Chapter 225: Chapter 225

She couldn’t hear the entire conversation from where she was sitting, but she could tell from Alessio’s voice that it wasn’t a casual call.

His tone was low and Serious.

Occasionally, he asked short questions.

"What happened?"

"When? Where are they now?"

Daisy’s hand slowly stopped.

She looked at him.

Whatever the call was about, it seemed important.

Alessio listened for several seconds before saying something quietly and ending the call.

He remained standing for a moment, his expression thoughtful.

Then he returned to the table.

Daisy looked at him questioningly.

Alessio picked up his phone and slipped it back into his pocket.

"I have some important work to deal with."

Daisy immediately nodded.

She understood. He glanced at her.

"I might not be able to come back for a while."

Daisy paused.

Then she gave him a reassuring smile and nodded again.

She didn’t want him to worry about her.

Alessio watched her for a moment. "Don’t worry about anything."

His voice softened slightly.

"Just make yourself comfortable here."

Daisy’s smile became a little warmer.

She nodded.

Alessio gave her a small nod in return.

After Alessio left, Daisy finally finished her meal at a much more comfortable pace.

Without his green eyes following her every movement, she could actually enjoy the food instead of worrying about whether she was eating too quickly or making a mess.

She had just finished her dessert when a middle-aged maid approached the dining table with a polite smile.

"Miss Daisy?"

Daisy looked up and nodded.

"My name is Rika. I’ll be taking care of you while you’re staying here."

The maid spoke gently, making sure Daisy could follow what she was saying.

"If you need anything, please don’t hesitate to call me. Whether it’s food, clothes, toiletries or anything else you might need, just let me know. And if anyone gives you trouble, you can tell me as well."

Rika smiled warmly.

"Please make yourself comfortable. You’re a guest in this house, so there’s no need to feel shy about asking for anything."

Daisy’s expression softened.

She was relieved to meet someone who seemed so kind. She had been worried about becoming a burden to Alessio and his family, especially since she had arrived so suddenly.

She quickly picked up her phone and typed a message.

Thank you, Rika. I’ll remember that.

She showed the screen to the maid.

Rika smiled when she read it.

"You’re welcome, Miss Daisy."

Daisy gave her a grateful smile before following her directions toward the stairs.

By the time she reached her bedroom, the exhaustion she had been ignoring throughout the day finally caught up with her.

It had been an incredibly long day.

She had gone to the courthouse, signed her divorce papers, left the house where she had lived for so long, and moved into a completely unfamiliar mansion.

And now, somehow, she was supposed to start a new Chapter of her life.

Daisy closed the bedroom door behind her and leaned against it for a moment.

Then she let out a long breath.

She still couldn’t quite believe what had happened.

She was divorced.

She and Cedric were no longer husband and wife.

After three years of loving him, waiting for his affection, and hoping that one day their marriage would become what she had dreamed of, everything had finally ended with a few signatures on a piece of paper.

It sounded so simple when she thought about it that way.

But it hadn’t felt simple when she had been sitting beside him in the lawyer’s office.

She remembered how Cedric had looked at her after signing the papers.

We’re divorced now.

His words had stayed in her mind longer than she wanted them to.

Daisy lowered her eyes.

She didn’t know what she had expected to feel after the divorce. Relief, perhaps. Freedom. Maybe even happiness.

Instead, she felt strangely empty.

There was sadness but beneath it was something else, something she couldn’t quite put into words.

Maybe it was the feeling of finally letting go of something she had held onto for far too long.

Or perhaps she was simply too tired to understand her own emotions.

Daisy pushed herself away from the door and walked toward the wardrobe.

Rika had already arranged some basic necessities in the room and Daisy was grateful that she didn’t have to worry about finding everything herself.

She changed into a comfortable set of nightclothes, washed her face and brushed her hair before returning to the bed.

The soft mattress practically welcomed her.

For a moment, she considered lying down and going straight to sleep.

Then she remembered Annie.

Daisy quickly reached for her phone.

Annie had been one of the few people she could talk to about her life, even when she hadn’t been able to explain everything happening around her. She wanted to tell her about the divorce, especially because it was such a significant change.

Without thinking too much, she opened their chat.

Her fingers moved across the keyboard.

Daisy: Cedric and I got divorced.

She stared at the message for a moment before sending it.

Delivered.

Daisy placed the phone beside her pillow and waited.

Perhaps Annie would be surprised.

Perhaps she would immediately call her and ask what had happened.

Daisy could already imagine the questions.

Are you okay?

What happened at the courthouse?

Where are you staying now?

She smiled faintly at the thought but a few minutes passed.

There was no reply.

Daisy picked up her phone again and checked the screen.

Nothing.

She put it down.

Then picked it up again a little later.

Still nothing.

Her smile slowly faded, although she wasn’t particularly surprised.

This had been happening quite often lately.

Annie’s replies had become increasingly delayed, and sometimes Daisy had to wait hours before hearing from her.

At first, she had wondered whether she had done something wrong.

Had she said something that upset Annie? Had she been messaging her too often? Was Annie tired of listening to her problems?

But whenever they finally spoke, Annie seemed as friendly as ever.

So Daisy had gradually stopped worrying about it.

Annie had started working on celebrity photoshoots and her schedule had become busier and busier. Daisy knew those jobs could involve long hours, last-minute changes, and plenty of responsibilities.

Perhaps Annie simply didn’t have much time to check her phone anymore.

It made sense.

Daisy didn’t want to become another responsibility Annie had to worry about.

She locked her phone and placed it on the bedside table.

"It’s okay," she murmured silently to herself, offering a small, reassuring smile even though there was no one there to see it.

Annie would reply when she had time.

There was no need to overthink it.

Daisy pulled the blanket over herself and settled against the pillows.
