MARVEL: BUYING GODHOOD
Chapter 57: Every Day
Third Person POV
When Chris opened his eyes, the first thing he felt was the tight embrace around him.
He looked down and found Gwen still asleep beside him, her face pressed against the right side of his chest while both of her arms were wrapped around him.
She looked completely peaceful, especially compared to how frightened and exhausted she had been yesterday.
Chris didn’t try to move her.
He simply raised one hand and gently patted her head.
At least she was safe.
He continued doing that for a while until Gwen slowly began to wake up.
Her eyes opened, and for several seconds she simply remained where she was before seeming to realize that she was still hugging him.
She slowly removed her arms and sat up.
“Good morning.”
“Good morning.” Chris looked at her.
“Did you sleep well?” Gwen smiled and replied, “Yeah. One of the best nights I’ve had.” Chris nodded.
That was good to hear.
“Okay. Freshen up. After breakfast, we’ll check how much your strength has increased and whether you developed any other powers.”
Gwen looked at him for a moment but didn’t move toward the bathroom.
Instead, she came closer and wrapped her arms around him again, making Chris freeze slightly.
“I like you,” Gwen said.
Chris remained silent, and Gwen tightened her arms around him.
“And I’m going to tell you every day until you say it back.”
Chris stared ahead, not knowing what he was supposed to say to that.
After a few seconds, Gwen finally released him and said, “Okay. Now let’s freshen up.” She took a few steps before stopping and looking back at him.
“Actually, we can wait for my checkup.”
Chris frowned.
“Why?” Gwen replied, “You have that meeting today, right?
It sounded important.” Chris immediately said, “It can wait.” Gwen looked down at her hands before slowly opening and closing them.
“I’m okay, Chris. I don’t feel sick or anything. And after calming down yesterday, I feel like I can control my strength better.” Chris watched her carefully, but Gwen smiled slightly.
“Do your meeting first. We can check everything afterward.”
Chris continued staring at her for a few seconds before finally nodding.
“Okay. Thank you.” Gwen immediately shook her head.
“I should be thanking you, not the other way around.
You don’t have to change all your plans because of me.” She hesitated before adding, “And…
sorry about last night.
For complaining about you leaving.”
This time Chris stood up and walked toward her.
“Gwen.” She looked at him, and he continued, “I’m not like you. There are things you care about that I probably never will. But don’t ever think that means you’re not important to me. No plan, meeting, or company is more important to me than you or Helen.”
A smile slowly appeared on Gwen’s face before she stepped closer.
Chris thought she was going to hug him again, but instead, Gwen quickly leaned forward and kissed him on the cheek.
Chris completely froze.
Gwen’s own face immediately turned red, but before he could say anything, she turned around and hurried into the bathroom.
The door closed behind her while Chris remained standing in the same place, his cheek still warm.
Nobody looking at him right now would believe that this was the same person who had killed an international weapons dealer just yesterday.
Chris POV
She kissed me.
I stared at the bathroom door as my heart almost skipped a beat.
If I wanted to, I could have dodged.
With my current speed, Gwen shouldn’t have been able to touch me if I didn’t want her to, but when she came closer, I just froze.
I couldn’t understand her anymore.
This was the same girl who used to turn red whenever I teased her.
Then last night she slept beside me while hugging me.
She confessed that she liked me, and this morning she confessed again and told me she was going to do it every day.
And now she kissed me.
I could see how red her face was afterward, so it wasn’t like she wasn’t embarrassed.
She just did it anyway.
I took a deep breath.
“Okay.” I needed to stop thinking about this.
I was staying close to her until she became stable.
Once she had complete control over her powers, I would explain everything properly.
That was all.
Although…
when she came close to me, she smelled really good.
I immediately shook my head.
“No.” I liked Helen.
Nothing else.
Gwen was a beautiful girl, so obviously I was going to react when a beautiful girl suddenly kissed me.
Everyone was attracted to beautiful people.
That was completely normal.
“Yes. Normal.”
With that settled, I left Gwen’s room and went to my own.
I showered, changed my clothes, and headed downstairs.
When I reached the hall, Gwen was already sitting on the sofa.
I looked at her, and she looked at me.
Neither of us said anything about what happened upstairs.
Good.
Before the silence could become uncomfortable, White entered the hall carrying several files.
“My Lord.” I nodded toward her.
“Morning.” White approached me and said, “I spoke with Obadiah Stane. He has agreed to the meeting at two this afternoon. Considering what happened with Lady Gwen, would you like me to change the date?”
I looked toward Gwen, but she immediately shook her head.
“No. Keep the meeting.” White nodded.
“Of course.” She handed me the files she was carrying and continued, “I have also prepared the preliminary documents concerning Stark Industries, including the stock acquisition proposal and the documents regarding the Arc Reactor patent and blueprints. Since the news of Tony Stark’s kidnapping has not been made public, Mr. Stane will likely require several days to prepare before the information can safely become public.”
I opened the file and began reading.
I could blackmail him directly.
I knew he was responsible for Tony’s kidnapping, and if I wanted, I could probably find enough evidence and force him to do almost anything.
But what would that actually give me?
Obadiah was going to die in around four months anyway.
There was no reason to waste Magicules or effort controlling someone who was already walking toward his own death.
This way was simpler.

Author’s Note:I don’t know how you guys feel about this whole meeting arc, but I hope you’re enjoying it.
Let me know what you think about how things are going so far.
Author’s Note (28|08|2026)
I’ve seen the comments about the direction of Chris’s relationship with Gwen and Helen, so I’m leaving the final choice to you guys.
I’m putting up a poll that will be available to everyone.
The poll will stay open for three days, and the option with the most votes will be the direction I follow going forward.
After the three days are over, the result will be final, and I won’t be taking any more requests to change the relationship direction later.
So if you care about where this goes, make sure you vote now.
If you find any errors (non-standard content, ads redirect, broken links, etc..), Please let us know so we can fix it as soon as possible.
