Adric lay naked in bed as Becca dozed on his chest, her snores only a light whistling.  Guess he’d tired her out, leaving him trapped. Not the first girl who found him a convenient pillow. This would be so much easier if he could actually sleep. Be it a consequence of his return or fear he’d never wake up again.

He let his finger trace the slightly more pronounced ear of his date. Harmony didn’t approve. She didn’t forbid it, but she didn’t approve. Such a hypocrite considering how most other people fall over themselves to get her attention, or walk into walls because she distracts them. She probably thought everyone was ridiculously clumsy both socially and physically. He certainly wasn’t going to be the one to give her “the talk.”

[Primal Awareness] had his master working in her new lab. That single-minded focus on research, as she poked and prodded dead things. Having visited the hole once had been enough. No windows, eerie glow stone lights, a metal box hidden in the ground with specialized magic to clean the air. Like that wasn’t a warning she was making deals with sketchy people to have a hidden secure lair.  It’s not like she cared he didn’t approve.

Not that she was a bad primal bond partner. He got to do exciting things, see the world, even if he was forced to take classes, ugh. She was probably better to him than he was to Bowe. Dying like an idiot had been the worst for his sweet coatl.

Bowe, in his miniature form, tangled with Marshmallow in a makeshift arena created out of pink cushions, both sparring silently so as not to wake the woman. He loved the gift of being small and able to practice combat against a variety of opponents. A big dragon didn’t have much to fight against. A big dragon had a hard time getting around and had to stay in specialty lodging.  The multi-colored monster chomped down on the black tentacle restraining him, forcing it to let go; nothing serious. This was a dance of tactics with both holding back; they tangled on the ground until both took to the air with a flash of wings and clashed again.

At least someone had entertainment. Becca was a light enough sleeper he couldn’t slip away easily.  But even men of action needed to make sacrifices even as he vibrated inside. Not doing meant being forced to contend with your thoughts.

What am I? Who  Am I? How many rolls can I fit in my mouth? The last time was twelve. Becca’s odd soul bits are vibrating against me; why did Harmony have to point those out?

“Ow!”  The exclamation caused Becca to flop away, her whistling snoring now into her pink frilly pillow.

Those bits had jabbed into him, leaving a pinprick of blood. Oh, it took more than that. What did Harmony call it, soul and container? The last time a girl had been so intimately inside of him had been when he’d taken in Saccerate. Harmony wouldn’t like this. Becca would fall over herself apologizing. Girl drama, run.

Bowe noticed, sending him an admonishing look mid-fight, only to get a face full of black, inky tentacles for his distraction.

If he worried about every bit of blood, fluid, or piece of himself he left across town, he’d be way too stressed out. Mary and her weird trophies, or Kara and her bloody claw marks, never mind what Harm did with her collections.  Why was he craving rolls?

Hops Buns was open early, and Betty worked there. Free, Adric slid out of bed and started to hunt for his pants.
