Marvel: Reincarnated as Superman
Chapter 151: Games Begin
Chapter 151: Chapter 151: Games Begin
After staying on Sakaar for nearly half a month, Fight Night had finally arrived.
Early that morning, the entire planet of Sakaar was already buzzing with excitement. Crowds poured toward the arena from every direction, eager to see the grand battles that would begin that evening.
Who would be the last one standing? Would it be Ares, the God of War? Bi-Beast? Beta Ray Bill? Or perhaps the reigning champion, Man-Thing?
Everyone had their own opinion, and arguments broke out everywhere. Some aliens even resorted to their fists when words failed to settle the matter.
Sakaar was a garbage planet to begin with, home to a chaotic mixture of creatures from every corner of the universe. Aside from their fear of the Grandmaster, there was only one rule that truly mattered here: survival of the fittest. The strong ruled, and the weak became prey.
The arena didn’t sell tickets. Instead, free passes were placed outside for anyone strong enough to fight their way through the crowd and snatch one.
Normally, the competition wouldn’t have been all that fierce. But today was different.
It was Fight Night, also known as the Champions’ Night.
The residents of Sakaar had been waiting for this day for years, and now that it had finally arrived, they were willing to beat each other bloody just for a chance to get inside. Before long, the area outside the arena had erupted into a massive free for all.
"Get out of the way!"
"Fuck off!"
"You want to die?"
Shouts, curses, and the sounds of brutal fights filled the open air as the entire space outside the arena descended into chaos.
"I love this opening."
The Grandmaster stood beside a floor-to-ceiling window, gazing down at the chaotic brawl below, his voice practically dripping with ecstasy. His entire body trembled with excitement.
"More intense, make it even more intense. This is the exact feeling I want. Oh, it’s absolutely intoxicating. How perfect would it be if every day were like this?"
"Impossible." The woman standing beside the Grandmaster spoke up flatly. "We don’t have that many fighters."
"I know." The Grandmaster threw a disgusted look at the women beside him. "Can’t I daydream for a second?"
"Keep dreaming."
Black lines immediately covered the Grandmaster’s face.
......
"There are surely a lot of people here today." Quill said, looking out over the densely packed crowd.
The three of them were still on the outer perimeter, so Quill couldn’t see the blood bath taking place farther in.
"Where do we buy tickets? I’m in a good mood today, so I’m treating you guys to the show." Quill asked Valkyrie.
Quill turned to Valkyrie, clutching the betting ticket in his hand with a grin. He felt fantastic, no he felt better than ever.
Valkyrie glanced sideways at him.
"You? You’d get beaten to a pulp out there. Just let me bring you two inside. I’ll show you what a true VIP entrance looks like."
With that, Valkyrie boarded her ship with the two of them and flew straight into one of the arena’s massive ventilation ducts.
Since it was Fight Night, even she couldn’t do much, and none of the arena’s official back doors were open. However, Valkyrie had left a back door for herself.
Fortunately, the opening she chose was large enough and her vessel was compact enough, allowing the three of them to slip smoothly into the interior of the arena.
Hovering in the air, Quill looked down at the utter chaos outside and swallowed hard.
"Still want to go buy tickets? I don’t mind dropping you off outside," Valkyrie said.
"Oh, that’s way too much trouble. No, no, that won’t be necessary."
Quill shook his head fast. Was she joking? It was so chaotic out there that a guy could lose his life in an instant.
He was about to become a rich man, so why risk it now.
Besides, Quill had just watched someone die a truly gruesome death down there. The poor bastard had been reduced into a mangled pile of meat with a single punch. It was far too bloody for a guy like him.
After the wild scramble for the passes, a trail of corpses had been left behind. Blood of every color, red, green, blue, and purple, had mixed together across the ground, yet nobody paid the slightest attention to it.
...
"Is it my turn to make an entrance?" the Grandmaster asked, pointing a finger at himself as he turned to the woman.
Without saying a word, she handed him a microphone-like device.
The Grandmaster took it and stepped out into the open, while his enormous projection appeared above the arena floor.
"Everyone, please give me your warmest applause!"
He swept his gaze across the audience and shouted into the microphone.
The atmosphere in the arena exploded instantly. The crowd showed the Grandmaster an incredible amount of respect as thunderous applause and deafening cheers echoed for miles.
"Whoa..." The Grandmaster sighed in admiration and raised a hand, signaling for everyone to quiet down.
The entire arena fell silent almost immediately.
"I know you’ve all been looking forward to this day, and so have I.
I am your old friend and your host for tonight. Fight Night is about to begin! Is everyone trembling with excitement yet?"
"Who will claim tonight’s championship? Let us wait and see."
"First, please allow me to introduce tonight’s very first contestant."
"Cyclops!"
The moment the Grandmaster finished speaking, the arena erupted once again.
"Cyclops? Who the hell is that?"
"I have never heard of him."
"Which rock did he crawl out from under?"
"Silence!"
The Grandmaster quickly restored order. Once the arena quieted down, he continued, "I have no idea where this guy came from either, but let’s give him a round of applause and show some encouragement for his fearless courage!"
The Grandmaster was the first to clap, and everyone immediately burst into laughter before following his lead, applauding sarcastically.
......
"You’re up."
Deep beneath the arena, a handler pushed Daniel forward.
Daniel didn’t bother arguing with him. He was just standing there lost in thought. ’What kind of terrible nickname did Quill come up with?
Cyclops? That is so lame. Couldn’t he think of something that actually sounds cool? They’ve got a God of War out there, so why couldn’t he give me a cool nickname?
Daniel grumbled internally, deciding then and there to fine Quill five million units as soon as he got out of here. He had wagered ten million anyway and was bound to make a fortune, so five million was small change. Who told Quill to give him such a bad nickname?
Daniel slowly walked into the arena as bright spotlights focused directly on him. He raised his hands high and waved towards the spectator stands.
"Booo!"
"Go back and suck your mama’s milk."
"I bet you won’t last three seconds."
Daniel completely tuned out the taunts and boos coming from the crowd.
Up inside the ship, Valkyrie stared at Quill in absolute disbelief.
"Why is he out there?" she demanded.
"Maybe he just felt like having some fun." Quill said with a grin.
"You definitely pulled something behind my back." Valkyrie grabbed Quill tightly by the collar. "Why didn’t you tell me?"
Her eyes were practically bloodshot. Valkyrie knew better than anyone just how terrifying Daniel’s strength was. The moment he stepped into the ring, the chances of the other four fighters surviving dropped to zero.
So, her money was going straight down the drain. She’d even used her trusty dagger as collateral to get those five million units. How was she supposed to afford drinks in the future?
"You didn’t ask," Quill replied casually.
Looking at Quill’s smug face, Valkyrie had to summon every ounce of self-control she had to keep from smashing it to pieces.
"Just you wait."
After leaving him with that harsh warning, Valkyrie immediately pulled out a communicator and called her contact.
There was still time, so she could still cut her losses.
.......
The Grandmaster introduced the contestants one by one, and soon, five figures stood in the center of the arena floor.
Cyclops; Ares, the God of War; Bi-Beast; Beta Ray Bill; and Man-Thing.
All five had amplifiers attached to their bodies.
Then, following the Grandmaster’s booming declaration, "Let the games begin!"
Daniel lazily stretched his arms, flashed a bright grin, and looked at the four warriors surrounding him.
"All of you, come at me together. I’m in a hurry."
His voice echoed clearly throughout the entire arena.
