Knowing that someone was still trapped inside the burning building, the firefighters immediately prepared to charge back into the fire.
But the moment they turned around, flames were already shooting out of the woman’s windows, clearly growing more intense.
The two firefighters who had advanced up the stairs with hoses were forced to retreat in a sorry state. The thick smoke had made the stairwell completely unsuitable for anyone to remain inside.
Just as everyone was at a loss for what to do, Spider-Man—the friendly neighborhood Spider-Man—arrived.
He immediately adjusted the angle of his swing and entered through a window that was not yet blocked by flames, clearly intending to rescue the child.
Everyone was worried that Spider-Man’s heroic actions might get him hurt. More than anything, they hoped he could safely rescue the child without anyone getting injured.
When an internal flashover blew apart the windows and sent glass scattering across the street, everyone’s hearts nearly stopped.
But when Spider-Man successfully emerged carrying a swaddled baby and handed the child to the mother, everyone’s pent-up anxiety was released at once, erupting into enthusiastic cheers.
Even the mother began crying with joy as she looked at her child’s innocent, oblivious smile.
Unfortunately, the police had to ruin the mood by rushing over to arrest the masked vigilante.
The orders from their boss were that they were not to pursue Spider-Man, but if they saw him, they were to arrest him.
"Look! There’s someone else upstairs!"
A figure was standing beside a window in the burning apartment, and the faint sound of sobbing could be heard from inside.
This made the situation considerably less straightforward.
In the end, the police chose to compromise and let Spider-Man act. If he could rescue one baby from a burning building, rescuing a second one should not be a problem either.
The firefighters were already doing everything they could with their two hoses, but they were having little effect on the raging flames. Reinforcements from other fire stations were still on their way.
With permission finally granted, Spider-Man fired his first web and launched himself into the air.
His second web attached itself to the window, and he plunged headfirst into the burning building to begin searching for survivors.
The people outside could only watch with worry and a sliver of hope, praying that Spider-Man would emerge with the survivor.
Only the Wild Boar knew the truth.
This was a carefully prepared trap the Green Goblin had laid for Spider-Man.
Under the combined surveillance of the Wild Boar Armor and the Sparrow spy drones, the young Spider-Man, having fallen into the trap, was already locked in a fierce battle with the Green Goblin.
The two fought tooth and nail.
The Green Goblin continued preaching his theory that superhumans should rule over ordinary, incompetent humans, hoping to recruit Spider-Man to his side.
One had to admit, he truly was a villain who had come from the business world.
When confronted with someone capable of matching him, yet with whom he had no deep personal grudge, his first thought was to recruit the other party.
Forming alliances, building factions, and stabbing people in the back had practically become second nature to people like this.
However, the Green Goblin serum had magnified the evil in Norman Osborn’s heart, tearing away his layer of hypocritical virtue and allowing his true nature to show without restraint.
That was completely incompatible with Spider-Man’s fundamentally kind nature. How could the two possibly become allies?
So when they failed to see eye to eye, the Green Goblin pulled out a weapon resembling a pumpkin bomb.
In reality, it was a tracking boomerang, which he used to try to butcher Spider-Man amid the flames.
But Spider-Sense was simply too absurdly powerful.
Combined with Spider-Man’s agile movements and superhuman physique, even the boomerangs that could attack from outside his field of vision could barely touch him. Aside from one lucky strike that grazed Spider-Man’s arm, every other attack was dodged.
As the burning building around them began to collapse, this unsuccessful recruitment interview had no choice but to come to an end.
Spider-Man and the Green Goblin still had a dinner party to attend later.
Peter Parker and Norman Osborn would both be there.
Norman Osborn had gone to see his son that morning precisely to confirm this arrangement: meeting his son’s girlfriend, meeting Peter Parker’s guardian, and enjoying an early Thanksgiving dinner together.
Unfortunately, the Green Goblin had no intention of continuing the fight.
Taking advantage of the local terrain—the area lacked sufficiently tall buildings—he managed to shake off Spider-Man’s pursuit.
Even if the young Spider-Man wanted to bring the Green Goblin to justice, there was no point in having such thoughts if he could not catch someone flying away on a flight glider.
But how could a man patiently waiting to be the oriole behind the mantis let such an opportunity slip away?
Henry had originally thought that Norman Osborn would put on the Green Goblin armor and head straight for East Forty-Ninth Street to come after him.
Instead, the man had turned around and gone after Spider-Man.
This proved that Henry could not effectively predict the Green Goblin’s—or rather, Norman Osborn’s—behavior.
To prevent innocent people around him from being dragged into the mess, it would be better to simply kill this ticking time bomb!
The grappling gun mounted on the Wild Boar Armor’s shoulder fired and latched onto the parapet of the burning apartment building.
The powerful winch pulled tight, providing the Wild Boar with enough acceleration to shoot into the sky.
He brushed past Spider-Man as the latter leaped out of a window.
Henry paid no attention to whether the young Spider-Man wore a look of astonishment beneath his mask. The Wild Boar charged straight toward the Green Goblin.
The armor’s flight capability allowed him to make minor adjustments to his direction. And because he was moving so quickly, the Green Goblin, flying with his back turned, failed to anticipate the attack and had no idea he needed to maneuver the flight glider to evade the attacker coming from behind.
The Wild Boar slammed his head into him, knocking the arrogant man right off his flight glider.
As for who possessed the chatty personality, that was clearly the red-and-blue skintight-suited kid rushing over.
The Wild Boar had no interest in pointless chatter.
He turned around and chased after the falling Green Goblin.
One heavy punch was enough to send the Green Goblin plummeting toward the streets of New York at a speed far exceeding free fall.
The Wild Boar pursued close behind and stomped heavily on the Green Goblin, making the man curl up like a boiled-red shrimp.
Even though he had already been separated from the flight glider, the Green Goblin somehow produced a pumpkin bomb and hurled it at the enemy in front of him.
The Wild Boar had no interest in guessing whether the pumpkin-shaped object was a bomb or a boomerang.
He casually swung his hand and slapped the pumpkin bomb into the wall of a nearby building.
The resulting explosion did not shake the Wild Boar Armor in the slightest.
He merely raised his arm.
Strange lines of light began glowing across the armor, starting from his fist and spreading along his forearm and upper arm.
Then he brought his fist crashing down!
The single blow knocked the Green Goblin’s mask askew, loosening the buckles that secured it and exposing half of his terrified face.
The Wild Boar Armor slapped his thigh, drawing the dog-leg blade.
He raised his arm again.
This time, the light shining across the surface of the armor was even more intense. It extended all the way to his shoulder, chest, and back.
Even the blade began radiating the same light, becoming one with the armor.
"Wait!"
Spider-Man, who had chased after them from behind, fired a web that wrapped around the obviously murderous blade.
At the same time, the flight glider charged forward aggressively, looking as though it intended to impale the Wild Boar Armor straight through.
But Spider-Man had only just leaped from the apartment building and was still in midair, with nowhere to exert his strength.
The Wild Boar Armor did not regard such a minor obstruction as worth mentioning.
The spike at the front of the flight glider was even less of a concern.
If it could pierce Isu armor, that did not mean it could penetrate a Kryptonian’s steel-like body.
The first punch had tested the limits of the human body enhanced by the Green Goblin serum, while also exposing the Green Goblin’s delicate neck.
The second strike should send the Green Goblin on his way.
The blade came down!
But the Wild Boar Armor cut nothing but empty air, leaving only a deep slash across the asphalt.
The Green Goblin was gone!
