———

When Harry saw the available skills listed by the system, he was shocked because he had heard of them. However, not as skills but as spells.

Lightning whip was a tier two spell, lightning strike was a tier-three spell while the other skills like Lightning ball and Lightning dash were common tier one spells used by stage one Elementalists and they are all quite expensive.

Spells were classified according to their power and mana consumption into tiers. There were eight known spells tiers from tier-one to tier eight spells.

The tier one spells could only be used by stage one Elementalists and above, while the tier two spells could only be used by stage two Elementalists and above. The higher the tier, the higher the stage and minimum mana needed to perform them.

Tier one spells were very common as most people have developed their mana core stage up to stage one.

Tier two spells were also quite common but the more powerful ones were quite expensive.

Spells from tier four to tier six were very expensive and could only be gotten from the AMO. As for the tier seven and eight spells, they were extremely rare as there were only a few grand mages and supreme grand mages on earth.

“Lightning strike.” he called out, though he had already known about the use of the skill since it was quite self-explanatory from the name alone. He still decided to see the system’s explanation.

————

[Lightning Strike]

-Level 1

-Call forth a bolt of lightning from the sky.

———-

Harry was really excited when he saw the skill’s description, he hurriedly got up from his bed as he wanted to try out the skill.

[Host is advised not to test out the skill Lightning strike now because of Host’s current location.]

Harry heard the system voice of warning in his head. “Locat… yeah it’ll destroy this foolish house.” he muttered to himself in realization.

He got carried away because he wanted to try out a new skill that also happened to be a powerful tier-three spell, he couldn’t be blamed though, who wouldn’t want to try a skill like that?

“I guess I’ll just try it later.” he muttered to himself while trying to calm his fast beating heart.

‘So to try the skill… all I need to do is will it right?’ Harry said inwardly. Since the system could read his mind, he found it easier to simply talk to the system through his thoughts, rather than his mouth.

[Yes. In order to activate a skill, all the host needs to do is to will it.]

Just as he expected, the system read his mind and gave a reply to his question.

Harry then tried to clear his mind as he imagined using the skill ‘Lightning whip.’

He didn’t find the need to check the system’s description as the skill was already self-explanatory. It was also quite popular among students in the academy so Harry knew that the skill was all about conjuring a whip made purely with Lightning.

He clenched his right fist as he imagined the whip forming in his middle of his fist. A few seconds later, he felt something rising within his palm. 𝒃𝙚𝙤𝙫𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝙢

He slowly opened his eyes and looked at his hand, in the middle of his clenched fists was a long whip made purely with Lightning. It was one and a half meters long and also had a bright light blue colour. It made slight cackling sounds as the lightning danced brilliantly around it.

As he looked at the one and a half meter Lightning whip, he was sure of one thing; the system was definitely real! All the doubts he had about it cleared, he could not just see the proof of the system’s reality but could also feel it.

Harry moved the Lightning whip slightly, he didn’t apply too much force to his movements for the fear of causing any damage to his surroundings.

[—5 energy points]

A new notification suddenly appeared in front of him.

“Energy points…” he muttered. He remembered seeing ‘energy’ in his host stats and had some hypothesis on its use.

[Energy points are removed when the host used a skill, the host energy pool is very low. The host is advised to increase his energy pool by rising in levels]

“So that’s what it’s used for… just like elemental mages can’t cast spells when they run out of mana. They would need to draw and store new ones, mine is energy pool. It’s only fifteen now, the system’s right… it’s pitifully low. But at least I could increase it by leveling up.” Harry muttered. He made a mental note to find a way to easily level up.

“For now, I’ll try the other skills.” He muttered. He unactivated the Lightning whip by simply using his will.

He then closed his eyes and imagined using the next skill ‘Lightning dash’. This skill was very common, every Lightning Elementalists in the academy had this spell.

The name itself made it self-explanatory, It was a skill focused on boosting one’s speed using Lightning.

[Lightning Dash]

-Level 1

-Use the power of Lightning to boost your speed temporarily.

He felt a strange tingle run through his body, his body seemed very Light.

Everything around him also slowed down, it seemed like the world was in slow motion. His eyes also became sharper as Lightning flickered within them, his vision span got wider and he was able to see everything a lot clearer than before.

Lightning flashed in his eyes, Lightning also danced around his body, it started from his hands and legs before rapidly moving up to his shoulders.

The Lightning around his body didn’t hurt him at all, rather, he found it very refreshing. It felt as if his whole body was submerged into warm water, it it was up to him, he would keep the skill active forever. Unfortunately, his energy is too low for that.

“Wow…. this is so… cool.” he marveled while looking at his hands as they cackled with Lightning. He was barely holding back the urge to run around the house, if possible, around the city.

[-3 energy points]

The system’s notification brought him out of his imagination.

Harry reluctantly cancelled the skill to preserve energy.

When the refreshing feeling of having Lightning dancing around his body stopped, he felt a slight sense of loss.

“I should focus on the last skill, I can’t waste my energy on one skill.” he muttered to himself. Just by testing two skills, his energy was down to seven points, this made him realize something; his energy was pitifully low. He couldn’t even engage in combat with his current capabilities, that only gave him one option—level up and get stronger.

“Lightning ball.”

————

[Lightning Ball]

-Level 1

-Form a ball of lightning above your hand. The size can be increased depending on the amount of energy used.

———

“Even though this spell is very common, i still find it very useful.” he muttered to himself.

Harry then tried to activate the skill using his imagination, except this time, he didn’t close his eyes.

He looked at his palm as he imagined the Lightning ball forming above his palm.

He watched as lightning slowly spiraled above his palm, it gradually increased in size. It became as large as a soccer ball before the size finally stopped increasing.

According to the system, he should be able to increase the size and density of the ball by infusing more energy into it. All he needed to do was find a way to increase the energy placed in the ball.

[—2 Energy points]

Another notification came from the system, reminding him of his dwindling energy.

He hurriedly stopped the skill, although he would love to keep his skills activated for a longer period of time, he knew wasting his energy just on testing skills was a very careless move.

Unbeknownst to Harry that even a stage three Elementalist couldn’t cast spells as fast as he was activating his skills.

Only those with stage four mana core and above could cast skills with their imagination. Low-tier spells would have been engraved into their mana core so chanting the spell would be unnecessary for them. So the speed at which Harry activate skills could be compared to a stage three Elementalist.

“I finally have an affinity… and it’s not just any affinity. it’s one of the rarest and most versatile ones, the Lightning affinity. Through this system, I could even gain all affinities… the wait was really worth it.” Harry muttered.

He laid down on the cold hard floor of his room as he reminisced about his life up till now.
