Chapter 111 Near Death Experience
But now that he had finally completed his quest, there was nothing stopping him from venturing deeper into the forest!
Harry tapped on the watch given to him at the entrance, immediately, a holographic map popped up from it.
This map was a feature of the watch and of course, it was a map of the beast forest.
His own position showed as a small blinking red dots, and there were markings and demarcations to show the position of different type of mana beasts and their danger level.
The danger level was about their beast core stage and the estimated strength level of beasts around that area.
Though the danger level wasn’t fixed as even a stage one beast could turn out to be dangerous if it had a powerful trait.
Green markings and signs was for stage one mana beasts, yellow markings signified stronger mana beasts at the first stage.
Orange was for beasts at the second stage and red was for those at the third stage. Darker shades of the colour signified areas filled with more powerful beasts of the same stage.
The red areas were few and didn’t even make up to 20% of the map.
Harry had no plan of going to the places marked with red. He wasn’t stupid.
Though he was quite confident in his strength, he didn’t believe he could defeat a stage three mana beast just yet, especially with the fact that he planned on holding back by not using his more powerful skills like [Lightning Dash].
Stage three mana beasts were very powerful and dangerous, even the map marked the areas filled with then with red—a dangerous zone.
He had learnt about some stage three mana beasts in the academy, and with the astounding abilities he heard they possessed, Harry didn’t plan on going up against one… not yet at least.
He had met beasts like the horned rabbit and the scaled pig that had stats at the 80’s or 60’s.
Since stage three mana beasts would probably be thrice stronger than them, their stats would probably be in the range of 150-200, or even higher, Harry knew he wasn’t strong enough to handle them yet.
“Stage two mana beasts…” Harry mumbled, with his eyes observing the different orange demarcated parts of the map.
Suddenly, his eyes stopped at one of the areas demarcated with orange.
As he looked at it, his lips slowly curved into a smile.
The map was actually very useful, it didn’t just show the area but also spoke lengths about the topography and abiotic factors.
‘I feel a little stupid for not using this earlier…’ He mumbled inwardly.
Where his eyes locked on was the closest to his position, and that was where he was headed.
His heart started beating faster and his blood pumped up in joy, he immediately started following the map, feeling pumped up to finally face a stage two mana beast.
He also kept his eyes peeled and guard up since beasts could still attack him.
After a few minutes, Harry finally arrived at the area.
Though with the help of the map, he managed to escape most of the stage one beasts, he still came across a few that he had to take care of on his own.
He closed the map and focused completely on his surroundings, with no plans to make any mistake.
The trees here were a lot taller and thicker, casting a shadow that made the whole place darker.
As he kept walking, the first thing he noticed was the denser amount of mana around him.
Since [Mana sense] was a passive skill, he could still sense the mana in his surroundings even without putting his mind in it completely.
It wasn’t just dense though, it was also more erratic… and wild.
Suddenly, Harry’s felt a weird feeling at the back of his neck and paused.
‘Strange… what’s this ominous feeling?’ Harry mumbled inwardly, his heartbeat rising steadily with every step.
The deeper he went, the more he could feel this strange ominous pressure bear down on him.
Coupled with the weird scratching sensation at the back of his neck, Harry realised something.
‘Something… is watching me.’ He mumbled and his eyes suddenly turned cold.
‘Accelerate…’ Harry quickly activated his speed boost skill, feeling tbat something bad would happen if he didn’t.
He used his perception to the max while keeping his eyes peeled for anything strange that might appear.
Crack!
Just then, his ears picked up a low cracking sound from behind him.
The sound was so low that even he wouldn’t have noticed it nor for the fact that he was using his perception to the MAX. .
Harry immediately twisted his body and turned around.
‘Lightning Ball!’ Without even waiting to see what it was that made the sound he heard earlier, he stretched his hand and released the attack.
The moment he turned around, the first image Harry’s eyes met was that of a long cobra with two piercing black eyes.
Its tail was loosely coiled around a branch and its head was pointing towards Harry. The cobra’s hood was also spread out, with its mouth wide open, revealing a pair of sharp fangs.
The cobra didn’t give Harry enough time to observe before suddenly leaping forward, ready to attack.
At this point, Harry had launched the lightning ball and it was already rushing towards the snake with astonishing speed.
He couldn’t help but feel fortunate that he activated [Lightning Ball] when he did, his body had moved instinctively and before he even knew it, he had activated the skill.
If he had waited for even a second before activating the skill, then the snake’s fangs would have probably sunk into his skin by now.
The lightning attack collided with the snake midway, hitting it right in the mouth, and causing a small explosion of lightning.
Since Harry was quite close to the beast, he also felt the effect of the lightning ball a little. He let out a slight grunt while managing to keep his eyes on the mana beast.
Screech!
The cobra wailed as the lightning attack pushed it back. Since it was hit while in the air, its whole body fell to the ground with force.
Seeing as the snake fell to the ground, Harry immediately jumped back, to create more distance between them.
When it came to reach, it was safe to say the cobra had more advantage due to its longer body.
