Mage Manual
Chapter 1822 - 1348: Severed Bonds with the Gilded Gate (Part 2)
Today’s adventure seems particularly grand, Ingrid thought.
Since the birth of the seven layers of the Void Realm, adventures in each layer have emerged one after another. The Sea of Knowledge has already witnessed the legacy of three demigods, although all were incomplete; three days ago, it was said that a Divine Being appeared at Ruby Mountain, causing a stir among the Five Nations, ultimately snatched away by five female mages working together; countless adventures have appeared on the Time Continent, and Ingrid herself encountered a "fruit adventure".
The adventure was simple. Fruits would jump out from a pool, and the more you sliced, the higher your score. Ingrid was the first challenger to meet the score requirement and received the Two-winged Technique Spirit "Fruit Slice". "Fruit Slice" can slice any non-living object to produce juice, an intriguing spirit whose use seems uncertain, and Ingrid plans to sell it at the school’s platform.
The biggest difference between adventures and Void Realm facilities is that adventures are one-time events, making past experiences inapplicable. Therefore, there is no guidance for Two-winged Mages on how to cope in the notifications from the Throne Hall. As for the reason for their occurrence, everyone speculates it’s due to the birth of the Dream Stairs and the seven layers of the Void Realm, but no official conclusion has yet been made. In the tide of the great era, all one can do is adapt.
Recently, there’s been a rumor that adventures may contain treasures known as "Supreme Fragments". Once obtained, even the weakest mage might achieve a brilliant triumph as vast as the starry sky.
Ingrid approached the silver giant sword, finding many mages gathered around, which was to be expected considering such an obvious adventure event.
Interestingly, everyone was gathered near the Sword Seat but weren’t fighting.
Since adventures usually offer only one reward, multiple mages encountering the same adventure often fight to determine the winner. Ingrid assumed there would be a great clamor here and felt a bit excited to test her training results, but now she felt a little disappointed. However, as she crossed the sword circle drawn by the giant sword, receiving adventure information in her mind, her spirits lifted again.
"Death Match Arena"
"Open for two-person duels only / No surrender allowed, fight till the end / The victor receives a random Two-winged Technique Spirit / The loser’s death penalty is reduced by 90% (soul recovery in 48 hours)"
"Strength Balance: If there is a disparity in the strength of the contestants, the arena will grant a blessing to enhance the weaker’s power, maintaining an equal playing field"
"Inactive Participants’ Death: If passive resistance occurs, the inactive participant dies, with the death penalty doubled"
"Consecutive Victories: You can participate in the Death Match repeatedly, but each victory increases the participant’s power rating by 20%, and if defeated, all spoils are lost"
"Arena Status: In a duel, entry not allowed"
Ingrid looked up and saw a fierce battle occurring in the arena. One fighter appeared clad in the skin of a Fox Lamp Dragon, clearly a Parasitic Mage from the Earth Abyss Realm, while the other, a young man with blood-red eyes, exuded an intimidating aura, likely a Blood Saint Mage from the Kingdom of Blood Moon.
Above the arena, a light screen displayed their victory status. The Parasitic Mage had 0 victories, while the Blood Saint Mage astonishingly already achieved 4 victories, indicating this was his fifth match!
Ingrid understood why the Blood Saint Mage could win consecutively: he was adept at transforming into a bat, skillfully kiting on the arena. His blood magic not only inflicted damage but seemed to recover his magic power, making him a top-tier presence in the two-wing stage with his endurance and mobility. In critical moments, he could even turn into a pool of blood, immune to all physical harm.
The Parasitic Mage’s power and speed seemed greatly enhanced, capable of shaking the arena with any strike but unable to land a hit on the Blood Saint Mage. He kept shouting the Earth Abyss’s vulgar curses from the arena, only to receive the Blood Saint Mage’s disdainful sneer in return. Ultimately, within minutes, the Parasitic Mage bled dry, body battered on the arena, dissolving into light particles.
Gracefully landing on the arena, the Blood Saint Mage received a silver light from the sky, hiding a Technique Spirit within.
He casually collected the spoils, seemingly indifferent to what spirit he obtained, then turned arrogantly to overlook the crowd, a wicked gleam in his blood-red eyes as his hoarse voice echoed around: "Next."
The mages fell into silence, their expressions hostile as they gazed at the Blood Saint Mage on the arena, yet no one stepped forward.
So, there are people like this too.
Ingrid could discern at a glance that the Blood Saint Mage wasn’t after the prizes but pursued the thrill of sadistic domination, and his miracle might activate a mage’s pain senses. Such individuals aren’t rare among mages, as possessing sharp weapons naturally breeds murderous intent. Despite holding the power to control life and death, they are constrained by national laws, relegated to killing abyssal monsters or void creatures, which seems as tedious as butchering.
Hand, arm, shoulder, eye, ear, mouth, nose, tongue, throat, chest, abdomen, waist, heart, thigh, knee, foot... taunts, curses, wails, sobs... the stark white of bone, the dark red of blood, the pale yellow of fat... The wonder of humanity far surpasses any beast, no matter how many Fish-Slicing Dragons are slain, they can never satiate their thirst.
Only by personally extinguishing a fellow’s life can they feel the essence of their existence.
