Chapter 230: Chapter 230

Gushex informed Dron about all that was going on with Rynax.

Dron would probably never say it out loud, but it was such a relief to know that, at that moment, Rynax was through the worst of the illness and was on his way to recovery.

Moments later, both Aliq and Gerax came to speak with Dron as well.

Gerax nearly had a panic attack when Dron let him know there were other ailments that the humans may have that could be transferred to the Usteans.

It wasn’t until Dron informed him that he could probably use the same medical treatments Gerax and Aliq had concocted to battle the measles outbreak to make sure that the others didn’t succumb to any other diseases.

Dron didn’t want to worry about it too much. If it came down to it, at least they knew what they had to do.

Once everyone finished talking to Dron about what was going on with Rynax, they transitioned to what was happening with the other people on the ship. Both the Usteans and the Earthlings.

For some reason, the illness managed to bring the group even closer together.

There were rumors of several alphas looking to mate with some of the humans. It seemed as if everyone was in perfect peace, living together on these ships.

That is where the problem lay.

"What do we need to go up against the High Royals for?" Gushex questioned.

"What do you mean, why? That was the whole point of this."

"I heard that was the whole point when all of this started, but wasn’t the end goal for everyone to live in peace? Even if we go up against the High Royals and win, it would be countless moon cycles of hostility and war. It would be never-ending, as is the war between Thraqe and the Forbidden Lands. Right now, we have exactly what we all want."

Dron’s mouth opened, and he was speechless for a moment. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing or the fact that Gushex wasn’t the only one who seemed to agree with this.

"Are you telling me that you would have us give up when we are so close?" Dron sneered at the man.

"I’m telling you that there aren’t as many people on this ship as there once were, and the ones that are on the ship are worse off than they once were. I’m also telling you that there is no one here who has anything to prove." Gushex pulled his shoulders back and stared Dron down.

Dron’s alpha instincts flared up. He had tried his best to keep calm and a level head, but he couldn’t ignore what he was picking up from Gushex.

A challenge.

Dron took a step forward.

"No, we’re not going to give up. We can’t stay out here on the water forever. You’re not thinking about the long term."

"I am thinking of the long term. Most of you may not know how to hide away in the wilderness, but the tribes you conquered do. Me and my people could show you exactly what you need to do to survive."

"What makes you think I can’t show them what they need to do to survive? This isn’t about survival. This is about being able to thrive," Dron retorted.

"Thrive? Is this truly what you think thriving looks like?" Gushex scoffed and looked Dron up and down.

"Of course not. Not right now, but once we get to Thraqe and stake our claim..."

"That’s just what we think the issue is," Aliq started up. Dron growled at him before he could continue with what he was about to say.

It didn’t stop Aliq from talking, but instead just caused him to lower his voice slightly.

"As I was saying, that is the issue. The people on the ship no longer feel like we have a claim to stake. They wanted to be free and happy. They wanted to be able to live a life that the High Royals had deemed they were unfit for. Now that they have gotten closer with the humans, and the humans with them, they can have what they’ve always wanted. Why fight for something that they already have?"

Dron shook his head. They didn’t understand. Things were peaceful now. People were happy and could see a future, but they were forgetting the past. They were forgetting exactly what the High Royals could do.

Dron wouldn’t.

He couldn’t.

If he allowed himself to become complacent, there was still a chance that he could lose everything.

On top of that, Dron couldn’t get what Mikael had said out of his mind.

He didn’t want to be someone who just ignored the problems going on around him.

That was exactly what this little crew was asking him to do. They wanted him to take the win in front of their faces instead of the win they could have in the future.

"No, we are not going to quit." Dron shook his head and tried to walk around Gushex. He wouldn’t entertain this line of questioning anymore.

Gushex put a hand out and stopped Dron from moving.

Dron stared down at the hand on his chest.

If there was any doubt that Gushex was challenging him, there was none now.

"Get your hand off me," Dron snarled at the man.

"Not until you listen to reason."

"And who exactly is going to make me listen to reason?"

"Moon Goddess above, we don’t need this now," Gerax spoke up, but in the same instance, he took a step back. He wasn’t dumb enough to get in between two alphas spiraling into their alpha instincts.

"I won’t tell you again. If you don’t remove your hand from my chest, I’m going to rip it off your body."

"I’d like to see you try, my cursed king." Gushex sneered at Dron.

Dron’s ears rang.

He didn’t want to be called a king, and he definitely never wanted to be called cursed again. Gushex knew this. He was baiting Dron.

Dron could see it. He didn’t care.

If Gushex wanted to fight... he would get one.

Less than a breath passed between the time Gushex said those words and Dron rushing him.
