Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune

Chapter 328: I’ll Personally Deliver It to Her After We Eat

Nathan Fawcett looked at her. "I’m serious! If you don’t believe me, ask Ian."

Ian was holding Anne Sutton’s hand with one of his, and Nathan Fawcett’s with the other.

Hearing Nathan, he looked up at him. "What about Ian?"

Nathan said, "Tell your mommy, before she came, did I ever argue with your grandma?"

"No," Ian said. "Daddy used to be so obedient! Now he’s just like Ian, always making Grandma mad."

"..." Anne looked at the little guy. "How do you make your grandma mad?"

Ian said, "When Grandma won’t let me see Mommy, I get sad. And when I’m sad, I misbehave."

"Pfft..." Anne said. "You’re something else, saying you misbehave so matter-of-factly."

Ian looked at her and grinned. "Mommy, Ian will try his best not to make you mad in the future!"

Anne said, "Okay, okay!"

Once in the car, Anne looked at her son, then said to Nathan, "I don’t know how you raised him to be like this. He’s so thoughtful!"

Nathan glanced at his son. "He probably takes after you. Considerate and gentle."

Anne’s lips twitched. "Are you talking about me?"

"Who else?" Nathan said. "No need to be modest."

"You’re getting more and more shameless!" Anne laughed. "Not a single true word comes out of your mouth."

Nathan said, "Which part wasn’t true!"

"You never used to compliment me like this. To be honest, I’m still not used to you praising me."

Nathan looked at her. "So what, you want me to yell at you instead?"

"I’d rather not!" Anne shot him a look. "Back when you were always yelling at me, I just wished you’d drop dead! I used to think, if it weren’t for the family fortune, I wouldn’t be at home putting up with your crap. I only tolerated you for your money."

"And now?" Nathan gazed at her, his eyes full of tenderness.

Anne said, "Now... now that you’ve given me the Fawcett Family assets, I owe you one. Beggars can’t be choosers, so I have to at least put on an act, right?"

"Putting on an act?" Back at home, as Anne lay in bed, she realized Nathan was still thinking about what she’d said.

He pressed down on top of her, looked at her, and said, "Is this also just an act?"

Seeing him so close, Anne remembered what he’d done to her last night.

She cleared her throat and said, "Um, I was just kidding. You really hold a grudge, don’t you!"

’Holy crap!’

’Am I going to die in this bed?’

’Dammit!’

Back when his health was poor, she used to worry he’d die in bed one day!

Now things had flipped. She no longer worried about him, but about her own survival.

Nathan said, "Then tell me properly. Right now, what do you feel for me?"

Anne looked at him without speaking.

Nathan said, "Are you going to tell me or not?"

"I’ll talk, I’ll talk!" Anne begged for mercy. "I like you a lot right now! But I’m only talking about this very moment! Maybe I won’t like you tomorrow. After all, a man with a big... I mean, a man who’s magnanimous... and dotes on me all day... any woman would be moved to have someone take care of her like this, wouldn’t you agree?"

Watching her try so desperately to explain herself, Nathan said, "You let the truth slip out by accident, but I like what I heard."

’What man wouldn’t like that kind of compliment?’

「...」

The next morning, Anne didn’t wake up until after ten, and only because Ian came to get her.

She hadn’t fallen asleep until nearly dawn, and now she still felt limp lying in bed.

"Damn that Nathan Fawcett!"

She gritted her teeth, sat up, and asked, "Where’s your dad?"

"He went next door."

"What for?" Anne asked, confused.

Ian said, "He said he had to see Little Caleb about something."

"Little Caleb," of course, was Caleb Summers.

Every time Ian saw Caleb Summers, he refused to call him by his proper name.

Anne didn’t know why, either.

She went to wash up, changed her clothes, and went downstairs.

She saw that Nathan had returned.

Anne was a little surprised not to see Caleb Summers at this hour. "Isn’t Caleb coming over to eat?"

Mrs. Sutton had already cooked a meal at home.

She was preparing to open her shop recently, so she was trying out all sorts of dishes.

Anne, Caleb Summers, and the little foodie Ian were her official taste testers.

Nathan said, "He said he’s busy and can’t come for lunch."

Anne said, "You didn’t bully him, did you?"

She had a feeling that his special trip over to Caleb’s place was for no good reason.

Nathan smiled. "I’m not that kind of person. Don’t worry."

During lunch, Anne looked at her mother and asked, "Mom, have you decided about the shop?"

She and Nathan had gotten home late last night, so she hadn’t had a chance to ask.

Mrs. Sutton said, "I have. Caleb and I worked out most of the details last night. We decided to book it today, and once that’s done, we can have someone start renovations."

Now that she had something to do, Mrs. Sutton no longer spent her days crying over that scumbag Sean Sutton like before.

Seeing her mother like this, Anne breathed a sigh of relief.

Anne said to Nathan, "Why don’t you call Caleb over?"

"No need."

Nathan said, "I’ll go with you to see the shop today. I’ll help your mother arrange the rest. He’s not needed."

"Do you really have to target him like this?"

Nathan said, "Don’t be fooled by his decent looks. He’s not a good person! He’s the kind of guy whose own father wants to beat him up. You should stay away from him."

’Thinking about all the shitty things Caleb Summers had done in the past...’

’If he weren’t part of the company, Nathan wouldn’t want anything to do with him!’

Anne said, "Oh? What did he do?"

"I’ll tell you later." It wasn’t appropriate to discuss such things in front of Mrs. Sutton.

After lunch, Nathan went with Anne and Mrs. Sutton to look at the shop. The butler went along, too, and they even decided on a design style.

Nathan arranged for people to help Mrs. Sutton handle everything.

Mrs. Sutton was now completely focused on her project and was full of excitement, so she didn’t return with Anne and Nathan.

Anne and Nathan went home first.

「...」

Back at home, Anne took a shower and then prepared some food for herself and the Fawcett father and son.

She looked at Nathan and said, "Your mother didn’t call you today, did she?"

"No." Nathan looked at her and asked, "What’s wrong? You don’t miss her, do you?"

"I’m worried she isn’t eating well at home by herself," Anne said. "Didn’t she say she has a poor appetite? Do you want to have someone send this soup over to her? When I cooked before, I noticed she seemed to really like my food."

Nathan looked at Anne. "Don’t you dislike her?"

"Even if I don’t, she’s still your mother, isn’t she?" Anne, wearing her apron, stood in front of Nathan and looked at him. "Without your mother, you wouldn’t be standing here in front of me, we wouldn’t have Ian, and we wouldn’t have any of this. She’s overbearing, yes, but she saved you!"

On this point, Anne was very clear-headed.

Hearing Anne’s words, Nathan leaned down and kissed her on the cheek. "I’ll take it to her myself after we eat."
