Manaless Mage

Chapter 138 Nostalgia??

Chapter 138 Nostalgia??

[Author’s note: I edited chapter 137, the name shown on Harry’s status is no longer “Harry Morton” but “Harry Ainsworth”. Also, chapter 138 and 139 have been fixed. And you can now read it freely.]

As for the main thing on his mind right now, it was the ranking competition which was starting today.

One thing that made him feel especially happy about his stats was the fact that the name “Morton” no longer reflected on his name.

Finally, his name change had been completed. As for the name he now bared, it was “Harry Ainsworth”.

The name “Ainsworth” wasn’t one he chose because of any deep reason. It was actually suggested to him by the other voice, and for some reason, he found it suitable, especially since it had a nice ring to it and sounded cool compared to “Morton”.

The changing process took an annoyingly long time.

He had to provide a lot of documents before it could be completed, and since he had no connections, he more or less did it all on his own.

The fact that he had already spent up to five years in the academy under the name “Morton” also added to the delay. š—¼š˜ƒš—¹.š—¼š«š—“

He had to submit his academy ID card and documents, and all the names had finally been changed.

The principal didn’t say anything even after finding out about his name change, but to his surprise, the one who approached him about it was Trent.

Well, “approached” wasn’t exactly the right word as they only happened to cross paths in one of the lecture hallways.

It seemed like Trent somehow found out that he changed his nameā€”to be honest, it wasn’t even that hard to find outā€”and he came to him about a week ago.

He seemed really furious, going on and on about how Harry was trash and didn’t even deserve the name “Morton” in the first place.

Harry was quite surprised by this, after all, Trent had been totally indifferent to him during his stay in the academy.

He had even expected Trent to attack him, but it seemed like Trent wasn’t that stupid and only ranted before leaving him alone.

‘I wonder why that got him so mad in the first place.’ Harry thought with a slight frown on his face.

Ever since he moved out of his parents house, they never even bothered to look for him, or even try to find out where he was now living.

His supposed father and mother simply ignored his existence and treated him like a ghost that had finally left.

While he didn’t like to admit it, seeing as his parents didn’t even bother to look for him even after he literally moved out of their house made him feel bad for sometime.

Although, he hadn’t planned on moving back to his parents’ house, he had still expected them to at least worry or try looking for him.

There were even times when he imagined the police suddenly showing up to his door and saying something like “Are you Harry Morton?”, but nothing like that ever happened.

This only cemented the fact he was formerly trying to avoid that his parents certainly didn’t care about him.

However, those feelings only lasted for a short time as he got over it and also ‘learned’ to also treat them like ghosts in his mind and memory also.

He simply learned to enjoy his life, and focus on the good things he had with him like the manaless mage system.

Harry wasn’t sure, but for some reason, he felt like Trent was involved in this. After all, why else would the parents of a child simply be so unbothered that their child moved out of the house.

Even if they didn’t care about Harry, there was still the fact that their carelessness could catch the attention of the police and they would be arrested.

Trent probably told them something about it, and Harry was very sure that he exaggerated it and tried to make Harry seem like the bad guy in the whole story.

Despite that he was the untalented one, Trent always had this weird sense of inferiority and envy towards him since they were kids.

At first, it was just a little and didn’t really show, but it gradually increased.

It only got worse when it was discovered that Harry had a shattered mana core, and that Trent was a genius in magic, then all those feelings bottled up inside Trent exploded into hate.

And since then, all he had been doing was trying to get Harry on their parents’ bad side and he, on their good side.

As expected, his plan worked, especially due to the fact that their parents now saw him as the one who was meant to uplift the Morton family.

Trent awakened a high-grade water affinity and medium grade wind affinity, making it clear that he had the potential to become a very powerful grand mage in the future, while Harry was practically told he had no future.

His parents saw Trent as the star of the family, and Harry as the trash of the family, another thing that contributed to their terrible relationship.

At first, Harry tried to mend their relationship by trying to get closer to his brother, but each time, Trent would either land him in even more trouble or even attack him himself.

‘Trentā€¦ sometimes I really can’t understand that brother of mine.’ Harry thought with a wry smile on his face.

However, one thing that bothered him was that when Trent came to him few weeks ago, something about him just feltā€¦ different.

While Harry and Trent weren’t close anymore, Harry still had a somewhat good understanding of Trent’s character.

But that day, Trent didn’t seem quite like himself. While his actions were similar to what the usual Trent would do, it still felt like it was not Trent at the same time.

His angerā€¦ the words he usedā€¦ something just felt really off about it.

But Harry simply brushed it off his mind, he used [Probe] on Trent that day, and the skill didn’t find out anything odd about him.

Apart from that, the other voice didn’t say anything about it also. In fact, the other voice was quite most of the time during the past weeks, it only spoke on the day he completed the name change, but it’s words weren’t even clear then.

He simply ignored it, feeling that it was his own nostalgia from when he and Trent used to be close.
