Chapter 190 What is happening?
Chapter 190: Chapter 190 What is happening?
Daisy happened to glance toward Alessio again, only to find the beautiful woman in the light-pink dress still standing near him.
She was smiling while talking to him, occasionally brushing her hair behind her ear as though she was trying her best to keep his attention. Her body language was open and inviting, and she laughed at something he said, even though Alessio’s expression remained as composed and uninterested as ever. From where Daisy stood, she couldn’t tell what they were talking about, but the sight of them together made something unpleasant stir inside her chest.
She didn’t like seeing him with another woman.
The realization itself surprised her. She had no claim over him, no right to feel this way. They were just friends, nothing more. And yet, the image of that woman smiling up at him, her hand occasionally reaching out to touch his arm, made her feel uncomfortable in a way she couldn’t explain.
Daisy quickly looked away, pretending to be interested in the conversation around Grandpa James. She tried to dismiss the strange feeling, telling herself that Alessio was simply her friend and he was free to speak to whoever he wanted. She had no reason to feel this way.
So why did her heart feel strangely heavy?
She didn’t understand it.
After standing there for a little longer, Daisy finally decided she needed some rest. She had been working almost the entire day, running around making sure everything for Grandpa James’s birthday was perfect and she had barely eaten anything since morning. Her body was starting to protest, and the exhaustion was catching up with her.
She quietly excused herself from Grandpa James with a gesture, promising him that she would return later. She placed a hand over her heart and gave him a small nod, her eyes conveying her sincerity.
James nodded affectionately. "Go rest for a while, sweetheart. You’ve been running around all day."
Daisy smiled and nodded before turning toward the staircase.
She had barely taken a few steps when the room suddenly seemed to tilt.
Her vision blurred.
Daisy stopped. She blinked several times, trying to clear the haze that had settled over her eyes.
The lights above her seemed unusually bright and for a moment, the voices around her became distant and muffled, as though she were standing underwater.
She placed one hand against the wall, her fingers pressing into the cool surface.
What is happening?
She took a slow breath and tried to steady herself. Maybe she was simply exhausted. That had to be it. The day had been long, and her body was finally giving in.
Then another wave of dizziness hit her.
Her fingers tightened against the wall. She suddenly remembered that she hadn’t properly eaten all day. Breakfast had been rushed, lunch had been forgotten because of the preparations, and after that she had been too busy getting ready for the party. Her stomach was empty and her body was finally protesting.
Maybe that’s why...
She tried to take another step. Her knees felt strangely weak, as if they might buckle at any moment.
Behind her, Alessio had already noticed.
The moment Daisy left, his attention followed her almost automatically. He had barely finished dealing with the woman who had been trying to flirt with him when he saw Daisy pause near the staircase. Her posture was different and something in the way she held herself made him immediately alert.
His expression changed. "Daisy?"
She didn’t hear him.
Alessio immediately walked after her, his long strides quickly closing the distance. "Daisy."
She turned slightly at the sound of his voice. Her vision was still blurry and for a second his tall figure appeared almost doubled in front of her.
She blinked, trying to focus.
Alessio’s brows drew together. "What’s wrong?"
Daisy tried to reassure him with a small gesture, but even lifting her hand suddenly felt difficult. "I’m fine," she attempted to gesture but her movements were slower than usual, lacking their usual precision.
Alessio looked at her carefully. "You don’t look fine."
Daisy shook her head. She pointed vaguely toward her stomach and then toward the stairs, trying to explain that she was simply tired. Her gestures were weak, almost pleading.
Alessio understood only part of it. "When did you last eat?"
Daisy froze. She looked away, her gaze dropping to the floor. That was answer enough.
His expression immediately hardened. "Daisy."
She gave him an apologetic little smile, her eyes soft with guilt.
He exhaled through his nose. "You haven’t eaten."
She lowered her eyes.
Alessio stepped closer, his voice becoming calmer. "Come on. Sit down first."
He gently reached for her arm before she could protest, his fingers wrapping around her wrist with careful firmness.
Daisy tried to take another step but another brief blackout swept over her vision. The world tilted and she felt herself sway.
Her body began to fall.
Alessio caught her immediately. His arm went around her waist, steadying her before she could lose her balance completely. His eyes narrowed with concern, his grip firm but gentle. "Easy."
Daisy leaned against him for a moment, embarrassed and startled by how suddenly her strength had disappeared. Her face flushed with shame as she pressed her hand to her forehead.
Alessio looked down at her. "You really are impossible, little hamster." There was no teasing warmth in his voice this time. Only concern. "Who goes through an entire day without eating and then wonders why they’re dizzy?"
Daisy looked up at him apologetically, her dark eyes filled with guilt.
Alessio sighed. "Don’t give me that face."
She blinked.
He softened slightly. "You’re eating something before you do anything else."
She shook her head and gestured that she wants to go to her room. Her hand movements were weak but insistent.
"Alright." He relented, but she could see in his eyes that he wasn’t happy about it.
She tried to walk by herself, but Alessio held her again to help her. His arm remained steady around her waist, supporting her weight.
Daisy immediately shook her head, trying to gesture that she could walk by herself, but Alessio wasn’t convinced. Her protests were feeble and he wasn’t about to let her fall.
"I didn’t ask whether you could walk," he said calmly. "I am going to help you, no matter what a certain hamster says."
She gave him a small, mildly offended look.
Alessio raised an eyebrow. "Yes, I know. Very bossy. You can complain about me later."
He kept one arm securely around her waist while she held onto his other arm, and together they slowly made their way toward her room. Daisy tried to keep her steps steady, embarrassed that she needed his support but her body clearly wasn’t cooperating.
They had barely reached the hallway when her vision suddenly blurred again.
The lights seemed to fade at the edges.
Daisy’s steps faltered. Her knees weakened.
Before she could even realize what was happening, her entire body leaned heavily against Alessio.
