Chapter 6469: I’m the One Behind It. What About It?

As the golden light approached, one could vaguely spot two figures in it.

“Lord Shi Mo.”

The crowd cheered. None of them bowed, as Shi Mo had told them not to do so.

“Lord Shi Mo has brought an elder from the Divine Body Heavenly Mansion with him!” the young man remarked in excitement.

“Is everyone here?” Shi Mo asked.

“Milord, we are all here.”

“I was cultivating outside, but I rushed back!”

Countless voices tinged with excitement and delight echoed in response.

“That’s good.” Shi Mo nodded. He waved his sleeves, and a formation sealed off the city.

“A formation? Why would Lord Shi Mo construct a formation?”

The crowd was confused, as Shi Mo had never constructed a formation the last few times he was here. Nevertheless, they didn’t probe into it.

But what Shi Mo said next left the crowd in a daze.

“I have something to tell you. I, Shi Mo, have another identity. I am a member of the Netherworld Sect.”

The city was plunged into silence.

“Lord Shi Mo, you are pulling our legs, right?”

“He must be joking.”

“Netherworld Sectmembers are despicable, cunning, vicious, and inhumane, whereas Lord Shi Mo gives us resources and pills every year. He even helps by channeling the pill so that we can better absorb the medicinal energy. How can someone like that be related to the Netherworld Sect?” someone said.

“Indeed. If not for Lord Shi Mo’s pill, I’d have long succumbed to my illness and died!” the young man’s father voiced his agreement.

“I wouldn’t have lasted so long either,” the young man’s grandfather spoke feebly from the house.

“A bunch of fools,” the old man standing next to Shi Mo sneered.

He ripped off his Divine Body Heavenly Mansion’s robes to reveal the Netherworld Sect’s robe hidden beneath.

The crowd was horrified.

“Did you really think the pills were to your benefit? Those pills are meant for me. Their effectiveness is amplified when nourished with flesh and blood. The only downside is that I’ll have to extract the pill together with the flesh and blood nourishing it. In other words, you’ll be sacrificed.

“But again, trash like you is a waste of air. Becoming my fodder allows you to become part of something greater than what you can ever be. You’d have brought honor to your ancestors.”

The old man turned to Shi Mo. “Do it.”

“Yes, elder.” Shi Mo bowed to the old man.

“Lord Shi Mo, are you also...”

Seeing Shi Mo bow respectfully to a person dressed in the Netherworld Sect’s robes evoked an ominous feeling in the crowd. Is this... not a joke?

Shi Mo formed a hand seal, and a bizarre formation enveloped the sky.

GAH!!!

Everyone in the city revealed looks of pain. A bizarre power in their bodies was siphoning their blood and flesh.

“It hurts, Lord Shi Mo! It hurts so much! Please stop!”

“Lord Shi Mo, this joke isn’t funny!”

Some people still harbored delusions that this was all a joke.

Chu Feng didn’t plan to intervene right away. It was better for these people to see for themselves what they had gotten into. Had Shi Mo not revealed his true colors, it was doubtful these people would have trusted Chu Feng even if he told them the truth.

Even now, there were still people who thought Shi Mo was a good person, and this was a joke.

They had to suffer a bit before they would see the truth.

“Big brother Chu.”

“Lord.”

A hand suddenly grabbed Chu Feng’s elbow. It was the young man and his big brother.

“You aren’t affected by the formation as you have never taken the Netherworld trash’s pill. Hide in the house. Don’t let him discover you!” the young man’s big brother said. He was still worried about Chu Feng despite becoming so weak that he couldn’t even pull Chu Feng into the house.

The chatter diminished as the crowd grew weaker. Everyone had accepted their fate.

Boom!

The young man’s house suddenly burst open, and a brilliant golden light surfaced.

It was the young man’s grandfather.

He was still lying on the bed, but he held a scroll in his hand. The scroll floated into the air, bringing the young man’s grandfather with it. They formed a standoff against the duo from the Netherworld Sect.

“Don’t be afraid. Our Huang family has a protective treasure from an expert. We won’t let wretches from the Netherworld Sect wreak havoc in our city!” the young man’s grandfather said.

Under the effects of the scroll, his emaciated body gave off the airs of an expert.

He formed a hand seal, and the scroll’s golden light intensified.

Puft.

There was a light sputter reminiscent of a fart, then the scroll exploded without releasing any energy.

The young man’s grandfather plummeted from the sky.

The young man’s family had no strength to catch their grandfather.

Chu Feng casually waved his hand and caught the young man’s grandfather with his formation, allowing him to take no damage from the fall.

“Hahahahaha! Which expert gave you that protective treasure?” Shi Mo mocked.

“How can this be? How can this be?”

The young man’s grandfather stared at the scattered scroll bits in a daze. It had become apparent that the scroll was a fake. And if the scroll was fake, was the cultivator he had saved back then a fake as well?

The answer was obvious.

He had been scammed.

“Hahahaha...” The young man’s grandfather laughed miserly and manically.

His only faith had collapsed.

He had stood by the decision he had made back then even though his family was struggling. But looking back at it now, he was a big fool. His obstinacy had doomed his family to suffer with him. He had brought misery not just to himself but to his loved ones, too.

“You like to play the hero? Very well, I’ll take your life first!” Shi Mo spat.

He swiped his hand toward the young man’s family, only to freeze in horror the next moment. Somehow, he had failed to raise the young man’s grandfather as he had intended. He stared at his hand in disbelief.

Just then, the old man from the Netherworld Sect suddenly appeared in the courtyard and asked, “You’re the one behind this, right?”

The old man was standing right in front of Chu Feng.

The young man’s family was horrified. Despite knowing their deaths were imminent, it still plunged them into greater fear to have this demon appear right in front of them.

What they saw next completely baffled them.

Chu Feng hurled a punch forth. It penetrated the old man’s dantian, and the excruciating pain caused the latter to fall to his knees. Then, he placed his leg on the old man’s head, pinning the latter to the ground.

“Yes, I’m the one behind it. What about it?” Chu Feng asked.
