Married To My One Night Mistake
Chapter 125: All about Clancy
Selen maintained her usual demeanor amidst the turmoil that was going on in her head.
"Your Daddy can not make it today, my love. He has a very busy schedule at his office for the rest of the afternoon." She responded. The kids nodded but still looked at her in anticipation of the answer to the next question.
Then she turned to Daniel, "and the reason your uncle Newton is leaving so early is because although he tried to clear his schedule before coming here, he had an urgent emergency that needed him back in Spain. He has to go back since this emergency is beyond his control" she said.
The last part was very specific to herself more than it was for the kids. "I like uncle Newton" David randomly said. This time, the tears threatened to leave her eyes.
"Me too, baby. Me too. But he has to go now, you will get to see him sooner than you think," she said to them.
The children accepted her explanation without any further questions and headed to the sitting room. Selen watched them go, her mind quietly processing her next move.
Her personal life was in total chaos, but her role as a mother remained. She watched them begin their assignments from school with the nanny, Sarah before she headed back up to her bedroom.
She needed a quiet space to go over what had happened today. And one question stayed on her mind- "now that she had lost Newton, what did that mean for her and Clancy? The man whom she had not even defined her feelings for"
****Clancy in his home***
Clancy sat entirely motionless in the dark kitchen of his private home, his fingers tightly wrapped around a glass of scotch he had not been able to touch.
Despite the exhaustion settling deep into his chest, he could not bring himself to down the liquid in the glass.
The absolute quiet of his home felt suffocating. He stared at the counter, his mind entirely paralyzed by the sheer weight of what had transpired.
There was no strategy left to formulate, no business logistics to review, and no corporate detachment capable of masking the cold reality of his isolation.
He stood up from the table, his joints stiff from being in one position for a long time. And he walked over to the windows overlooking his empty garden. He felt an intense wave of sadness take over his thoughts.
For months, ever since he found out she had been just across the English Channel throughout the entire seven years that he was looking for her and the kids, he had organized his entire life around his children.
And when she announced that she was moving to Kent, he had truly believed they were entering a brand new Chapter together, one where his unconditional devotion would finally be enough to mend the broken layout of their lives.
Now, he realized he had been completely blind. He had pushed too hard, too late. He had spent eight years waiting for the right moment to reclaim his family, only to find out that the space he thought he was preserving had already been occupied by someone else.
Seeing the raw truth of her choices proved that his presence in her life was nothing more than an administrative necessity- a father figure to be managed step by step, completely under her control and supervision, while her actual intimacy belonged to another man.
He had convinced himself that fixing his family’s toxic footprint would earn him a place by her side, but he had simply been a spectator in her new life.
Clancy leaned his forehead against the cool glass of the window, his breathing deep and ragged. The look of heartbreak and sadness on his face was entirely raw, a total collapse of the confidence he usually wore like armor.
It infuriated him that he could not even look at his own choices without seeing the shadow of the man who had left her alone at the court house all those years ago.
He looked like a man who had now totally given up on them and their future together. The hope that had carried him through years of exile had vanished completely, leaving behind an empty, echoing silence that no amount of personal capital or high-society influence could ever fill.
He asked himself if he should have stayed, if he should have demanded a clear, logical justification for the mixed signals or the sudden shift in their dynamic. But his mind knew it was completely unproductive.
The speechlessness he encountered was not a temporary hesitation, it was a definitive reflection of her true parameters. She had made her choice, she had chosen her safety net, and she had left him standing alone in the dark.
He had offered to dismantle every constraint, to walk away from his legacy, and to drop everything just to be her shield, but his promise of security meant nothing against the barrier she had placed between them.
Clancy turned away from the window, walked back to the sofa, and buried his face in his hands. The silence of his phone on the counter matched the stillness of his home.
There were no notifications, no updates from the logs, and absolutely no messages. He was completely isolated in his own home, staring at the wreckage of his choices, finally accepting that he had totally lost the only woman he had ever wanted to protect.
The glass of scotch remained untouched on the table, a single marker of a man who had finally run out of ways to fight for a future that was never his to claim.
He stayed on the couch for hours as the afternoon faded into darkness, refusing to turn on a single lamp. The darkness felt appropriate, matching the total shutdown of his expectations.
He thought about the triplets, wondering how he would even look them in the eye without feeling the sharp friction of their mother’s rejection.
He would still fulfill his duties as their father and provide whatever structural support they needed, but his personal dream was dead.
He had been locked out of her life completely, relegated to a distant branch on a family tree that he had desperately tried to make whole.
He closed his eyes, letting the heavy, unyielding silence of the house consume him completely. If only his mind could be as silent as the home was.
