SUMMARY

Thirty years after his last war, Osric Lorgand must defend a barony with an unfinished wall and a handful of trained soldiers.

The eastern beacons are burning. Villages have been destroyed, caravans have vanished, and thousands of refugees are fleeing west. Valmarch is in the invasion’s path.

Osric still remembers the men he couldn’t save. Now he must turn a failing garrison into a fighting force before another war takes the people in his care.

His inexperienced son stands beside him, and his daughter refuses to stay behind. The nobles underestimate the danger. The enemy’s commanders are intelligent, and their soldiers have reasons of their own to fight.

Valmarch cannot win this war. Osric’s task is to keep its people alive.

Every order will carry a cost. This time, his own children will be there to face it—and keeping them safe may demand more of the man he became thirty years ago than he is willing to bring back.

A grounded military fantasy following a veteran, his family, and the rebuilding of a border garrison.

Expect military strategy, soldiers growing into an effective fighting force, capable opponents, and victories whose consequences reach beyond the battlefield.
