Married To My One Night Mistake

Chapter 110: A grand opportunity

  • Next Chapter

When the driver pulled into the driveway and she finally unlocked her front door, she was welcomed by the usual silence that was only present when the kids were asleep.

A staff member almost immediately went to meet her when she came in and informed her that the kids were already upstairs with the nanny sleeping peacefully after their first day in the new environment.

"Thank you," Selen politely said to her and went up the stairs. Although she was already informed that they were all asleep, she still walked to each of their rooms to check on them.

As she opened the door to her really large room, the first thing she noticed was the stack of mail that was neatly placed on the table that faced the door.

After placing her bags and coat in their correct places, she went to them and scanned through. They included details of her transfer and that of the kids’ old school as well.

As she sorted through the mail, she turned her laptop on and began to check her mail as she usually did. She did not expect to see anything relevant since she had just checked it about three hours ago.

But to Selen’s surprise, she saw a letter with a sender address that she never imagined or expected- The Vanguard International Art Group. She looked at the name over and over again before she even opened the mail.

The Vanguard International Art Group was one of the most elite, high profile art conglomerates in the world, a company known for launching massive global talent and managing major museum acquisitions.

Then, she began to read the content of the mail.

"Dear Ms. Selen, the letter read. We understand that your work has recently brought you to the United Kingdom. The executive board at Vanguard has been following your career with great interest. We would love to invite you to our London headquarters next Thursday for a private meeting. We want to discuss a formal acquisition offer and a directorial role tailored to your specific creative background. Please let us know your availability."

Selen stood completely still in the quiet room, her heart racing as she stared at the words. A sharp wave of confusion hit her. Vanguard was a massive institution that people spent their entire lives trying to pitch to, and they almost never reached out to outside curators out of nowhere.

She looked around the empty room, her mind filled with questions. She had only been in the country for a few days, she had not sent her resume to any United Kingdom job boards, and her move was supposed to be private information.

"How do they even know I am in London already?" she thought. She looked at the official signature at the bottom, her confusion turning into deep suspicion.

What could a company that size possibly want with her so urgently? And most of all, how had they tracked her down in Kent before she had even finished settling in?

She looked at her screen for a significantly long period of time, no longer reading the texts, but just in deep thoughts. It was a grand invitation, but she could not help but be suspicious at how sudden it was. "Maybe it is some kind of new scam?" She thought.

But as she looked at the letter head, the signature, she began to see the genuineness of it all. She even went as far as to look up the company on her search engine, and when she traced their official email, it redirected her back to the same email address that she got the mail from.

Before she could spend a minute more overthinking it all, a call came in on her cell. When she took her phone out, she saw that it was Newton, her boyfriend. She still felt her stomach flip whenever she thought about it.

Selen cleared her throat and answered the call, a soft smile finally breaking through her exhaustion as she pressed the phone to her ear and walked away from the table and onto her bed.

"Hello, Newton", she said quietly, the anxious thoughts about the Vanguard email instantly softening at the sound of his voice.

"You made it to England safely, I assume?" Newton asked.

"I tried calling you earlier, but your phone went straight to voicemail. I wanted to make sure the private transport handled everything correctly for you and the kids" he said.

"Yes, we arrived safely", Selen replied, leaning back against the pillows of her large mattress.

She intentionally kept her answer brief, completely omitting the fact that it was actually Clancy’s private jet that had flown them across the English Channel. She knew how fragile things still were between them, and she did not want to ruin the peace they had found.

"The car was waiting for us as promised. The kids are already asleep in their rooms, and the estate in Kent is beautiful, Newton. It is exactly the kind of quiet environment Diana needs right now" she said.

"Good. I want nothing less than total comfort for you and the triplets, Selen", Newton said, his tone full of affection.

"I know the sudden move was stressful, but I am so glad we talked through everything before you left Madrid. Knowing that you chose to be with me, and that we are facing this next Chapter together, makes the distance much easier to handle" he said with a smile on his lips.

"It makes a difference for me too", she admitted softly, looking out at the quiet room. "Having your support means everything, especially with how difficult the committee was today" she said.

"I am already tracking your schedule", Newton continued smoothly, his voice supportive.

"My current projects here in Madrid will keep me bound to the city for a little while longer, but I will come to see you and the triplets by the end of the new month. I want to see the estate in Kent myself and spend some real time with you and the kids" he said.

"By the end of the month", Selen repeated with a genuine sense of anticipation. "That gives us some time to establish a proper routine here before you arrive" she said.

"Precisely. Sleep well, love. I will call you tomorrow", Newton said before hanging up. Selen slowly lowered the phone, a soft sigh escaping her lips as she sunk deeper into the sheets while still in her work clothes.
