Chapter 158: Chapter 158: Meeting Thor

Daniel flew high into the sky, surveying the planet below.

The entire planet seemed to be engulfed in fire. Heat and flames were everywhere, with rivers of magma bubbling and churning beneath a sky that burned crimson from horizon to horizon. The only exception was the small patch of land where Daniel had appeared.

What surprised him most was that the planet was inhabited.

Somehow, life and even civilization had managed to survive in an environment this hostile. The universe really was full of wonders.

Looking around, Daniel noticed flashes of light in the distance; a battle was raging thousands of miles away.

Looks like this place isn’t exactly peaceful, he thought. Then again, with an environment like this, who could blame them?

He glanced down at the spot where he had landed, but the spatial jump lane had long since vanished. With a quiet chuckle, he turned toward the distant battle and flew off.

First, he needed to figure out where he was so he could find his way back to Earth. The planet was certainly unusual, but it wasn’t interesting enough to keep him around for long.

Going by Earth time, Christmas was right around the corner. The year 2000 was coming to an end, and a new year was about to begin. If Daniel didn’t make it home in time for Christmas, he was going to have a lot of explaining to do.

He was already away from home more often than he should have been. If he missed Christmas on top of that, let alone his parents, even Susan probably wouldn’t give him the time of day.

Daniel had always seen Christmas as a time for family, warmth, and togetherness. To him, that was what the holiday was really about.

Over the past five years, he hadn’t missed a single Christmas, and neither had Carol.

Thinking of his family and friends, Daniel subtly picked up his speed, and a few moments later, he arrived at the battlefield.

With a single glance, Daniel grinned.

He recognized someone down there.

Well, technically, the other guy didn’t know him, but Daniel was confident that wouldn’t be a problem. With his natural aura, making friends had never exactly been difficult for him.

As everybody knew, Daniel Danvers was famous across the universe for his incredible popularity, and he had friends in every corner of the universe.

The guy fighting below was no ordinary person, either. His family was extremely wealthy, but what stood out even more was his generous nature. He seemed like exactly the kind of person Daniel would get along with.

Once they became friends, they’d be brothers. And since they were brothers, shouldn’t what’s yours belong to me too? As for what’s mine... well, that’s still mine. They were brothers, after all, so there was no need to get hung up on the little details.

Right?

Daniel looked down with a smile as the fighting below reached its peak.

The big guy swinging a hammer down there, along with his comrades, were all powerful fighters, taking on multiple foes at once. However, there were simply too many enemies for them to end the battle anytime soon.

After waiting a few minutes and seeing the clash drag on, Daniel couldn’t help calling out, "Hey, need a hand?"

A voice suddenly rang out from above, and the fighters forced back their opponents and looked up toward the source.

"Whoa... Thor, he can fly without a hammer!" A heavily armored man carrying a broadsword exclaimed.

Thor, holding his hammer, glanced at him and muttered, "Mine is Mjolnir."

He couldn’t help feeling a little annoyed. Thor had always thought flying by swinging Mjolnir around was pretty impressive, but watching someone simply float through the air without any assistance made his own method suddenly seem a lot less special.

"Who are you?" Thor asked.

"I was just passing by, when I saw you guys having a rough time, so I thought I’d ask if you want some help," Daniel said with a smile.

"There is no need for that," Thor said proudly. "I am Thor, God of Thunder and the greatest warrior of the Nine Realms. I can handle this."

"I know you can, but it’ll probably take you a while. If you let me help, we can finish this a lot faster," Daniel said, landing directly in front of Thor.

The sudden movement immediately put Thor and his companions on guard.

A complete stranger had just dropped out of the sky in the middle of their battle, and there was no way to tell whether he was friend or enemy. Judging by the strength he’d displayed so far, he was clearly no ordinary fighter. So, every one of them stared at Daniel with solemn expressions.

"Just relax," Daniel said, casually firing an energy beam from his fingertip to obliterate a wave of soldiers charging from behind them.

This move caught Thor and his allies completely off guard, causing them to step back two paces and stare at Daniel, terrified he might fire one of those at them too.

Seeing the vast clearing that had suddenly opened up across from them was enough to tell them how absurdly powerful that beam was.

"I really just want to help. You guys are Asgardians, right? I’ve heard of you. Thor, God of Thunder, you’re pretty famous," Daniel spoke with a warm, friendly smile.

Thor and the others exchanged glances before finally nodding.

"Then you have our thanks," Thor said.

Although he didn’t know Daniel’s motives, Thor was naturally a straightforward, carefree guy. Just looking at his massive build was enough to tell that all his brain’s nutrients had gone straight to his muscles.

There were simply too many enemies on the opposite side, making it a hassle to clear them out. He had snuck out in secret this time, something Thor did quite often because he couldn’t sit still and loved combat.

Since the Nine Realms were currently at peace, he had grown bored and brought along his friends to this realm just to get some exercise.

He hadn’t expected so many enemies to show up this time. If the fight dragged on, he’d be late getting back, and if his father found out, it would mean another endless lecture.

So, when Daniel offered to help him, Thor readily accepted the offer, figuring it would let them wrap up early. What Thor didn’t realize was that his father already knew exactly where he was and what he was doing.

The lava warriors on the opposite side rushed forward once more, and Thor and his team took their stances, preparing for battle.

Seeing Daniel still smiling as if he wanted to keep chatting, Thor was about to call out a warning. Since Daniel had come down to help and clearly bore no ill intent, plus his strength seemed decent, Thor didn’t want him to end up dead right out of the gate.

"Look out!"

Before the word could fully leave his mouth, Thor and his comrades’ eyes nearly popped out of their sockets.

Daniel had his back turned to the lava warriors. He simply released a flash of light from his palm, and by the time Thor and the others could open their eyes again, the land across from them was completely barren. Where were any lava warriors to be found?

While they were still frozen in surprise, Daniel called out, immediately drawing the attention of Thor and the rest of his group.

"Alright, all done," Daniel said with a smile.

"This..." A storm surged within Thor’s chest.

For a warrior as proud and battle hungry as Thor, the sight was almost impossible to process. Even he couldn’t wipe out an entire army of lava warriors with such ridiculous ease. Yet Daniel had done it without breaking a sweat.

"Thor, looks like someone’s about to take your title as the greatest warrior," the sword wielding warrior chimed in.

Hearing those words left a bad taste in Thor’s mouth. Of course he knew that. But did he really have to say it out loud? Thor had just been boasting about being the strongest, only to get humbled moments later.

Sheathing his hammer, Thor shot the swordsman an annoyed look.

"I said in the Nine Realms. This guy clearly came from somewhere beyond our universe. Besides, I’m still young, only a few thousand years old. Give me a few more millennia, and I’ll be able to do that too."

Seriously, who was this guy trying to impress? After trading a few more jokes, Thor broke into hearty laughter and turned to Daniel.

"Thanks for your help. By the way, where did you hear my name? I didn’t realize my reputation had traveled all the way across the cosmos."

Thor was still annoyed at being called out by his own comrades, and he was determined to prove himself.
