Martial Sovereign of the Turbulent World
Chapter 269 - 261: Madman
Chapter 269: Chapter 261: Madman
At Nan Xiangcheng’s command, at least thirty rifles opened fire simultaneously!
Muzzle flashes lit up the hall, and the deafening roar of continuous gunfire instantly filled the massive, four-story-high atrium.
The young man in the center of the hall began to walk. His pace wasn’t fast.
A torrential downpour of bullets whistled toward the moving white figure. The surrounding desks and floor instantly erupted in clusters of shredded paper and wood splinters.
Sheets of paper, blasted into the air by the impact of the bullets, danced and swirled through the hall.
Nan Xiangcheng, leaning on the third-floor railing with both hands, sneered as he looked down upon the scene. But gradually, the smile on his face began to fade.
The gunfire continued unabated for more than a dozen breaths, yet the figure in his sights showed no sign of falling. He just kept walking forward, unhurried, and was already approaching the central pillar of the first-floor hall.
Not a single trace of the blood he expected to see stained the snow-white suit.
"Are you all useless?"
Nan Xiangcheng cursed at the men on either side, his face dark. "How can so many of you not land a single shot? Get closer and shoot!"
More guards swarmed out, some even rushing down to the first-floor hall to fire at the white figure face-to-face.
By now, however, the young man was already nearing the staircase leading to the second floor.
Beside the staircase, a guard halfway through reloading his weapon suddenly felt something and looked up, only to see the white figure was already upon him.
His pupils contracted. Before he could react, his head burst like a watermelon in the next second!
BANG!
A few nearby guards were caught completely off guard, getting sprayed in the face with a gruesome mixture of red and white.
The gunfire on the first floor paused for an instant.
But before they could recover from the sudden gore, a second head, then a third, then a fourth... began to explode in succession!
BANG!
BANG!
BANG!
The young man made no discernible movements. His face even held a hint of nonchalance as he simply walked forward.
But with every step he took, the head of a nearby guard who was shooting at him would explode without warning!
A thick mist of blood splattered onto the nearby pillars, staining the exquisite volute patterns a glaring, crimson red.
The hall floor was soon covered in a wet, pinkish layer as bodies continued to fall.
One moment, a guard was expertly pulling back the bolt, chambering a round, and pulling the trigger; the next, he was a headless corpse.
The guards grew terrified. They began to retreat backward and upward uncontrollably.
They bottlenecked on the stairs leading from the first to the second floor!
"Fire! Fire!"
One man, trapped on the stairs by his comrades and unable to move, could only look up and scream hysterically as the white figure below drew ever closer.
The gunfire grew even more intense.
The gunshots inside the hall almost drowned out the sounds of the assault coming from outside.
Guards on the second and third floors began to converge on the staircase, firing down from their superior position at the figure slowly ascending.
Bullets fired from three different floors weaved an impenetrable net of death!
But no matter how many bullets were unleashed upon that figure, they made no "splash," as if they were being silently swallowed by something.
As he walked, the ferocious firepower shattered the marble floor tiles and solid wood steps, yet it couldn’t harm him in the slightest.
With one hand hovering over the handrail, the young man casually stepped over the corpses and slowly made his way to the second floor.
On the second-floor walkway, a guard holding a rifle watched his own bullet, just as it was about to hit the young man in the suit, seem to collide with an invisible, distorted barrier.
The bullet exploded in mid-air into a twisted flower of metal, then fell to the ground with a DING, a clear sound amidst the deafening gunfire.
"What the fuck... Is he even human?!"
The guard’s pupils shrank as he muttered subconsciously.
The man next to him paid him no mind, simply pulling the trigger frantically. Even after the magazine was empty, he kept pulling it mechanically.
"Kill him kill him kill him kill him..."
It wasn’t until the CLICK-CLACK of the empty chamber brought him back to reality that he fumbled to reload. Once the new magazine was in, he looked up...
Abruptly, the white figure was standing silently before him.
BOOM!
The young man moved along the second-floor walkway, seemingly on his way to the third floor.
Without exception, any guard along the way who couldn’t escape either had their head explode or was sent flying like a broken sack, smashing violently into railings and walls.
Blood.
Blood was everywhere.
The once-stately desks, the exquisite pillars, the granite floor—all were now splattered with warm, crimson red.
From the first-floor hall, up the stairs, and onto the second-floor walkway... the entire path had now become a bloody field of carnage.
Almost no one on the second floor was firing anymore. All the guards, pale and terrified, shoved each other on the walkway, scrambling to get away. They desperately tried to put distance between themselves and the terrifying figure, afraid that a moment’s hesitation would mean being overtaken by death.
The gunfire from the third and fourth floors hadn’t stopped, but the guards firing from there had long since lost their expressions of contempt, mockery, and cruelty. All that remained were faces slick with sweat and flashes of shock and bewilderment in their eyes.
Nan Xiangcheng was hurried from the third to the fourth floor, surrounded by his men. His expression was dazed.
The situation had developed in a way completely opposite to what he’d anticipated. He felt he had overlooked something extremely important, but for the moment, he couldn’t pinpoint what it was.
"Make way! Everyone, make way!"
Just then, several guards shouted as they ran out from a storeroom, carrying two heavy, black machine guns. Their eyes were bloodshot; clearly, the chaos had gotten to their heads.
Seeing this, Nan Xiangcheng’s eyes lit up, and he snapped out of his daze.
"Get out of my way!"
He shoved aside the subordinate protecting him and said coldly, "What are you running for? A bunch of cowards, all you know is how to run!"
Nan Xiangcheng rushed to the edge of the walkway in a few steps and leaned most of his body over the railing. His eyes locked onto the figure below as he said with a savage expression, "I’d like to see if he’s really made of steel!"
The guards carrying the heavy machine guns quickly reached the second floor and mounted both weapons directly on the walkway.
At that moment, the ghostly white figure rounded the corner of the walkway, coming face-to-face with the two cold, black muzzles of the machine guns.
"Fire!"
someone roared, their face contorted with ferocity.
The gunfire from the third and fourth floors also ceased. The muzzles of the two heavy machine guns spat out dazzling, fiery tongues, accompanied by a sound as dense as popping firecrackers.
On all floors, nearly everyone’s face showed an expression of relief, as if they had finally been saved.
Before long, however, their hopeful faces froze. Their relief quickly gave way to even greater shock, disbelief, and a deep terror that crept over them!
The bullets spewing from the heavy machine guns formed two terrifying metal storms that lashed against the white figure. In an instant, the wall, railing, and floor beside him exploded.
A sudden cloud of wood splinters and dust engulfed the figure, but a moment later, he walked right out of it.
He walked so calmly, even having the leisure to brush some plaster dust off his shoulder.
Bullet after bullet rattled against the floor at his feet, blossoming into one brass "flower" after another.
Not a single bullet could actually hit him. They either grazed past his cheek, neck, or waist, tearing off plaster and shattering railings, or they silently lost all momentum right before him and fell harmlessly to the ground...
It was as if he were just taking a walk.
A leisurely stroll through his own garden during a light rain.
The two heavy machine guns quickly ran out of ammunition, leaving only the CLICK... CLICK... CLICK... of empty triggers.
That sound was more terrifying than the gunfire!
Everyone was completely stunned, as if they couldn’t believe their eyes.
As the figure drew closer step by step, the guards awoke as if from a dream and began to surge backward desperately, heedless of anything else.
They scrambled and crawled away as if they had gone mad. Even when they trampled their own comrades, they paid no heed, driven only by the instinct to survive!
Blood, mixed with the muffled sounds of explosions, trickled down through the cracks in the floorboards and stairs. Sporadic gunfire erupted again from the third and fourth floors.
"Suppressive fire! Suppressive fire!"
On the third-floor walkway, a man who looked like a squad leader screamed himself hoarse. He was also firing, already on his third magazine. The webbing of his hand was numb from the heat, but he didn’t dare stop.
"A demon... This is a fucking demon..."
Someone suddenly threw down his gun and ran.
Nan Xiangcheng was also stunned, standing frozen in place as if he couldn’t hear a thing. He was being forcibly carried toward the fourth floor.
Just then, a stiff voice spoke up.
"This is a true top-tier Martial Artist. Ordinary firearms are completely useless against him!"
"Mr. Morita! Mr. Morita, help me!"
Hearing this voice, Nan Xiangcheng snapped out of his trance. As if grasping at his last straw, he lunged toward a short man with a toothbrush mustache who was stepping out from the crowd.
"Rest assured, Lord Nan. You can leave this person to me."
The man with the toothbrush mustache patted Nan Xiangcheng’s shoulder with a reassuring smile. Then, his expression turned blank as he turned his head and said coldly, "Liu Shengsang, this lunatic is all yours."
After he spoke, a man of medium-to-thin build, about five-foot-five, emerged silently from the crowd.
The man wore a black tunic suit. He had a long, narrow face with high cheekbones and somewhat dark skin. His features were unremarkable, but his eyes were like knives; anyone he glanced at felt as if they were being cut and stabbed.
As soon as the man appeared, his eyes fixed on the white figure below, and a look of intense fanaticism and cruelty quickly filled them.
He didn’t say a word. In an instant, his entire body shot forward like a cannonball.
BOOM!
The moment the man launched himself, the spot where Nan Xiangcheng and the others were standing exploded. The floor suddenly collapsed, sending a cascade of wooden planks and rubble tumbling down. An unlucky guard even fell through the gap, letting out a despairing cry.
In the middle of the four-story atrium, a brilliant, snow-bright flash of a blade suddenly erupted!
The young man in the white suit, who was on the second-floor stairs about to head up to the third, paused his steps slightly and glanced up toward the flash of the blade.
But just as quickly, his expression remained calm as he continued up the stairs.
