Devara eventually reached the ceremonial stage, where the atmosphere became noticeably more solemn despite the celebration continuing throughout the arena.

The musicians gradually softened their performance as he climbed the decorated steps and took his place before the sacred yaga that had been prepared for the marriage.

The sacrificial fire burned steadily within the altar, its flames rising and falling gently as fragrant offerings were placed into it, filling the air with the scent of sandalwood, ghee and sacred herbs.

Devara sat before the yaga in the place prepared for the groom, his magnificent wedding attire making him appear almost otherworldly beneath the golden light of the lamps.

The jewels gifted to him by Goddess Lakshmi shimmered whenever the flames moved, while the royal ornaments upon him reflected the ceremonial lights scattered around the stage.

The arrangements had been made specifically for the unusual nature of the marriage.

Yami and Indhumati would both be seated beside him, one on either side, as the wedding rituals progressed.

Their places had been prepared beside Devara, decorated with flowers and auspicious designs so that both brides could participate equally in the sacred ceremony.

On one side of the yaga sat the sage who had been entrusted with conducting the marriage rituals.

He sat before the sacred fire with the composure of someone who had performed countless ceremonies, though even he understood that this particular wedding was unlike any ceremony he had ever conducted.

Before him were the necessary vessels, sacred grains, flowers, ghee and other offerings arranged carefully according to the rituals.

He began chanting the ancient mantras, his voice carrying clearly through the arena.

The musicians gradually fell silent.

The dancers withdrew from the ceremonial area.

Even the thousands of citizens who had been celebrating moments earlier became quiet as they watched the sacred ritual begin.

Devara looked toward the empty places beside him.

Soon, Yami and Indhumati would take their seats there.

One was the daughter of Surya Dev and goddess of the sacred Yamuna.

The other was the princess whom he had known and loved through the mortal world.

And today, both would become his wives before their families, their kingdom and the divine guests who had gathered to bless their union.

Devara’s expression softened as he looked toward the entrance of the ceremonial arena.

The sacred fire crackled quietly before him.

The sage continued chanting.

And the entire royal arena waited for the arrival of the two brides.

As Devara settled before the sacred yaga, he could feel the presence of his mothers standing behind him.

Ganga and Bhudevi had been watching everything with quiet pride, their eyes following their son as the wedding preparations moved toward the most important part of the ceremony.

Devara glanced back at them and gently called,

"Mother Ganga... Mother Bhudevi."

Both goddesses looked toward him.

Seeing that he wanted to speak privately, they stepped closer.

Ganga bent down slightly and leaned forward so that she could hear him over the soft chanting of the sage and the distant murmuring of the enormous crowd, while Bhudevi stood beside her, equally attentive.

Devara lowered his voice.

"There is something I wanted to ask you both before the rituals begin."

Ganga smiled.

"What is it, child?"

Devara hesitated for a moment before looking toward the place where his divine parents were seated among the guests, their true forms concealed from the mortal citizens.

"Can Lakshmi Mata and Vishnu Bhagavan take part in the rituals as my mother and father?"

Both Ganga and Bhudevi looked at him carefully.

Devara continued before they could respond.

"I know that I am the son of all three Trimurtis and their consorts and most importantly your son. I know that all of them have their own place in my life, and I would never want any of them to feel that I am choosing one over another. But..."

He paused, his expression becoming softer.

"Vishnu Bhagavan and Lakshmi Mata have never had the opportunity to experience their child’s wedding. They are my parents too, and I know how much this day means to them."

He glanced toward Vishnu and Lakshmi again.

"Lord Shiva and Mother Parvati have experienced the joy of seeing their children grow and enter different stages of life. Brahma Bhagavan and Saraswati Mata have also had that experience. But Vishnu Bhagavan and Lakshmi Mata..."

His voice became quieter.

"I am their only child. Even though Vishnu Bhagavan’s avatars have had children in their individual lives, he and Lakshmi Mata have never had a child together in their divine existence."

"So they have never had the chance to sit beside their child during a wedding ceremony, to perform those rituals as parents, to give their blessings and experience that happiness."

Ganga’s expression softened immediately.

Bhudevi looked at Devara with the same understanding.

Devara gave a small smile.

"I know everyone here is my family. I simply thought that, for this ceremony, I should give them the chance to experience something they have never been able to experience before. If they are willing, I would like them to perform the parental rituals for me."

For a moment neither goddess spoke.

Then Ganga gently placed her hand upon her son’s head.

"Devara,"

She said warmly,

"you did not need to explain yourself so much."

Bhudevi smiled.

"We understand."

Ganga nodded her head.

"You have never treated your parents as separate from one another. You have always considered us all your family. If this is what your heart wishes, then why would we object?"

Bhudevi added softly,

"Today is your wedding. Your mothers and fathers should all have a place in it according to the relationship you share with them. If Vishnu and Lakshmi have never had this joy before, then let them have it today."

Devara’s expression immediately brightened.

"Truly?"

Ganga smiled at him.

"Truly."

Bhudevi gently touched his cheek.

"Go and bring your parents into the ritual. We will gladly stand beside them and share this moment with them."

Devara smiled, the tension that had been hiding behind his eyes finally disappearing.

"Thank you, Mothers."

Ganga and Bhudevi exchanged a knowing smile.

They understood what their son was trying to give Vishnu and Lakshmi.

Not a title. Not a privilege.

But a memory.

A memory that two parents who had watched their only child grow would finally be able to cherish forever.

Not far from the ceremonial stage, the Trimurtis and their consorts had been standing together, watching the preparations for the wedding.

Though the eyes of the mortal citizens could not perceive their true divine forms, the gods themselves could see everything taking place around the sacred fire.

The quiet conversation between Devara, Ganga and Bhudevi had therefore not escaped them.

Lakshmi had initially been listening casually, her attention fixed upon her son as he sat before the yaga. But the moment she heard Devara’s request, she became completely still.

He wanted her and Vishnu to take the place of his parents during the marriage rituals.

For a few heartbeats, Lakshmi simply stared at Devara.

Her eyes slowly reddened.

She tried to hold herself together, but the emotion that had suddenly risen within her was far too powerful.

Tears began gathering in her eyes, and she lowered her gaze, pressing her lips together as she tried not to let them fall.

Parvati noticed immediately.

Without saying a word, she stepped closer and wrapped her arms around Lakshmi.

Saraswati joined her from the other side, gently embracing her as well.

Lakshmi closed her eyes.

The tears finally escaped.

Parvati held her tightly, her expression filled with affection.

Saraswati gently rested a hand against Lakshmi’s shoulder, offering silent comfort.

They both understood.

They knew how deeply Lakshmi had cherished Devara from the moment he came into their lives.

She had watched him grow, watched him learn, watched him stumble and rise again, watched him become a warrior and eventually establish his own kingdom.

She had always loved seeing him as her son, but there was one experience she had quietly wished for more than almost anything else.

She wanted to experience the joy of being a mother watching her child get married.

She wanted to sit beside him during the sacred rituals.

She wanted to bless him as his mother.

And now, without her ever having to ask for it, Devara had remembered that longing himself.

Lakshmi wiped her tears with her fingers, but another tear immediately slipped down her cheek.

"He remembered," she whispered.

Parvati smiled gently.

"Of course he did."

Saraswati nodded.

"He has always known how much this meant to you."

Lakshmi looked toward Devara again.

He was still sitting before the sacred fire, apparently unaware of just how deeply his simple request had affected her.

To him, it was merely a matter of giving his parents a place in his wedding.

But to Lakshmi, those words carried the weight of countless years of love.

Vishnu stood beside her quietly.

He had heard everything as well.

For once, the usually serene expression of the Lord of Vaikuntha had softened completely.

He looked at Lakshmi, then toward Devara, and understood exactly what his son had been trying to give them.

A chance to be parents on a day when the entire world was celebrating their child.

Vishnu gently placed his hand over Lakshmi’s.

She looked up at him through tearful eyes.

Neither needed to say anything.

Their son had remembered them.

And perhaps that was the greatest wedding gift they could have received.
