Nathan felt conflicted seeing his son act this way.

「That evening...」

After they finished dinner and returned to the bedroom, Nathan Fawcett said to Anne Sutton, "Have you noticed that Ian seems to really hate me lately?"

"..." Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "You’re only just now realizing this?"

"..." Nathan Fawcett said, "I already explained the situation with Finn to him, but he’s still ignoring me."

Honestly, Nathan Fawcett felt rather helpless.

He had watched his son grow up.

Ian had been so clingy ever since he was little. Nathan was having a hard time getting used to his current coldness.

Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "Isn’t this what you deserve? You have two sons now. It’s only natural for Ian to be upset, but I suppose you don’t really care, do you?"

Hearing Anne’s words, Nathan Fawcett said, "Does it make you that happy to see Ian and me on bad terms?"

"Did I say I was happy? Do you think I haven’t been putting in a good word for you with Ian? He may be a child, but he has his own thoughts about many things."

"..." Nathan Fawcett said, "Well, I can’t just disown Finn and kick him out! My mom would never agree to that either."

After Finn arrived, Anna Linden’s mood had clearly improved a great deal.

She also showed significantly more concern for Finn than for Ian.

It wasn’t that everyone was playing favorites.

It was just that Finn had no father or mother. Compared to Ian, who had both parents around, everyone naturally, and unconsciously, leaned toward him a little more.

Because of this, it was inevitable that Ian would feel resentful.

Anne Sutton said, "It’s fine! Ian’s already grown up. He’ll learn to be understanding. Isn’t that how people grow up?"

Nathan Fawcett looked at her and said, "Don’t say it like that. You’re making me feel guilty."

"So it’s my fault?" Anne Sutton looked at him, a sense of helplessness in her expression.

Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll go spend some time with Ian."

Her words had made him feel a bit guilty, so he hurried off to see his son.

Ian was in his room watching cartoons. When Nathan Fawcett walked in, Ian saw who it was but didn’t say a word.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Why aren’t you saying anything to your dad?"

Ian said, "What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to come see you." Nathan Fawcett walked over and sat beside him. "Still watching TV this late?"

"I like it." Ian flopped onto his pillow, ignoring Nathan Fawcett.

Nathan Fawcett said, "How about I take you out this weekend?"

"I don’t want to go."

"Your mom is going too."

"?" Ian looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, "They said my mom won’t be with you. That she doesn’t like you at all."

"..." Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett rubbed the bridge of his nose, wondering who had been spreading such nonsense. He asked Ian, "What do you think?"

Ian said, "I don’t know. If you and my mom aren’t together, I’m going to live with my mom in the future. I won’t live with you."

Hearing his words, Nathan Fawcett said, "That’s so heartless. Does all the care I’ve given you over the years mean nothing?"

"Well, you have Finn now anyway." He was still very bothered by this.

Nathan Fawcett said, "Finn’s father isn’t around, so I can only take care of him on his behalf. As for you..."

Ian had been watching TV the whole time, but now, hearing Nathan Fawcett’s words, he looked up at him. "What about me?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "You are my son. No matter where you go, you will always be my son. No one can change that. Even if one day you want to live with your mother and not with me, you are still my child. Understand?"

"..." Ian pouted. "I don’t want to be your son. I want to be Mom’s son."

"You ungrateful little brat." Nathan Fawcett said, "I’ll sleep in here with you tonight."

"Why? I don’t need you to! Go stay with Finn." Ian was very unhappy.

Nathan Fawcett looked at the little guy and said, "Enough TV. Come on, I’ll take you to get a bath."

"I don’t need you. I can do it myself."

Despite what he said, he was still dragged into the bathroom by Nathan Fawcett.

Once in the bathroom, Ian frowned. "Stupid Dad, you’re the worst!"

Nathan Fawcett said, "Dad’s been a little busy with work lately, so I haven’t been able to pay much attention to you. Don’t spend all day thinking about nonsense. If something’s on your mind, just tell me. If that doesn’t work, you can always call me, you know?"

Ian looked at him and said, "I don’t need to. Mom is all I need."

Nathan Fawcett was genuinely hurt by that. "Fine! Then I’ll run away from home, and you can live with your mother."

Seeing his resentful expression, Ian started to laugh. "But you’re the one who said I’m not allowed to run away from home."

In the past, Ian used to run away from home all the time.

Sometimes he’d be on the way to the hospital for a shot and would run off halfway there. Nathan Fawcett had warned him about it many times.

So now, hearing Nathan Fawcett say he was going to run away from home, he naturally found it a little funny.

Nathan Fawcett said, "I have no status in this house anymore. What am I still doing here? Your mom doesn’t like me either, as you well know."

"Then are you still going to marry my mom?" Ian asked.

Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s not that I don’t want to. It’s that your mother doesn’t want to marry me."

Thinking of this, Nathan Fawcett sighed to himself.

He knew he wasn’t doing enough.

But now he no longer knew what more he could possibly do.

Anne Sutton didn’t want to marry him.

But he desperately wanted to marry her...

’Are we really going to live like this for the rest of our lives?’

After helping Ian finish his bath, Nathan Fawcett brought him out.

Since Nathan Fawcett had come specifically to cheer him up, Ian’s mood improved considerably.

His attitude toward Nathan wasn’t so cold anymore.

On the other hand, it was Nathan Fawcett who, in the middle of talking with his son, suddenly got all emo.

He felt a little unhappy, even a bit melancholy.

He picked up his phone and sent a message to Anne Sutton, "Want to go out for dinner tomorrow night?"

Anne Sutton was already getting ready for bed. When she saw his message, she replied, "Sure. At my mom’s place?"

"Let’s eat somewhere else." Although Mrs. Sutton’s cooking was delicious, they went there every time. Nathan Fawcett wanted to go somewhere different for a change.

Anne Sutton saw his reply, nodded, and typed back on her phone: "Okay."

...

At that thought, Nathan Fawcett went to book a restaurant.

By the time he finished booking the restaurant, Ian was already asleep.

He saw that Ian hadn’t been covered with the blanket, so he tucked him in.

The next day, Nathan Fawcett left work early, picked up Ian and Finn, and then went to the hospital to pick up Anne Sutton.

He recalled the days back in Westhaven when he would take Ian to pick her up from work. Those had been nice times.

Anne Sutton got in the car, looked at the father and the two boys, and asked Nathan Fawcett, "Did you book a place for dinner?"

"It’s booked."

"Let’s go." Anne Sutton turned her head, glanced at the two children, and smiled.

The restaurant Nathan Fawcett had booked was the same place where he had celebrated Anne Sutton’s birthday last time.

It was one of the most luxurious restaurants in Veridia.

The last time, he had booked the entire place for her birthday, thinking everything would go smoothly, but in the end...

...he just ended up looking like a clown!

Anne Sutton followed Nathan Fawcett through the door.

Unlike the last time when he had booked the whole venue, today there were other customers, and the place was quite lively.
