Madam’s Identities Shocks the Entire City Again
Chapter 3949: Lu Zhi Stopped
Chapter 3949: Chapter 3949: Lu Zhi Stopped
When Jian Jin was feeling uneasy, Lu Zhi arrived, escorted by bodyguards.
The subordinates surrounding Jian Jin and the others stepped aside upon seeing him.
Lu Zhi glanced at Jian Jin in the crowd, who was pointing a gun at himself to threaten others, and pursed his lips, "When did you become so childish?"
Jian Jin stood opposite him, suppressing her anguish, and said, "Boss, I’m serious."
"You’re threatening me with your life?" Lu Zhi seemed somewhat agitated, sparks hidden deep in his eyes, his face revealing nothing of his thoughts.
"Yes." Jian Jin admitted frankly.
Lu Zhi’s deep gaze was dark; he took a deep breath and calmly said, "What if I don’t release them? Will you really shoot?"
Jian Jin said, "Qiao is in there. I can’t let her be in danger, so you can try."
Lu Zhi gripped the railing tightly, looking at her with restraint, "In your eyes, would I harm her?"
"I used to think you wouldn’t. Now, I don’t know anymore."
Jian Jin’s words pierced like a precise and cruel knife into Lu Zhi’s heart, leaving him momentarily numb, unable to believe she would say such things.
He thought that after all these years, only Jian Jin understood him, only to find that even she would say this now, going so far as to aim a gun at him to force his hand.
Lu Zhi paused, "I won’t harm her."
Jian Jin didn’t respond directly, half-pulling the trigger, pressuring him aggressively, "I can’t gamble with Qiao, I can’t afford it, so I want you to let her go."
Lu Zhi saw her pulling the trigger halfway; just a little more force, and Jian Jin would shed blood before him.
His pupils contracted an inch, just about to speak, when his phone rang on him.
Lu Zhi picked up the phone, "Hello."
On the other end, who knows what was said, but everyone noticed his expression growing more serious, the surrounding air becoming more and more tense.
Until the atmosphere reached its peak, Lu Zhi gripped the phone tightly and said in a low voice, "I didn’t expect you to stab me in the back."
The archbishop on the other end retorted unyieldingly, "We didn’t expect Mr. Lu to know the empress was in danger and still won’t stop. So, we’re even!"
Lu Zhi’s eyes were laden with an inky blackness that couldn’t dissipate. He curled the corner of his mouth, his gaze falling again on the anxious Jian Jin in the distance, finally relenting, "I’ll remember your kind gesture."
He hung up the phone, put it down, looked at Jian Jin, his tone steady and unemotional, "Put down the gun, I’ll have my people withdraw at once."
"Really?" Jian Jin hadn’t relaxed her grip, visibly not trusting him.
Lu Zhi didn’t say much, he turned his head and instructed the bodyguard, "Order our people to withdraw!"
"Mr. Lu?" The bodyguard was extremely shocked, looking between him and Jian Jin, unsure if Lu Zhi was serious or bluffing.
Lu Zhi remained composed and calm, "Have them retreat!"
After speaking, he turned back to look at Jian Jin again, "Put the gun down, there will be no next time."
Jian Jin’s eyes heated up all of a sudden, unable to articulate her emotions, feeling countless sour bubbles rushing outward.
She understood that the reason Lu Zhi would retreat was partly due to that strange phone call, and partly because of her, even if her influence was minimal, likely not for love, but years of friendship that pushed him to give way a bit.
Yet it was this small concession that kept her from regretting her decision to stay in the illegal zone all these years.
Jian Jin no longer pressured him, slowly putting down the gun and softly saying, "You should apologize to Qiao."
Lu Zhi ignored her, addressing the others, "Let’s go back."
