Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman
Chapter 154: Brutal Training
Chapter 154: Chapter 154: Brutal Training
The next day.
For the sake of ten million units, Daniel sold out his pride and dragged Quill and Valkyrie along to keep the appointment. During the meal, the Grandmaster dropped subtle hints that he wanted Daniel to stay at his arena a bit longer, offering to pay him handsomely for it, but Daniel turned him down.
By now, Daniel was getting tired of playing around. Though there were still plenty of places he hadn’t visited, he was exhausted, mentally exhausted. Reflecting on his actions over the past few years, Daniel felt somewhat uneasy and just wanted to head back to Earth to rest.
Since Daniel declined, the Grandmaster didn’t push the matter any further. The previous night, he had dug up Daniel’s background information and didn’t dare act recklessly. Even though his heartbeat wildly for Daniel, he didn’t dare make a single move, settling instead for watching Daniel leave with a burning, intense gaze.
’What a pity...’ the Grandmaster sighed inwardly.
"Did you remember what he looks like? I want a statue of him erected right in the center of the high tower. He is, without a shadow of a doubt, the strongest warrior in history. There was no one stronger before him, and there won’t be anyone stronger in the future."
The Grandmaster spoke to the woman beside him. Since he was speaking about serious business now, she refrained from mouthing off and simply nodded in silence.
Besides, she genuinely admired Daniel as well. It was just a shame he was so ridiculously powerful; otherwise, she would have dragged him off to her room last night.
...
"Let’s go to Veylora."
Quill had already received his share of the cut, 200 million. That was enough to party with Lyra for ten whole days, so utterly thrilled, he couldn’t wait to suggest it to Daniel.
Daniel glanced at him sideways and smiled. "Sure, but I have one condition."
"What condition?" Quill asked.
"Fight her for ten minutes and hold your ground." Daniel pointed directly at Valkyrie.
Valkyrie gave Quill a fierce, battle-ready grin.
"What? H-how am I supposed to do that?" Quill cried. "She’s ridiculously strong!"
"I don’t care how you manage it. Just keep fighting and stay conscious for ten minutes. If you can do that, you’re fine. Otherwise, forget about Veylora," Daniel said with a smile.
Now that they were about to part ways, Daniel couldn’t help but feel a little worried about Quill. Given Quill’s current strength, the moment he was left on his own, he’d likely get captured in no time.
Daniel wanted to train Quill, but his own strength had come to him so effortlessly that he had no idea how to teach someone else. He lacked any real understanding of structured training or martial arts techniques. Even when Daniel fought, his style was largely instinctive and improvised, relying on overwhelming power rather than any formal combat discipline.
After all, no one was stronger, faster, sharper, or more durable than him. Learning combat techniques was entirely optional for him, no matter how flashy your moves were, try taking a single punch from him first.
So, in the end, Daniel turned to Valkyrie.
Valkyrie came from Asgard and was a legendary warrior with exceptional combat skills, making her perfect to train Quill. What’s more, she already disliked Quill, so she would definitely give him "extra special care."
Daniel didn’t ask for much, as long as Quill stayed alive, anything went. Besides, interstellar medicine was pretty advanced; severed arms and legs were no big deal. Even if a whole hand got blown off, it didn’t matter, just attach a cybernetic prosthetic, which worked even better than the original anyway.
In fact, Daniel felt Quill’s lower half was already on its last legs and practically needed a mechanical "prosthetic" of its own.
"I’ll try not to go too hard," Valkyrie said with a laugh, rolling her shoulders and flexing her fingers as her joints cracked one after another.
"Wait, why are you suddenly making me fight her for ten minutes?"vQuill asked incoherently. He knew Valkyrie held zero goodwill toward him, and now that she had a valid reason to beat him up, she certainly wouldn’t go easy on him.
"You’re way too weak, so you need this special training," Daniel replied.
"I have you around, don’t I?" Quill blurted out to Daniel.
"We can’t stay together forever. Sooner or later, we’ll go our separate ways. What are you going to do then?" Daniel countered.
"Fine..." Quill fell silent for a moment. Dropping his usual goofy grin, he nodded solemnly.
.......
"AAAAAAAH."
Quill was running through piles of trash in tattered clothes, with only one shoe left on his feet.
"I’m done training! I quit!" He screamed at the top of his lungs.
Behind him, Valkyrie followed leisurely with a bottle of alcohol in her hand.
"Run faster, or you’re gonna get caught."
As she spoke, she fired a few shots right at Quill’s feet, which made him run even faster.
This woman was absolutely serious. The moment he slowed down, even for an instant, he’d be taking a bullet. The last time they fought, she had blasted a hole clean through his left leg. The very next day, after it had finally healed, she put another one through his right.
He couldn’t even fake an injury, as Daniel was dead serious this time, and no amount of begging from Quill worked. This was already the third day, and they were still on Sakaar, except they were deep in the junk heaps, giving Quill his special training.
These past three days felt like absolute hell to Quill.
As if the daily beatings weren’t enough, Quill wasn’t even provided with food. He was left to fend for himself among the trash heaps, scavenging for scraps and competing with other scavengers for whatever he could find. Then, three times a day: morning, noon, and night, Valkyrie put him through another brutal beating.
After just three days, Quill felt as though he had lost nearly ten pounds. What pissed him off the most was that Daniel spent all day lounging inside the ship eating and drinking good stuff, happily watching him get tormented.
Quill’s heart was broken and bleeding. He regretted everything so much that he couldn’t stop slapping himself. Why on earth did he agree to special training in the first place?
Look at the miserable state he was in now. Starving, malnourished, and living on borrowed time every single day.
Even though Quill knew he couldn’t actually die, that didn’t make getting hurt any less painful.
The previous night, he had been fast asleep when a wave of intense heat suddenly jolted him awake. As he opened his eyes, he found a group of drooling scavengers gathered around him, staring hungrily.
A sharp, agonizing pain shot through his leg. Looking down, Quill realized it was bleeding badly, someone had actually bitten into it.
Then he noticed the worst part: he had been tied securely to a roasting spit.
’They were going to eat me?’
Quill nearly wet his pants on the spot.
Getting dragged out of a peaceful sleep like that gave him psychological trauma beyond measure. Even after Daniel rescued him, he remained in a dazed, traumatized stupor until finally snapping out of it this morning.
"Daniel, can we stop training? I really can’t take it anymore," Quill yelled up toward Daniel in the sky while running for his life.
"No," Daniel shook his head.
He then shot a heat beam right next to Quill’s feet. "Keep training, last ten minutes and I’ll let you go."
"But I really can’t go on." Quill shrieked. He dragged his heavy body through the trash heaps, huffing and puffing, yet his feet didn’t slow down for a second as he darted nimbly between the piles of junk.
"Hang in there." Daniel encouraged.
"AAAAAH! I can’t do this anymore!" Quill finally gave up on dodging. He threw himself face-first into a pile of trash and lay there without moving.
Valkyrie fired several shots into the ground near his feet.
"Just shoot me! Go ahead and kill me, I’m not running anymore!" Quill gasped, barely catching his breath.
Valkyrie fired a few more rounds, deliberately keeping her aim just wide enough to avoid hitting him. Eventually, she lowered her weapon and looked up at Daniel with an exasperated expression.
Daniel descended from the sky and looked down at Quill.
"Do you like Lyra?"
Quill’s eyes immediately lit up. He nodded enthusiastically.
"Do you want to stay by Lyra’s side?" Daniel asked.
Quill nodded again without hesitation.
"Then prove you’re serious. Hold your own against Valkyrie for ten minutes, and I’ll let you meet Lyra again. If you really want to see her, this is your chance to prove you’re ready."
"For real?" Quill asked.
"For real," Daniel nodded.
"Let’s go again," Quill sprang to his feet and took off at lightning speed, showing not the slightest trace of the exhaustion he had displayed just moments ago.
"This guy..." Daniel laughed and turned toward Valkyrie.
"Thanks for taking the time to train him. I appreciate it."
"No problem. You paid for the training, so you can consider it handled." Valkyrie nodded to Daniel before taking off after Quill.
Daniel had gone to considerable lengths to arrange Quill’s training, even paying Valkyrie a five million unit fee for the job. There was just one small detail he hadn’t told Quill yet; the money was coming out of Quill’s own pocket.
As he watched the two figures gradually disappear into the distance, Daniel hovered in the air and followed after them.
