Chapter 194: Chapter 194 — The Suspicious Stark

I remember...

There were a lot of different things related to death in Marvel.

Asgard had its own realms and ways of dealing with the dead. There was Valhalla, where some warriors could go after death. There was also Hel, along with other afterlife realms connected to different races and beings.

Then there was Soul World, which was connected to the Soul Stone. Jack had also heard about Hell Lords, demons, magical realms, and powerful beings who could interfere with souls and death.

And resurrection wasn’t completely impossible either.

There were people who had been brought back through magic, advanced technology, cosmic powers, mystical artifacts, or even their own abilities. Some beings could manipulate souls, while others could restore a person’s body or somehow return their consciousness.

But Jack didn’t actually understand how any of it worked.

If someone dies, where does their soul actually go?

Does everyone go to the same place? Or does it depend on their race, beliefs, powers, or the way they died?

Can a soul be brought back? Can a dead person’s body be restored? And if resurrection is possible, what is the actual price?

Jack became curious.

In the future, I need to investigate this properly.

The bad news had left both Jack and Gwen in a terrible mood, so Jack told Red Queen to return to school and continue attending classes as she had been doing before.

After that, Jack went back to his room and checked the System, since it had been upgrading since yesterday, ever since he got back to this era.

[Warning!]

[The maximum Heroic Point capacity of the current System has been reached.]

[System upgrade is required to process the excess Heroic Points.]

[System Upgrade in Progress...]

[Please wait, Host.]

Jack stared at the notification. He didn’t expect the System to still be upgrading. Just as he was thinking it might take more time, another notification appeared.

[System Upgrade Complete.]

[50,000 Heroic Points have been consumed to upgrade the System.]

[Remaining Heroic Points: 20,000+]

Jack raised an eyebrow. Fifty thousand?! For just an upgrade, that’s a ripoff.

Surprisingly, he wasn’t even angry. He wasn’t in the mood to argue with the System about losing 50,000 points.

"System, tell me your functions after the upgrade."

The System immediately responded.

[System Upgrade Complete.]

[The Host has already proven that he possesses the Heart of a Hero.]

[Therefore, the Host no longer needs to accumulate excessive Heroic Points to unlock new aliens.]

[A minimum of 2,000 Heroic Points is now required to perform an Alien Unlock.]

[Additional Heroic Points can be used to increase the probability of obtaining higher-quality Alien Templates.]

[The Host no longer needs to rely entirely on luck when attempting to obtain high-level Alien Templates.]

[Novice period has ended.]

[The Host is advised to use Heroic Points wisely.]

Jack stared at the notification for several seconds. "...Oh no." He slowly rubbed his forehead.

This upgrade seems to have more disadvantages than advantages. Getting a higher chance of obtaining powerful aliens by spending more points is definitely useful. But because of my time travel, I triggered the System upgrade much earlier than I probably should have.

Jack sighed. Before the upgrade, he had received several aliens that were extremely useful to him. Sometimes, it had almost felt like the System was giving him exactly what he needed. He had even suspected there was something more behind it, that the so-called Beginner’s Luck might have been responsible.

But now Beginner’s Luck is gone. From now on, the System will truly leave everything to probability.

Jack looked at his remaining Heroic Points.

[Heroic Points: 20,000+]

The System said 2,000 points are enough to perform an Alien Unlock. Spending additional points only increases the probability of obtaining a higher-quality alien. That doesn’t mean spending 2,000 points will give me a weak alien. I could still get an extremely powerful alien with the minimum amount. The probability is simply lower.

Jack thought about it for a moment. Then the best way to understand the upgraded System is to test it. He decided to start with the minimum amount.

"System, perform an Alien Unlock using 2,000 Heroic Points."

[2,000 Heroic Points consumed.]

[Alien Unlock in progress...]

Jack waited patiently. A few seconds later, the System displayed the result.

[Alien Template obtained.]

[Species: Florauna]

[Home Planet: Flors Verdance]

[Abilities: Plant Manipulation, Regeneration, Enhanced Strength, Elasticity, Camouflage, Thorn Projection]

Jack’s eyes widened as he read the information. Florauna... He immediately recognized the species. Wildvine. He hadn’t expected to get this alien at all.

"Not bad..." So the System really isn’t simply giving me aliens based on their power level. Even with only 2,000 points, I can still get something useful.

He decided to test it again, this time spending a little more.

"System, perform another Alien Unlock. Use 3,000 Heroic Points."

[3,000 Heroic Points consumed.]

[Alien Unlock in progress...]

A few moments later, another notification appeared.

[Alien Template obtained.]

[Species: Sonorosian]

[Home Planet: Sonorosia]

[Abilities: Sonic Scream, Sound Manipulation, Enhanced Hearing, Duplication, Enhanced Agility]

Jack raised an eyebrow. "Sonorosian?" He quickly read through the information. His expression slowly changed as he realized which species it was. Echo Echo. Jack couldn’t help but smile.

"Echo Echo. This species could be very useful."

Jack nodded to himself and decided to see what would happen if he used even more points.

"System, perform another Alien Unlock. Use 6,000 Heroic Points."

[6,000 Heroic Points consumed.]

[Alien Unlock in progress...]

Jack waited with curiosity. A few moments later, the System finally displayed the result.

[Alien Template obtained.]

[Species: Pyronite]

[Home Planet: Pyros]

[Abilities: Pyrokinesis, Fire Generation, Heat Absorption, Enhanced Strength, Enhanced Durability]

Jack stared at the information for several seconds. "Pyronite..." He quickly read through the details, and his eyes widened as he realized which alien it was. Heatblast. A grin slowly appeared on Jack’s face.

"Heatblast!"

"Hmm... only 9k+ Heroic Points remaining!"

On the way to experimenting and seeing how this works, I completely forgot to check the points! For now, let’s save them. Later, after I earn a few more, I can try using more than 10,000 and see what kind of alien I’ll get!

After some time, once his emotions had finally settled down, Jack looked through all the information about what had happened during the past fifteen days. Nothing major had happened, and nobody seemed to suspect them, mostly because Red Queen had perfectly disguised them and handled everything while they were gone.

From what Jack learned, after the last fight, Peter hadn’t been very active as Spider-Man. Instead, he had been taking care of Dr. Curt Connors, who was recovering from the trauma caused by his transformation into the Lizard. Peter had also contacted Gwen, asking to meet Omnix, but Red Queen had perfectly imitated Gwen and told him to wait since Omnix would contact him.

However, there was one thing that caught Jack’s attention.

Tony Stark.

Yes, Tony Stark.

Jack didn’t know what Tony had discovered, but apparently, Tony had been keeping an eye on him, something Red Queen had picked up on.

"Red, why is he after me? Did he find out that I’m the Omnix?" Jack asked, puzzled.

He couldn’t remember leaving behind any clues. Jack had always been extremely careful whenever he carried out a mission related to the Omnix and his identity as Jack Walker. He never allowed anyone to connect the two identities.

So why was Tony Stark suddenly watching him?
