Mafia Lord's Mute Sweetheart
Chapter 227 Are you looking for Alessio?
Chapter 227: Chapter 227 Are you looking for Alessio?
The next morning, Daisy slowly made her way downstairs for breakfast.
She had slept surprisingly well the previous night. Although she had spent some time lying awake, thinking about the divorce and everything that had happened, exhaustion had eventually won and she had fallen asleep without even realizing when it happened.
However, waking up in an unfamiliar room had brought its own little wave of nervousness.
Daisy adjusted the sleeves of her dress as she walked down the stairs, her eyes occasionally wandering around the beautifully decorated interior of the mansion.
Everything looked so elegant and well maintained that she couldn’t help feeling a little out of place.
Everyone in Alessio’s household had been welcoming and Rika had made sure she had everything she needed.
No one had treated her like an inconvenience and nobody had made her feel as though she had to earn the right to stay there.
Still, she wasn’t used to living in someone else’s house.
And somehow, the fact that Alessio wasn’t there made everything feel even more awkward.
Daisy had no idea why she was thinking about him so early in the morning. He had been busy with work the previous night and she knew he had many responsibilities. It was perfectly reasonable for him to leave early.
Yet, as she reached the bottom of the stairs, her eyes instinctively searched the nearby rooms, almost as though she expected to find him somewhere.
He wasn’t there.
Daisy pressed her lips together and continued toward the dining area.
Perhaps she should stop looking for him.
After all, she had only known him for a relatively short time and he was already doing so much for her. She didn’t want to become someone who depended on his presence for every little thing.
With that thought, she stepped into the dining room.
Eva was already sitting at the breakfast table, looking through something on her phone while waiting for the others to arrive. The moment she noticed Daisy entering, she put her phone aside and greeted her with a warm smile.
"Good morning, Daisy! Did you sleep well?"
Daisy paused for a moment before nodding.
Yes.
She smiled politely, hoping the simple gesture would be enough to answer the question.
Eva’s expression brightened.
"That’s good! I was wondering whether you’d be able to sleep comfortably in a new place. Sometimes, even the nicest room can feel strange when you’re not used to it."
Daisy nodded again, appreciating how naturally Eva spoke to her. She never made a big deal out of the fact that Daisy couldn’t speak, nor did she stare at her hands whenever she communicated through gestures.
She simply listened, understood what she could and responded as though they were having an ordinary conversation.
It made Daisy feel much more comfortable.
"Come, sit with me. Breakfast is almost ready."
Eva gestured toward the empty chair beside her.
Daisy walked over and sat down, placing her hands neatly in her lap as she waited for the food to be served.
Her gaze wandered around the dining room again.
There was still no sign of Alessio.
She lowered her eyes to the table, feeling a little silly for even noticing his absence. He had already told her that he had important work to deal with and she had no reason to expect him to have breakfast with her.
Perhaps he hadn’t even returned home last night.
The thought made her pause briefly before she shook her head to herself.
Why was she worrying about that?
Just then, footsteps approached the dining area.
"Good morning, babe."
Daisy looked up just as Rafael walked into the room, his hair slightly messy and his expression suggesting that he hadn’t been awake for very long. Despite his sleepy appearance, he seemed perfectly capable of locating Eva without any difficulty.
He walked straight toward her, leaned down and kissed her cheek before pulling out the chair beside her.
Eva immediately smiled, her cheeks turning a delicate shade of pink.
"Good morning. Did you sleep well?"
"Pretty well." Rafael settled into his seat and glanced at the breakfast spread. His eyes brightened at the sight of the food. "I’m starving, though."
Eva gave him an amused look. "You say that every morning."
"Because I’m hungry every morning."
"That’s not something to be proud of, you know."
"Why not? I think it’s normal thing, humas feel hungry all the times."
Eva laughed softly and moved the plate of toast closer to him. Rafael thanked her before helping himself to some eggs, looking entirely satisfied with the arrangement.
Daisy watched them with a small smile.
They seemed so comfortable together. There was no awkwardness between them, no need to carefully consider every word before speaking. Rafael could tease Eva without worrying that she would misunderstand him, and Eva could scold him over the smallest things while still making sure his plate was full.
It was rather sweet.
After taking a sip of water, Rafael finally turned toward Daisy.
"Good morning, Daisy. Did you sleep well?"
Daisy nodded and smiled, raising one hand to gesture a cheerful good morning.
Rafael smiled back.
"Good morning!"
He returned his attention to his breakfast while Eva poured herself some juice.
For a little while, the three of them ate together. Eva occasionally asked Daisy whether she liked a particular dish and Daisy answered with nods, smiles, or little gestures. ℯℯ𝑙.
Whenever Daisy seemed unsure about something, Eva patiently explained it without making her feel embarrassed.
Gradually, Daisy’s initial nervousness began to fade.
The dining room was warm, the food was delicious and Rafael and Eva’s easy conversation made the atmosphere feel much less formal than she had expected.
She was just beginning to feel comfortable when Eva, who had noticed Daisy glancing toward the entrance a few times, tilted her head curiously.
"Are you looking for Alessio?"
Daisy immediately looked at her.
Her eyes widened and she shook her head so quickly that Eva blinked in surprise.
"No?"
Daisy shook her head again, this time more slowly, before lowering her gaze to her plate.
Oh, no.
Why had Eva noticed?
She hadn’t even realized she was looking toward the entrance so often!
Eva watched her for another second before a little smile appeared on her face.
"Okay, okay. I was just asking."
