Chapter 3992: Chapter 3992: Lu Zhi’s Big Loss

"This time..." Qiao Nian rarely explains why she does something or why she doesn’t. But now, she is exceptionally patient, a hint of guilt flashing in her dark eyes as she looks at Ye Wangchuan on the hospital bed. She tightens the corners of her lips, unable to explain anything, and says in a deep voice, "Sorry."

Ye Wangchuan knows very well about the friendship she shares with Jian Jin and Lu Zhi, having grown up together. He also knows that Qiao Nian couldn’t act against Lu Zhi not because of Lu Zhi himself, but most likely because of Jian Jin...

He estimates that after this, Lu Zhi won’t get another chance again. Compared to what Lu Zhi has inadvertently lost, the fact that he only has a minor shoulder injury seems much more bearable.

Only he can’t say it out loud.

So Ye Wangchuan curves his lips into a smile, in a pretty good mood: "If you really feel like you owe me, find some time to accompany me to an engagement party."

"Hmm?" Qiao Nian remains clueless, "What engagement party?"

Ye Wangchuan raises his eyelids slightly and says, "The Bo family’s. Bo Zheng. He’s getting engaged to a journalist, and they’ve picked a date. They’ve sent an invitation to the old man in the family, but he isn’t going, asking me to go instead."

"You know these events require a female companion. Would God Qiao grace me with your presence?" He smiles faintly.

Qiao Nian, knowing full well that he is likely using her guilt to intentionally invite her back, still ends up saying: "Alright. Just let me know the date, and I’ll make some time."

**

Three days later.

Ye Wangchuan is transferred from the hospital to the Red Alliance headquarters.

Qiao Nian also finds time to make a call to Mo Xi, asking Mo Xi to release the person.

In the manor.

Mo Xi receives the order and returns to the reception room, speaking to Nie Qingru, who has been waiting impatiently yet dares not provoke Qiao Nian: "Empress, you may leave now."

Nie Qingru suddenly lifts her head, her gaze sharp like a knife: "What about her? She’s not coming to see me off?"

Mo Xi raises an eyebrow: "Who are you referring to, old one."

"... Surely you can’t be referring to Miss Qiao?" He has an expression of mockery.

Nie Qingru’s face turns exceedingly ugly, standing up and tugging at her shawl, casting a cold gaze over: "I’m leaving the illegal zone tomorrow, have her come to see me off."

Mo Xi listens to her somewhat entitled request and straightforwardly declines: "I can’t get in touch with Miss Qiao. Why don’t you contact her yourself, Empress?"

Nie Qingru stops again at the stairwell, turns back to look at him, her gaze filled with resentful fury, as if wishing to swallow him whole.

Mo Xi pretends not to notice, calling out to his men: "Brothers, let’s go."

Everyone else has long been annoyed by Nie Qingru’s behavior, tidying up their belongings collectively, treating her like air as they pass by.

"Let’s go."

"Time to shower when we’re back."

"I’ve had enough of this hellhole."

Nie Qingru watches them all walk past her, chatting and talking as if no one is around, her mouth turning downward, her face becoming terrifyingly gloomy.

But neither the people from Dark Fort nor Mo Xi seem to notice her distress and have already begun discussing having a hotpot gathering soon.

Nie Qingru feels a lump stuck in her throat, unable to vent her anger, her chest heaving heavily with frustration, she finally swings her hand and heads upstairs without looking back.

With his peripheral vision, Mo Xi sees her heading upstairs, delivering a playful kick to the knee of the burly man talking to him about dinner plans, and jokes, "Alright then, she’s gone up. Stop acting, let’s get ready to leave."

"Okay."

Nie Qingru doesn’t see what happens when she goes up; immediately, the gang of roughnecks downstairs start retracting their playful expressions, efficiently packing their things, readying to depart.
