Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 462: He Doesn't Listen
“What I said is true.” Seeing Stella Shields contradict her, the woman said, “You talk as if you know everything! Oh, right, I heard you used to chase after Nathan Fawcett, didn’t you?”
“…” Stella Shields’s expression stiffened. Her face darkened as she said, “You’re mistaken! The person I like is Ethan Linden, Nathan Fawcett’s brother, not him. I just didn’t realize he was *the* Nathan Fawcett! I’ve known Ethan for a very long time.”
She had already convinced herself to forget about Nathan Fawcett.
‘Nathan Fawcett could never like her.’
‘But, thank goodness for Ethan Linden…’
‘Thank goodness there’s still someone in this world who likes me.’
“Ethan Linden, huh?” The woman chuckled at Stella Shields’s words. “You don’t know, do you? I heard Nathan Fawcett recently adopted a child.”
“What child?” Stella Shields looked at the woman.
The woman said, “They say the child is the one Ethan Linden had with another woman, and Nathan Fawcett brought him into his family. You say you like Ethan Linden, but I don’t think he liked you back!”
“Are you kidding me?” Stella Shields said. “I’m the one Ethan Linden liked!”
‘She was certain that while Nathan Fawcett didn’t like her, Ethan Linden definitely did.’
‘If Ethan were still alive, he would have married me.’
Stella Shields had no doubt about that.
The woman raised an eyebrow. “Believe it or not!”
…
It was already very late by the time filming wrapped up and she left.
Stella Shields frowned, thinking about what they had said today. She picked up her phone and called Caleb Summers.
She hadn’t had much contact with Anna Linden or Nathan Fawcett recently.
But luckily, she knew Caleb Summers from before and still had his number.
Caleb Summers was a little surprised to get her call. “What’s up?”
Stella Shields said, “I heard Nathan recently adopted a child. Is that true?”
She didn’t believe it, so she wanted to confirm.
Caleb Summers said, “Yeah! You’re talking about Finn, right? He’s Ethan Linden’s son, from a relationship he had with another woman before his accident. He looks a lot like Ian.”
“…” Hearing Caleb Summers’s calm words, Stella Shields’s fingers clenched tightly together.
Caleb Summers asked, “Is there anything else?”
His question made Stella Shields feel extremely awkward, and she hung up the phone abruptly.
Meanwhile, Nathan Fawcett was at the hospital.
Caleb Summers was there too.
He had heard Nathan Fawcett was sick and came to visit.
Nathan Fawcett was lying in a hospital bed. Anna Linden had just given him a check-up and told him to stay in the hospital overnight to rest.
Caleb Summers stood to the side. After hanging up, he looked at Nathan Fawcett and said, “You’re this sick, and Anne Sutton hasn’t even come to see you once.”
“I didn’t tell her.” Nathan Fawcett glanced at Caleb Summers. “There’s no need to tell her about this.”
“Are you two planning on never seeing each other again?” Caleb Summers was highly skeptical of Nathan Fawcett’s situation.
‘Could Nathan Fawcett really let go of Anne Sutton?’
‘He just couldn’t believe it.’
‘He felt that Nathan Fawcett wouldn’t give up on Anne Sutton just because she rejected his proposal.’
Nathan Fawcett said, “No!”
He, Anne Sutton, and Ian—their relationship wouldn’t be severed just because of this.
And besides…
He was so in love with Anne Sutton.
‘She didn’t do anything wrong.’
Speaking of Anne Sutton, Nathan Fawcett realized…
It had only been a day since he’d seen her, and he already missed her.
‘I wonder how she’s doing today!’
Nathan Fawcett said to Butler Walters, “Where’s my phone?”
Butler Walters quickly brought Nathan Fawcett’s phone over.
He had been sleeping all day. When it started to get dark, the butler saw that things weren’t looking good and forcibly dragged Nathan Fawcett to the hospital for a check-up.
Nathan Fawcett took the phone and only now saw the message Anne Sutton had sent him.
It was the one she had sent last night.
He replied, “Ian is at home. He’s doing fine.”
Anne Sutton had already returned to the Linden Family estate by then, so Nathan Fawcett’s message came a little late.
After she got back today, she heard from the housekeeper that Nathan Fawcett had been drinking last night and had since gone out.
So Anne Sutton had no choice but to stay and take care of the two children.
Anne Sutton picked up her phone and sent Nathan Fawcett a message. “What are you busy with right now?”
Nathan Fawcett replied, “I’m out, taking care of some things.”
“Okay.” After replying to his message, Anne Sutton lay down on her bed, stared at the ceiling, and started to fall asleep.
…
Lying in his hospital bed, Nathan Fawcett had just replied to Anne Sutton’s message, but now he couldn’t sleep.
‘He thought he was being ridiculous. Even so, he still wanted to go see her!’
‘I want to see her so badly!’
‘What is she doing right now?’
‘Could she be feeling guilty about rejecting him last night, so much that she can’t sleep either?’
At this thought, Nathan Fawcett climbed out of the hospital bed and started getting dressed.
Once dressed, he left the hospital and went to the Sutton Family’s home.
He stood downstairs, looking up at her room. The lights were off; she must be asleep.
‘He wanted to go up to see her, but…’
When he reached the door, he held himself back.
Caleb Summers walked over. Seeing Nathan Fawcett standing there hesitating, he said, “If you want to see her, then just go! What are you standing here thinking for?”
Nathan Fawcett’s gaze fell on Caleb Summers. “None of your business.”
Caleb Summers rolled his eyes at him. “Nathan… I never thought that even someone like you could be so pathetic when you like someone. Look at the fucking state you’re in! You still came all this way to see her, and for what? You get to her door and don’t even have the guts to wake her.”
“…” Just as Nathan Fawcett was arguing with Caleb Summers, his phone rang.
He took it out and saw it was a call from Anna Linden.
Anna Linden asked, “Where are you?”
Nathan Fawcett replied, “I’m out.”
“Didn’t I tell you to stay in the hospital tonight and not go anywhere?! Nathan Fawcett, do you have a death wish?!”
As a doctor, Anna Linden was getting angry.
He had gone drinking last night until he was vomiting blood, yet he still didn’t understand how serious this was.
It wasn’t like he was unaware of his own condition!
Hearing this, Nathan Fawcett said, “I’m on my way back.”
He was still intimidated by his mother.
After one last glance at Anne Sutton’s window, Nathan Fawcett got in the car and returned to the hospital.
When he got back to the hospital, his phone was confiscated.
Anna Linden looked at him and said, “Your scans came back. You are going to stay in the hospital and rest properly for two days. Don’t even think about going to the company.”
Nathan Fawcett looked at her. “Is it that serious?”
“Not serious?” Anna Linden retorted. “If it wasn’t serious, do you think I’d be bothering with you?”
Nathan Fawcett: “…”
Seeing his mother’s stern and furious expression, Nathan Fawcett fell silent.
Anna Linden said, “You are so reckless with your own health! You’re going to be the death of me. Maybe because you’re not a doctor, you don’t understand, Nathan Fawcett, but do you know how much effort it took for me to save you back then? Don’t think that just because I’m here, you don’t have to worry about your body. As a doctor, my abilities have limits. Do you understand?”
Hearing his mother’s words, Nathan Fawcett nodded. “Mm.”
Anna Linden looked at Butler Walters. “If he doesn’t listen, you call Anne Sutton over and have her keep an eye on him.”
