Not to mention, he wanted his mother to come live with her and help take care of the baby!

’The very thought was a little scary.’

David Hayes looked at Sharon Sutton and smiled. "Don’t worry. I’ve got this all figured out. Think about it. Hiring a nanny would cost thousands, if not tens of thousands, a month. My mom doesn’t make that much at her job. I’d rather give her the money to come help with the baby. It solves multiple problems at once, don’t you think?"

Hearing David Hayes’s words, Sharon Sutton looked at him and said, "Alright, we’ll do it your way."

Since he’d put it like that, she couldn’t really argue.

It was settled, then!

...

Soon, Mrs. Sutton’s restaurant had its grand opening.

On opening day, Caleb Summers and Justin Shields both sent her flower arrangements to celebrate.

The restaurant was decorated quite nicely.

Mrs. Sutton had opened the restaurant mainly to pass the time, so she had designed everything according to her own tastes.

Even though she had been a full-time housewife for so many years, she wasn’t clueless. She had made the place look quite professional.

Anne Sutton worked in the morning and came over after her shift ended.

Because it was the first day, there were special promotions, and the restaurant was crowded.

She walked in and saw her mother greeting customers.

Nathan Fawcett and Caleb Summers were there too, along with Ian. The three of them were sitting at a table, getting ready to eat.

Mrs. Sutton’s cooking was excellent. Caleb Summers loved it, and Nathan Fawcett had also grown quite fond of her dishes. She was a truly fantastic cook.

The customers who came to eat today also thought the food was quite good.

Anne Sutton walked over to Nathan Fawcett’s table, sat down, and said, "Have you guys started eating already?"

"Not yet," Nathan Fawcett said, looking at her. "We were waiting for you."

They had ordered a small hot pot and a few stir-fried dishes.

Caleb Summers said, "Anne, if you’d taken any longer, I would have starved to death."

"Is it that serious?" Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers and asked, "You guys didn’t have work today?"

"We did," said Caleb Summers. "But since it’s Auntie’s grand opening, we left work early."

"Your boss is right here. Aren’t you afraid he’ll chew you out for leaving early?"

Anne Sutton glanced at Nathan Fawcett.

Although Caleb Summers had his own family business, at the company, Nathan Fawcett was indeed his boss.

Caleb Summers said, "He was in more of a hurry than I was! The new store’s promotions were all our boss’s idea! Ethan is really invested in this!"

Anne Sutton looked at Nathan Fawcett. "My mom told me everything. She said you were even more enthusiastic about her opening the restaurant than she was, to the point where she felt embarrassed. You really don’t have to help her with everything. She can handle it herself."

Nathan Fawcett said, "It’s all set up now, so I won’t have to be involved anymore. I just came over on your behalf because I was worried you’d be anxious."

Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "Thank you."

Even though she said he didn’t need to help, she was actually quite happy that he had.

Just as Anne Sutton finished saying thank you, she felt his hand take hers under the table.

He’d taken to secretly holding her hand lately.

She looked at the man and smiled.

Sitting nearby, Caleb Summers had just taken a bite of food. He looked at Anne Sutton and said, "Anne, what are you smiling at Ethan for? I feel like you two are secretly up to no good behind my back."

"..." Anne Sutton looked at Caleb Summers, surprised. ’Damn, is it that obvious?’

’It can’t be!’

Nathan Fawcett said, "If you don’t want to eat, you can leave."

Caleb Summers asked, "Have you two set a date for the wedding?"

Nathan Fawcett said, "Soon."

"What do you mean, soon?" said Caleb Summers. "Has your maternal grandfather come back yet?"

At this, Nathan Fawcett said, "He said he’s coming back next month."

Caleb Summers glanced at Anne Sutton, looked like he wanted to say something, but held his tongue.

After dinner, Caleb Summers went to the restroom.

Anne Sutton intercepted him in the hallway on his way back.

When Caleb Summers saw her, he said, "Anne."

Anne Sutton said, "Was there something you wanted to say earlier but didn’t?"

His evasiveness was making Anne Sutton uneasy.

She hated it when people kept things from her instead of just saying them outright!

Caleb Summers said, "No! What are you talking about?"

"You said Ethan’s grandfather is coming back, didn’t you? Is his grandfather scary?"

Caleb Summers said, "I’m just worried he won’t approve of you two being together! You don’t know the history of the Linden Family. Back when Auntie Linden was with Ethan’s father, the old man was dead set against it. After all, Ethan’s father was just some poor kid back then, without much to his name. And in the end, he ended up letting Auntie Linden down. So, do you think the old man would be happy about it? If he finds out his grandson is marrying Nathan Fawcett’s ex-wife, he’s probably going to flip out."

"The old man doesn’t know Ethan Linden’s true identity?"

Anne Sutton was a little surprised.

Caleb Summers said, "I don’t think so! If he knew, why would he let Ethan Linden inherit the family business? He’d definitely give it to his other grandchildren instead. Otherwise, why would Ryan Linden and his people be so desperate to snatch the inheritance? They really think they’re hot stuff now! So, Ethan is actually in a really tough spot. But from what I can see, he seems to really like you, so we’ll just have to see how it plays out!"

Caleb Summers said, "We should hurry back. If I say any more, Ethan will have my head!"

Nathan Fawcett had been keeping a close eye on him lately, so he felt a little guilty even for talking to Anne Sutton for too long.

Hearing Caleb Summers’s words, Anne Sutton looked at him and said, "Alright."

She followed Caleb Summers back to their table.

Nathan Fawcett was feeding Ian.

He certainly had a lot of patience.

When he saw Anne Sutton and Caleb Summers return, he shot a look at Caleb.

Anne Sutton sat down and looked at Nathan Fawcett.

Remembering what Caleb Summers had said, she couldn’t help but feel a little worried.

He had so much weighing on him now; she wasn’t sure if they could really be together.

When she wasn’t thinking about romance or marrying him, Anne Sutton didn’t care. Her life was what it was, and if she wanted to let it all fall apart, she would. She could do whatever she wanted.

But once she started to hope for a future with him, she realized there was so much more to consider.

With so much on her mind, she became quieter.

After a busy day at the hospital, Anne Sutton was exhausted and just wanted to go home and take a shower. She said goodbye to Mrs. Sutton, who was still minding the restaurant. "Mom, we’re done eating and heading back. Do you want to come with us?"

"No, that’s okay," Mrs. Sutton said. "You go on ahead."

Anne Sutton said, "Okay, I’ll head back then. When you’re ready to come home later, give me a call, and I’ll come pick you up."

"No, no, don’t worry about it," said Mrs. Sutton. "I have no idea what time I’ll be done."

Business was booming, and the customers hadn’t left yet. She didn’t want to just leave and abandon her post. Even though there were staff in the restaurant, it was the first day of business, and she didn’t feel completely at ease leaving.

Anne Sutton and Nathan Fawcett took Ian and headed home first.

On the way, Nathan Fawcett noticed Anne Sutton sitting quietly beside him, barely saying a word. He asked, "What did Caleb Summers say to you?"

Anne Sutton played dumb. "He didn’t say anything."

’This guy...’

’It’s like he’s planted a tracking device on me!’

Nathan Fawcett said, "Don’t lie to me. You’ve barely spoken since you came back with him. If you have any questions, you can ask me directly. You don’t have to go through Caleb Summers."
