Chapter 27: Chapter 27: Because I’m Superman

"For the future of Wakanda."

The moment Daniel finished speaking, the entire hall fell silent for several seconds.

Then, scattered laughter began to spread through the room.

The people of Wakanda were, in truth, extremely confident.

With Vibranium in their hands, they possessed technology built around the rare metal, technology that surpassed the outside world by at least two or three decades on the surface.

Though they had isolated themselves from the rest of the world, that didn’t mean they were ignorant of it.

In their minds, Wakanda was the greatest nation on Earth, a paradise untouched by conflict, prosperous, peaceful, and filled with happy citizens.

Of course, that was only how the people sitting inside this hall saw things.

Wakanda had originally been formed from five tribes.

But after so many years, the gap between them had become impossible to ignore.

Some tribes lived in the heart of the nation, enjoying all the benefits and luxury that Vibranium had brought.

Others were stationed along the borders, living lives that were poor, primitive, and barely different from those of centuries past.

Why had the United Nations classified Wakanda as a nation in need of aid year after year?

Because the people living on the outskirts were struggling far more than outsiders realized.

Yet King T’Chaka not only ignored those problems, he had repeatedly rejected international assistance.

Resentment had been building beneath the surface for years.

Otherwise, how could there eventually be someone like Erik Killmonger, the man who would become Black Panther’s greatest enemy more than twenty years later?

Wakanda’s social structure was deeply flawed.

If the ruling class at the top hadn’t possessed overwhelming power, making resistance nearly impossible, the entire system might have collapsed long ago.

The women of the Dora Milaje couldn’t help laughing.

Even the old king made no effort to stop them.

After all, if you were a king and some complete stranger suddenly appeared before you and said, "I’m worried about the future of your country," while your nation was thriving and powerful, how would you react?

T’Chaka was already feeling annoyed.

’Where did this guy come from? He opens his mouth and immediately starts trying to scare me?’

If Daniel hadn’t displayed abilities that seemed genuinely extraordinary, the king would have thrown him out already.

Meet him?

Did he really think anyone could casually request an audience with the King of Wakanda?

The only reason he was standing here now was because he had nearly smashed the energy shield outside out of shape with his bare fists.

That alone was already beyond anything the Black Panther could accomplish.

And on top of that, he had flown here himself.

Since when could humans fly?

King T’Chaka was seriously beginning to wonder whether the man standing before him was even from Earth.

Daniel, however, paid no attention to the laughter around him.

Words alone carried little weight.

Even he knew his opening statement sounded ridiculous.

A reaction like this was perfectly understandable.

"So," Daniel asked calmly, looking at the king, "what is your opinion of Wakanda’s current situation?"

Because Daniel was clearly no ordinary man, T’Chaka answered with remarkable patience.

"Wakanda is doing very well," the king said.

"Better than at any point in our history. Our nation is peaceful. Our people have abundant resources. They are healthy, prosperous, and happy."

These were achievements accomplished during his reign.

Naturally, there was a trace of pride in his voice.

"Really?" Daniel replied. "I don’t agree."

The direct contradiction immediately drew attention.

"On my way here, I saw the undercurrents already stirring beneath Wakanda’s prosperity. I heard complaints. I heard curses."

"You live modern lives in beautiful Birnin Zana, surrounded by advanced technology."

"But some of your people still seem to be living in the agricultural age."

"Nonsense!"

Before T’Chaka could speak, members of the Dora Milaje were already snapping back.

"What could you possibly know?"

"You’ve only just arrived in Wakanda!"

Another warrior scoffed.

"I think you’re just trying to attract attention."

"Is that so?" Daniel replied unhurriedly.

"I happen to possess a few useful abilities. My vision and hearing are quite exceptional."

"For example, more than three hundred miles from here, I can hear people discussing plans to smuggle Vibranium out of the country with help from outsiders."

"And on the African plains, I can see a heavily armed mercenary force moving in this direction."

"Their destination appears to be Wakanda."

Daniel smiled slightly.

"Wakanda doesn’t seem nearly as peaceful as it looks on the surface."

The hall grew quieter.

Then someone burst out laughing.

"Before you say something like that, maybe think about it first."

"Who could possibly see and hear things hundreds of miles away?"

"There is someone," Daniel replied seriously.

"It’s me."

The instant those words left his mouth, the entire hall erupted into laughter.

This guy had to be delusional.

Nobody in the room believed him.

Nobody except Carol.

"It seems none of you believe me?"

Of course they didn’t.

Who did he think he was?

A god?

Daniel chuckled.

"Let’s see... your aircraft hangar is hidden beneath the waterfall behind this palace. That’s a pretty good hiding spot."

"And the Vibranium mine about ten miles away is enormous. It’s nowhere near as scarce as the outside world believes."

As soon as those words were spoken, the expressions of T’Chaka and the warriors around him changed dramatically.

Those were state secrets.

How did he know?

The king stared at him.

"Where did you hear that information?"

"I saw it just now."

Daniel’s expression remained completely calm.

There wasn’t the slightest sign that he was lying.

T’Chaka frowned.

"That’s impossible."

He shook his head.

"No normal man can do such things."

"I can do it... because.... I’m Superman."

As he spoke, Daniel slowly rose off the ground and hovered in midair, looking directly at the king.

The surrounding Dora Milaje immediately reacted.

Weapons were raised.

Dozens of vibranium spears pointed towards him in an instant.

’Too bad I don’t have a cape.’

Daniel couldn’t help thinking.

’That would’ve looked a lot cooler.’

T’Chaka took a deep breath and steadied himself.

"Very well."

"I believe you."

His eyes remained fixed on Daniel.

"But what does any of this have to do with Wakanda’s future?"

"These are merely small problems. Wakanda has more than enough power to handle them."

The confidence in his voice never wavered.

"Yes," Daniel admitted. "Wakanda certainly has the strength to solve those problems."

"But they’re only warning signs."

"As time passes, Wakanda won’t be able to remain isolated forever."

"You may wish to stay hidden from the world, but Vibranium won’t."

"For some people, the temptation it represents is simply too great."

"In the years ahead, more and more eyes will turn toward Wakanda."

Daniel paused before continuing.

"Wakanda cannot remain separated from the world forever."

"Sooner or later, you’ll have to engage with the outside world."

"People may not know about you today."

"But one day, countless nations, organizations, and individuals will focus their attention on this place."

"We know that already," T’Chaka replied.

"And we’ve been preparing for future contact with the outside world."

"It’s not enough."

Daniel shook his head immediately.

"Not nearly enough."

The king narrowed his eyes.

"Then what do you think would be enough?"

Daniel flashed a bright grin.

"Add me."

"What?"

"Add me, and it will be enough."

"Add you?"

"That’s right."

"And why should that make any difference?"

"Because I’m Superman."

Daniel spread his hands.

"I have the power."

One of the warriors couldn’t help speaking up.

"You’re only one man. No matter how powerful you are, how strong can you possibly be?"

Daniel’s smile widened.

"Strong enough for one man to stand against the entire world."

The hall exploded with laughter again.

"That’s impossible!"

Even T’Chaka laughed openly this time.

"I admit that you possess abilities beyond ordinary people."

"But the combined power of the world is far more complicated than you seem to think."

Looking at Daniel floating calmly in the air, the king continued,

"What reason do I have to believe that you can fight against the entire world?"

"Because you can fly?"

"Or because you claim to have extraordinary vision and hearing?"

Daniel met his gaze without hesitation.

"I can prove it."
