Chapter 3979: Chapter 3979: Trying to Steal a Chicken Only to Lose the Rice
Old Xue could hear the underlying disdain in his words and the way he didn’t take Qiao Nian seriously. He paused, his voice low: "Did you badmouth her back in Beijing?"
"?" Vancouver didn’t react for a moment. He grabbed the front seat and sat up a bit, completely clueless: "What do you mean? Her conditions have something to do with me?"
"They do have something to do with you." Old Xue was blunt: "Qiao Nian called me and said she already knows the terms we offered. The terms are fair, but she wants to add one more item for compensation. She said you’ve been running around Beijing ruining her reputation, so she wants 800 million for emotional damages."
"How much?"
Vancouver’s head rang with a buzzing sound. He instinctively gripped his phone tighter and pressed it to his ear, blurting out, "Why doesn’t she just go rob someone!"
His blood surged all over, a metallic sweetness rushed up his throat, and he was so angry he almost spat out a mouthful of blood.
Eight hundred million!
The future granddaughter-in-law the Ye family picked really dared to open her mouth. Even robbing a bank wouldn’t be as shameless and gutsy as her! Why doesn’t she go rob a bank!
"I’ve already agreed to pay." The old man in the blue shirt clearly didn’t want to keep tangling with him over this. Before Vancouver could question him, he said flatly, "You’ve probably heard of Zhui Guang."
Vancouver had been utterly unable to understand why he would so easily agree to such an unreasonable demand. Had the reclusive family gone insane?
He furrowed his brows tightly, clutching his phone, his breathing uneven: "I’ve heard of her. What does this have to do with Zhui Guang? She knows Zhui Guang?"
Vancouver wasn’t slow on the uptake; he immediately connected it to Qiao Nian knowing that legendary boss of the illegal zone.
The reclusive family had clamped down hard on news about Nie Qingru, and with Lu Zhi sitting in town in the illegal zone, it was very hard for outsiders to get any information from inside.
On top of that, it hadn’t been long since it happened, so the news hadn’t spread yet. Many factions inside the illegal zone still hadn’t figured out what exactly went down that night.
Vancouver was outside, and most of the information he got came from Old Xue’s word of mouth.
Old Xue was using him as a lobbyist and had phrased it rather tactfully, concealing a lot. He’d only told him roughly what had happened.
He’d never mentioned Qiao Nian’s identity.
Logically, with things at this point, the reclusive family coughing up an extra 800 million couldn’t really be blamed on Vancouver’s reckless behavior. But put anyone in his shoes—forking out that much for no reason, they’d feel upset.
Not to mention, in this Privy Council matter, he was the only one running around handling it, so of course he and the Xue family were the ones footing the bill...
Old Xue was even more displeased that Vancouver had acted on his own without consulting him, and he spoke without the slightest regard for Vancouver’s feelings, saying directly, "She is Zhui Guang."
"What?!"
Vancouver shot to his feet, his head immediately slamming into the car roof with a sharp stab of pain.
He was so stunned he actually forgot he was still in the car on the way back to the hotel.
His ridiculous reaction scared the driver up front, who turned back, stunned, and said to him, "Sir, are you alright?"
Vancouver’s face went green, then white, then red. His expression was dazed, like he hadn’t heard the driver at all, and he went straight on with Old Xue: "Why didn’t you tell me earlier that she was... was..."
He was about to die of anger.
Huge regret wrapped around him. Vancouver felt like he couldn’t breathe, his shoulders shaking as he completely lost control of his emotions.
"If you’d told me her identity in advance, I wouldn’t have..." wouldn’t have stupidly gone and offended her!
Old Xue felt no guilt whatsoever: "You also didn’t tell me that you went to see the Wei family’s Wei Lou and the Qin’s people."
