Chapter 55 Stunted Progress
He had already expected that the skill levels would be too low to scan someone on the level of an Instructor, however, he still found it quite disappointing.
He turned his head towards one of the students meditating besides him.
Although his ‘Probe’ skill was too low to scan the Instructor, Harry was sure that it should be more than enough to scan Elementalists that were barely at the first mana core stage.
He activated the skill inwardly while focusing on that particular student.

A strange expression flashed through Harry’s eyes as he read through the students stats and information. ‘His name sounds quite strong and domineering for an extra.’ He mumbled inwardly.
The stats format of the student was quite similar to Harry’s stats before his evolution, with the only difference being the absence of “race” and game terms like EXP, level and stats points.
Meanwhile, Jason—the one Harry was ‘scanning’ with his skill—felt a weird prickling sensation around his body. He felt as if he was naked and… exposed to the world. A slight tinge of red crept up his cheeks as he kept trying to maintain focus.
Harry canceled the skill as he had already read through all the stats, he was quite impressed by the skill and couldn’t help but wonder how strong its ‘scanning’ would become in the later levels.
Immediately Harry cancelled the skill, the strange prickling sensation around Jason also disappeared, making him heave a sigh of relief.
Harry slowly got up. His whole body felt slightly cramped due to the fact that he had literally been sitting in one position for about two hours, a low grunt left his lips as he made a few stretches.
He walked over to the other end of the room and then handed over the crystal to the instructor who simply replied with a gentle smile.
Harry smiled back, however, his smile appeared quite awkward as he still wasn’t used to people acting this nice to him. Most of the times, he didn’t always know how to react and would simply smile or nod his head.
He then turned around and left the room. A low sigh left his lips as he thought about the other things he would still have to do in the academy.
While channeling mana out of his body didn’t really affect him physically, it was a different case mentally.
Though he would like nothing more than to rest and relax his mind, he still had to attend his classes in the lecture hall.
Most Elementalists in the academy were lackadaisical in that aspect, however, Harry still kept on attending his ‘normal’ classes and lectures.
??
Harry collapsed on his bed as he exhaled tiredly.
A complicated expression flashed through his eyes as he stared at the quest information in front of him.

Although the past few weeks had been quite boring and repetitive, Harry still didn’t forget the system’s quest for him to comprehend an affinity.
He hadn’t made much progress in the quest completion, according to the other voice, he had to perfectly understand an element in order to comprehend it.
When it came to ‘perfectly understanding elements’, the first element that came to his mind was the fire element.
When he was younger, before he took the affinity test, he had always dreamt of himself as a powerful fire Elementalist.
He often dreamt of himself casting powerful fire spells and bringing down powerful enemies with the help of the fire element, however, all that was shattered by the harsh reality of him not having an affinity.
Harry chose to first try comprehending the fire element due to the ‘connection’ he felt with it when he was younger.
He bought a lot of books related to the fire affinity and element and even some related to fire itself.
Unfortunately he wasn’t able to make more than five percent progress on the quest.
When the quest information first changed and the term “quest progress” was added to it, Harry felt very happy.
However that happiness was short-lived as the little progress got stunted. Although this made Harry feel disappointed, he was also a little glad as progress was still progress, no matter how little it was.
His understanding of the element did increase by leaps and bounds, unfortunately, it seemed the system only considered it as surface level knowledge—which it was in a way—so the quest progress only increased a little.
He had even tried meditating in front of a burning flame to see if that could spark a connection between him and the fire element.
His thoughts process was that perhaps by doing this, his comprehension of the element would increase. Unfortunately, that also failed.
Though he still had about five months to complete the quest, Harry planned on completing it between three to four months.
Back then, when he absorbed the beast core, he got a lot of bonus rewards and EXP for completing some hidden quests before the deadline.
He felt that he could perhaps get another bonus reward from this quest he completing it long before the deadline.
However, with his extremely slow progress, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to complete the quest before five months, talk-less of three months.
Even though, his progress was very slow and stunted, he still didn’t give up. He knew giving up on the quest meant his stats would drop by fifty percent, so that alone was enough to steel his heart and make him remain focused.
He closed the system tab and then exhaled. A low rumbling sound suddenly rang out from his stomach.
Harry lightly clutched his stomach as a wry smile appeared on his face. Except from the snack he bought in the morning, he hadn’t eaten any other food till now.
‘I should get something to eat…’ Harry mumbled inwardly as he slowly got up from his bed.
