Married To My One Night Mistake
Chapter 128: Crossing paths
Clara Galileo cleared her throat softly, reclaiming her composure, though the playful glint in her eyes remained entirely intact.
"Good morning, everyone," Clara said, taking her seat. Her voice was just as warm as Newton remembered from the VIP lounge.
"Thank you for joining us here in Madrid. Let us begin the presentations for the private hangar facility." she said and the meeting began.
Newton’s project manager took the lead on the technical introductory slides, but when it came time to discuss the core structural integrity and foundational engineering of the hangar, Newton stepped up to present.
As he walked to the front of the room and clicked through the digital blueprints, he caught Clara looking at him with intense focus. He adjusted his posture, a small smile playing at the edge of his mouth as he looked directly at her.
"When designing a facility of this scale, especially for high end corporate and private fleets, our primary priority is structural longevity," Newton explained, his tone steady and confident. He paused slightly, making direct eye contact with Clara across the room.
"We believe in identifying any potential architectural flaws from day one. You can not build a specialized facility like this on an unstable foundation. If the foundation is not perfectly solid, the entire structure eventually comes down." he said.
Clara let out a short, quiet laugh, recognizing the exact advice she had given him inside the terminal three months ago.
"It is always best to not fly blind. You can not build a specialized facility on an unstable foundation. If the foundation is not perfectly solid, the entire structure eventually comes down." Clara said to Newton.
The other executives in the room looked briefly confused by the internal joke, but Clara simply nodded, her smile widening.
"An excellent philosophy, Mr. Martinez," Clara countered smoothly, leaning back in her chair. "In my line of work, we highly value absolute clarity before we start any major operation. We do not like flying blind." she said with a smile still on her face.
The meeting progressed with a surprising amount of positive energy. What should have been a tense, highly scrutinized corporate negotiation turned into a fluid, engaging dialogue.
Newton’s team detailed the precise material specifications, the weather-resistant roofing required for the Spanish climate, and the timeline for the hangar’s completion.
Clara asked sharp, highly informed operational questions, challenging their logistics, but her tone remained incredibly encouraging throughout the entire hour.
Every time their eyes met, that same lingering sense of mutual amusement and unexpected delight hovered between them.
Newton found himself presenting with an extra bounce in his step, completely enjoying the rhythm of the interaction.
Clara’s executive team was thoroughly impressed by the depth of the engineering proposal, nodding in agreement as the final slides concluded.
"The engineering metrics are exactly what we are looking for," Clara’s chief operating officer remarked, closing his notepad. "The timeline aligns perfectly with our regional expansion timeline." she said and looked over the final financial summary page in front of her, then closed her folio.
She looked up at Newton, her expression bright and completely relaxed. "I agree," Clara said.
"Your firm has provided the exact structural clarity and operational safety margins we require for this project. We will have the formal legal contracts drawn up and sent over to your local office tomorrow morning. Congratulations, Newton. Your team has won the contract." she said.
Newton’s team smiled broadly, shaking hands with the airline executives as the formal meeting officially concluded.
People began packing up their laptops, gathering their blueprints, and filtering out of the room to discuss the next administrative steps.
Newton intentionally lingered behind, neatly organizing his printed schematics into his briefcase. Clara remained at the table, waiting for the room to completely empty out.
Once the doors clicked shut and they were finally alone in the spacious room, the corporate formality completely vanished. They both broke into matching, lighthearted grins, the shared excitement of the surprise reunion breaking through.
"CEO and pilot," Newton said, shaking his head with a laugh as he stepped closer to her end of the table. "And now you own the airport authority building the hangars too? You did not mention that part of the operation when we first met." he said.
"I like to keep a few surprises up my sleeve," Clara joked, her demeanor completely friendly and open. She walked around the table to face him.
"It is really good to see you, Newton. You look completely different than the last time I saw you walking into that first class queue."
"I feel different," Newton admitted honestly, his smile genuine. "The heavy mind is completely gone. You were right about the foundation. I took your advice, cleared things up, and focused entirely on the path ahead. I am really glad this contract is keeping me right here at home in Madrid to oversee the whole build in person." he said.
"You are staying right here in Madrid?" Clara asked, her eyes lighting up with genuine interest as her smile widened. "That is fantastic news. It means the operation is in the best possible hands." she said giddily.
"I think it does," Newton said. He zipped up his briefcase and lifted it off the table, looking down at her with a bright, anticipatory expression. He extended his hand toward her.
"I guess we will be seeing a lot more of each other then," he said. Clara accepted his hand, her grip firm and warm, her eyes locking onto his with a brilliant smile. "I guess we will," she said.
Newton returned to his home just as he had been doing for months now immediately after work. But this time, there was a little bounce in his step as he walked into his home.
It was accompanied by the little glint in his eyes. A glint that was fueled by hope.
Newton hung up his jacket, the quietness of his space finally feeling peaceful instead of lonely. The memory of Selen’s silent rejection was not entirely gone but it was... quiet.
It was replaced by the memory of Clara Galileo’s brilliant smile. He walked over to the kitchen, poured a glass of water, and felt a profound sense of clarity.
He pulled his phone from his pocket and opened Clara’s operational files instead. He sat at his desk, ready to build a new path entirely on his own terms.
