. The entire battle consisted of him being chased around while getting shelled, he barely had opportunities to counterattack.
What kind of fight was that?
Crushing your enemies was fun, but getting crushed was miserable.
Daniel finally decided he’d tormented T’Challa enough. It was already well past midnight. The sooner they finished, the sooner they could go home and sleep.
Setting his drink down, Daniel stepped outside, then he flew into the sky.
Two-armed helicopters immediately turned toward him. Daniel reached out, his one hand grabbed one helicopter and the other hand grabbed another, then he pulled.
Boom!
The two aircraft collided head-on, a massive fireball erupted in the night sky. The remaining helicopters didn’t fare any better. One after another, explosions erupted everywhere and in less than ten seconds, every helicopter was gone.
Honestly, Daniel could have handled them much more easily. A single burst of heat vision would have been enough. One glance, just one beam and they would be done for. But his hands were itching, and he wanted to actually move around a little.
The problem was that nobody could fight him, not even a single person, so his life was becoming very boring, except for the Ancient One and Daniel refused to count her, as that woman clearly cheated.
The last time they’d fought, she’d caught him off guard and sent his consciousness on a surprise tour across multiple dimensions, that experience had been miserable.
Daniel hated fighting like that. They were all tricks, with no real punches.
’Fight me head-on if you’re so tough.’
Daniel firmly believed he could stand still and let the Ancient One punch him for an entire hour. Then he’d throw a single punch in return, just one and it would be enough.
Honestly, Daniel was starting to wish time would move faster, he wanted to reach the twenty-first century already, then the big green guy would show up and the hammer-wielding one.
Those two sounded fun, especially Hulk. He was big, durable, kind of impossible to break, so he was a perfect partner for sparring. Right now, whenever Daniel wanted to exercise, he usually ended up flying into space and punching meteors, but that also got old after a while.
’I really hope someone shows up who can throw asteroids around with me, as doing it alone is so boring.’
After finishing off the helicopters, Daniel grabbed a massive steel pillar from somewhere on the island, then he started swinging it.
Boom!
Boom!
Every swing flattened entire groups of Hydra soldiers. While doing it, he couldn’t help muttering.
"Forgive me."
The scene was horrifying, as anyone hit by the pillar ceased to resemble a human being, they became red paste.
Blood, mud, broken armor, everything mixed together until it was impossible to tell where one thing ended and another began, not even bones remained.
Daniel continued his work, and the entire island became his construction site, or rather.... his demolition site.
Originally, the terrain had been uneven. Buildings stood everywhere, roads crossed the island, defensive positions dotted the landscape.
Now? Everything was flat.
The steel pillar eventually shattered from overuse. Daniel replaced it, then replaced it again, eventually, he was swinging around an enormous boulder instead. When he finally stopped, the island had gone silent. T’Challa cautiously approached him.
"Is it over?"
His voice sounded strange, a little shaken, before today, he had only understood Daniel’s power in theory. Now he had actually seen it and honestly, it was terrifying.
How much time had passed? One minute? Two?
The island was unrecognizable. When they arrived here earlier, there had been countless buildings like military installations, barracks, hangars, fortifications, and now there was nothing... nothing at all.
The entire scene reminded T’Challa of someone stomping on an anthill, just a few small movements and everything disappeared.
"Not yet." Daniel looked down. "There are still plenty hiding underground."
T’Challa blinked.
"So..."
He pointed downward.
"We go down there and finish them?"
Daniel shook his head.
"No need."
Then he said something that made T’Challa’s eyelids twitch.
"We’ll just sink the island, then we won’t even have to clean up afterward."
"You should probably head back to the aircraft."
"Okay."
For once, T’Challa didn’t argue. The island’s current condition was indescribable and the smell here alone was enough to make people sick. Blood, smoke, burned metal, death all could be felt in the air, and he had no desire to stay any longer.
After T’Challa left, Daniel stood alone, and looking at the devastation around him, he sighed quietly.
’Sorry.’
’Try to pay more attention in your next life.’
For the first time that night, he felt uncomfortable. These weren’t numbers, they were people, thousands of them, yet Daniel didn’t regret it.
Any threat to his friends and family had to be eliminated. Otherwise, one day he would regret showing mercy and that regret would be far worse.
Suddenly, a voice echoed from beneath the island.
"We can negotiate!"
Someone underground was shouting.
"We still have nuclear weapons!"
"So, let’s stop here!"
"Neither side needs to continue this!"
Fear had finally set in and the people hiding below understood exactly what kind of monster they were dealing with. Daniel looked down, then smiled slightly.
"Maybe in next life."
The moment he finished speaking, he stomped the ground.
BOOM!
A thunderous explosion erupted and a massive crack spread outward from beneath Daniel’s feet. At first, it was only a few meters long, then it expanded and expanded and expanded.
Soon, enormous fractures covered the entire island. Ocean water rushed inward and deep underground, hidden facilities began exploding one after another.
Explosions, screams, collapsing structures, the sounds blended together into a symphony of destruction, and for the people trapped below, it was the apocalypse.
Daniel simply ignored the noise and again stomped the ground.
BOOM!
BOOM!
The island split apart completely, and huge sections began sinking into the ocean.
Daniel frowned, as this process was still too slow, so he dove into the water, then kicked several times from below.
And the effect was immediate, as the island’s collapse accelerated dramatically, bit by bit, meter by meter.
The ocean swallowed everything buildings, weapons, secrets, soldiers, commanders nothing was left intact. The entire Hydra faction disappeared beneath the waves.
