Married To My One Night Mistake
Chapter 118: A Change of Heart
The deep and heavy defensive walls Selen had spent almost eight years building to completely insulate her children from the Avelino family were beginning to feel less like a necessary shield and more like an unyielding barrier.
She thought about how much the triplets had grown to love Clancy despite her initial fears, and she realized she did not want to carry the heavy weight of an old grudge into their new Chapter anymore.
Sitting down at her desk, she looked out the window with a profound sense of clarity finally taking over her numerous spinning thoughts.
She decided right then that she was going to show the kids to Rose and Jimmy, their grandparents.
She did not want to set a definite day or rush into a frantic schedule just yet, but now she knew with absolute certainty that she wanted them to meet.
She wanted her children to have the opportunity to experience that love on their own terms, free from the toxic constraints of the past.
It was time to open the door slowly, completely under her own control and supervision, to ensure her family remained safe while allowing her children to grow.
She was going to let Rose and Jimmy Avelino into her children’s lives.
It was not going to be because she thought she owed them a right to be a part of her children’s lives, but because she believed that was another form of a mother’s love- moving past her own personal reasons and doing what may be the best for the kids.
*** Clancy in the Avelino estate**
Clancy had arrived at the Avelino estate to pay them a visit. Part of the reason for his decision was because of Selen’s unexpected visit to the home and his bedroom.
The other part was just a sign of acknowledgement to his parents. He knew that if they found out that he had come to England without seeing them, it could insinuate that he still held a grudge toward them.
Rose was trying to completely break down the unyielding barrier between herself and Clancy by letting go of the heavy weight of her old pride.
She walked on eggshells to insulate their connection from any past hostility, she showed profound clarity by allowing him to dictate their boundaries, ensuring his peace of mind remained completely untouched.
Clancy sat on the sofa in the estate drawing room, holding a cup of coffee. He was relaxed but reserved. The heavy hostility of the early years had faded into a calm, polite boundary.
He was here to acknowledge his parents, ensuring they knew he did not hold a bitter grudge, but he wasn’t looking to completely merge their lives just yet.
Rose sat opposite him, she looked at her son with a warm smile. "I am really glad you dropped by, Clancy," Rose said, keeping her voice steady and pleasant.
"Your father and I always appreciate when you make time for us, especially with your busy schedule. We want you to know that we respect your space, but our door is always open." She said,
Clancy took a sip of his drink and nodded politely. "Thank you, Mom. I wanted to stop by and let you know I am in England for a bit. Since we’re all in the same country now, it just made sense to see how you and Dad are doing." He said
Rose felt a wave of relief, but she kept her composure. In the past, she would have demanded he stay for dinner or asked invasive questions. Now, she practiced restraint.
"We are doing well. Your father is out at the office, but he will be thrilled to hear you stopped by. We have been focusing on our own routine, and we truly want nothing but the best for you and your path." she said.
Clancy evaluated her calm demeanor. He appreciated that she was not forcing an unearned closeness or bringing up old drama.
"I appreciate that. Things are moving forward, and I am glad we can keep things grounded like this." he said.
Rose offered a genuine nod. "Absolutely. We learned our lesson, Clancy. Your peace of mind and your choices come first. We are just happy to be on good terms with you." she said.
Clancy did not stay long after that. His mother told him about what had encountered in Selen’s visit and he could not fight the little feeling of pride about their apology.
He visited his bedroom, and although he was not there often, he felt the emptiness of what was left after Selen’s things were gone.
Remembering what she told him early did not help. She was taking herself out of his life.

Meanwhile, at Selen’s Kent estate, Selen gathered David, Daniel, and Diana together in the sunlit sitting room. She sat down on the floor with them, feeling a practical sense of clarity. The heavy defensive walls she had maintained for eight years were ready to come down, replaced by a controlled, sensible introduction.
"My loves, I want to talk to you about our family tree," Selen began, her voice steady and natural as the triplets looked up from their drawing blocks.
"You know how much we love Clancy, and how he is such a big part of our lives. Well, Clancy has parents who live right here in England. They are his mom and dad, Rose and Jimmy Avelino" she said.
The triplets listened closely, their expressions curious. "They are your grandparents," Selen explained with a reassuring smile, keeping any past tension completely away from her narrative.
"For a long time, we needed our own quiet space to grow up and get settled together. But now that we are here in Kent, I think it is time for you to meet them. They have wanted to know you for a while now." she said.
"Are we going to their house, Mommy?" David asked. "We are not going to rush into anything today or tomorrow," Selen replied practically.
"But soon, we will invite them over here so you can get to know them on your own terms. I will be right there with you the whole time, and we will take it step by step."
Diana smiled and leaned against her mother, while Daniel and David nodded with excitement about meeting new family members. Selen held them close, confident that this controlled bridge was the right move for her children’s future. It was a brand new Chapter for everyone.
