Manaless Mage

Chapter 38 Mana Core Illusion

This had always been Harry’s plan since the day he got the system. The only reason he was registered as a normal student was his inability to draw mana, now that he could use ‘spells’, nothing was holding him back from becoming an ‘Elementalist’.

Not only would registering as an Elementalist give him the freedom to use his affinity skills but it would also greatly assist him in levelling them up.

However, there was also a little problem with his plan on becoming an Elementalist—his mana core foundation was still shattered.

As a ‘Manaless Mage’, he still didn’t have a foundation, he would have to find a way to convince the academy that he had a foundation and was also able to draw mana.

A strange gleam suddenly flashed through his eyes as he sat up. He forgot before but he did have a skill that might be able to assist him in his plight.

The skill ‘Mana core illusion’, he hadn’t paid much attention to the skill since he wasn’t ready to use it, but now, it was time to use the skill as he planned on stepping into the path of Elementalists. The skill would help in hiding his identity as a Manaless mage.

The name itself was quite self-explanatory.

According to the system’s description of the skill, it would create a fake mana core for him, making other mages think he had a mana core.

‘If it could create a mana core illusion… doesn’t that mean it would also create a fake foundation.’ Harry thought. It was common knowledge that a mana core couldn’t exist without a solid foundation so it was only natural the skill created a fake foundation along with it.

A slight grimace appeared on his face as he thought about this, he still didn’t know how the skill worked. He didn’t know the mana core stage the skill will set for him, or if it was based on his will—he hoped it was the latter.

‘System… how exactly does mana core illusion work?’ Harry asked the system.

[The Skill ‘Mana Core Illusion’ can be described as an active skill and passive skill]

Harry’s brows creased slightly when he heard the system’s words.

[It is a skill that develops on its own and could only be activated by the Host’s will]

The frown on Harry’s face deepened, the system’s words were too vague for him to fully understand.

He understood the latter part about the skill being activated on his will, however, the former part about it being able to develop on its own was really confusing.

What did the system mean by “develops on its own” did it mean it could get more powerful on its own…?

‘Develop on its own in what manner?’ Harry asked the system. He had to make sure he understood the skill properly before even trying to register an Elementalist, he didn’t want to make any unnecessary mistakes. 𝐞𝗼𝘃𝐞𝐥.𝗰𝐨𝗺

‘Why can’t the system just make explanations easier to understand?’ Harry mumbled inwardly.

[The skill creates a fake mana core for you. It creates this ‘mana core’ from the scratch. Although the mana core is simply an illusion, it would still develop from the foundation like a normal Elementalist would.]

A strange glint flashed through Harry’s eyes as he heard the familiar voice in his head.

It wasn’t the system that replied this time but the ‘other voice’. By now, he already knew the difference between the system’s emotionless robotic voice and the other voice which sounded more human.

He found this quite surprising as the other voice hardly answered his questions, it just spoke once in a while then vanished for a few days again.

However, Harry couldn’t be less bothered about that. Unlike the system’s very vague explanation, the other voice’s explanation was quite understandable.

Harry now understood the skill better.

[The reason the system said it could be described as an active and passive skill was that the ‘mana core’ keeps developing on its own—right from the foundation. But no one would be able to sense or see it unless you activate it.]

The other voice continued its explanation.

Harry nodded his head slightly in understanding. So it practically worked like a mana core, except it doesn’t require mana and it was only an illusion.

‘So I can’t set the mana core stage with my will right?’ Harry asked the other voice.

[Yes Host. However, the illusion development speed gets faster as the Host level up]

“Tsk…” A wry smile appeared on Harry’s face when he noticed the other voice went silent again.

Unlike his conversations with the system which felt more or less like talking with a robot, his conversations with the other voice seemed more human.

Although he felt somehow bad that he couldn’t set the skill’s ‘mana core stage’ at will, it was still a good skill that would save him from a lot of trouble.

‘Doesn’t this mean this fake mana core has been developing since I got the system?’ Harry said inwardly.

According to the system, the skill developed on its own so that probably meant it had been developing since he got the system which was also when he got the skill.

[Yes Host. The skill has been developing since the day the Host for the system. However, it still hasn’t reached the first stage yet.]

Harry sighed in relief when he heard the system’s words. If his fake mana core stage was too high, it could affect his plans negatively.

From the system’s words, the illusion hadn’t developed to the first stage yet so it was still a foundation.

‘It is better I complete everything as soon as possible… now that I have nothing holding me back.’ Harry mumbled inwardly.
