Chapter 409 - 383: An Overwhelming Sweep
A gale of murderous intent swept across the entire battlefield.
The soldiers’ shouts were deafening, as if they could tear the very heavens apart. The weapons in their hands glinted coldly, each swing bringing a spray of blood.
The noble lords themselves led the charge, their figures silhouetted against the flames of war, looking exceptionally heroic and fearless.
SQUELCH!
A soldier’s longsword plunged into an enemy’s chest, but this time, there was no familiar spray of blood. The stabbed enemy showed no sign of pain. Instead, it raised its longsword and thrust back. In an instant, fresh blood splattered as another life was taken.
Over the past day, Kabil, Sandro, and the others had already spread Ronin’s intelligence on how to kill the Witch Soul Race. But knowing what to do was one thing; on a real battlefield with so many variables, casualties were inevitable.
Still, Ronin’s intelligence did have an effect. At the very least, many soldiers caught on, pairing up to decapitate their opponents.
’There are too many of them.’
The Flame Stream Sword blazed with scorching flames, felling a row of enemies with a single swing.
But Ronin shrewdly observed that the first wave was entirely cannon fodder. Barrington and his men had purposely held back, avoiding the brunt of the initial charge.
’Are they trying to wear us down with these pawns?’
Ronin’s Fighting Qi erupted, creating a powerful gust of wind that blew away the charging grunts. He then quickly began to draw the Magic Patterns.
VMMMM—
The air trembled as the Power of Wind Element condensed into a translucent arrow that shot forward with incredible speed.
THWIP! THWIP! THWIP…
Skewering them one after another, the Heart-Piercing Wave shot through the bodies of all the enemies in its path, speeding toward Barrington in the heart of the enemy formation.
Human enemies struck by the wave were grievously wounded and collapsed, while the Witch Soul Race cannon fodder simply disintegrated into dust.
“Hmm?”
Barrington had already been watching Ronin. Now, seeing the soldiers before him disintegrate, he instantly realized his opponent had used Magic.
“Seventh-level Magic—Heart-Piercing Wave!”
He let out a great shout as an aura of darkness and flame enveloped him, condensing into Fighting Qi Armor. He swung his Great Sword at the translucent arrow.
BOOM! The two forces collided in a massive explosion, the impact of which blasted Barrington from his horse.
Ronin frowned slightly. ’The Heart-Piercing Wave lost some of its Power after piercing so many enemies. Otherwise, he shouldn’t have been able to block that Magic attack so hastily.’
Just then, a Knight swinging a Great Sword charged at Ronin.
Ronin could sense no eerie black energy on the man, which meant he was a normal human.
A single horizontal sweep from Ronin sent the man’s longsword flying. He followed up with a kick, the tremendous force sending the Knight sailing into the crowd behind him and knocking down a whole swathe of soldiers.
Before him, not one of them could put up a fight.
However, Kabil and the others weren’t having such an easy time while being surrounded.
This was especially true for the Bronze Knight Rig. As the foremost warrior of Wubei Territory, he was on the defensive, surrounded by two Advanced Level Knights and a mob of cannon fodder.
Fortunately, the members of the Wubei Territory’s Knight Squad were nearby, and they could all rely on each other for support.
Meanwhile, a shaken Barrington ordered the cannon fodder to charge forward as he himself retreated.
He couldn’t believe there was a Great Mage on this battlefield. What he found even harder to believe was that this Great Mage was the once-worthless Ronin.
Taini came up to him and demanded, “What the hell is going on? Aren’t they supposed to have an Undying Body? How are they dying?”
Barrington stared at Taini as if he were an idiot. “You think having an Undying Body means you actually can’t die?”
“You!”
Taini felt like he’d been played for a fool, but it was too late for regrets.
Watching his men locked in a fierce battle with Vitorino, Marvin, and their forces, he had no choice but to draw his sword and charge forward.
Unfortunately for him, a sharp streak of red light shot through the crowd and pierced him between the eyes.
“Gah…”
Compressed to its absolute limit, the power of the Fire Flash Combat Skill seemed to surpass even that of the Heart-Piercing Wave. Taini only managed to choke out a single syllable before he collapsed stiffly to the ground with a THUD.
Ridder’s figure appeared at that moment. On a battlefield like this, a Proud Sun Knight was a wolf among sheep, free to slaughter as he pleased.
Barrington shuddered, roaring inwardly, ’What the hell is going on? Shouldn’t I have the advantage with this unkillable army? How did they break through our lines and get to me so fast?’
Ridder’s indifferent gaze swept over Barrington. “Anyone who surrenders to the Witch Soul Race deserves to die!”
Just as he was about to strike, Ronin, who had been weaving through the battlefield using Wind Instant Step, drew near. “Ridder, leave this one to me.”
Ridder stopped in his tracks. “Yes, sir!”
With that, he turned and plunged back into the fray.
“Ronin?”
Barrington’s tone was filled with disbelief. “No, you can’t be Ronin!”
“I am Ronin, grandson of Lurans.”
Ronin moved like a phantom, appearing before Barrington in an instant and slashing down with his sword.
Barrington raised his sword to block, but even gripping the hilt with both hands, the immense force pressing down on him left him breathless.
Ronin had held back on that strike; otherwise, his opponent would have been cut.
“Before you die, I want to ask you something. How exactly did Selena die?”
Barrington let out a strange laugh. “What, still thinking about your dead fiancée? She died because of you…”
Hmph!
With Barrington unable to retaliate, Ronin lashed out with a kick to his stomach.
“Forget it. I was just a little curious. The truth doesn’t matter to me anymore!”
As Barrington crashed heavily to the ground, all he could feel was the absolute disparity in their strength—a gap that even his Witch Soul Race body couldn’t bridge.
’This is definitely not the power and speed an ordinary Meteor Knight should possess. How old is he? How can he possibly be this strong?’
Seeing that the situation was dire, Barrington turned to flee.
As he fled, he reached into his pocket, pulled out a Cyan Wood Horn, and blew into it with all his might.
An eerie sound echoed across the battlefield, as if some kind of trigger had been activated.
The lowest-ranking Shadow Mist Level soldiers of the Witch Soul Race threw their heads back and roared, a tangible black mist pouring from their mouths.
In an instant, they became utterly berserk and frenzied. Their speed, Power, and ferocity all surged. It was as if an ordinary person had instantly been transformed into a death-defying warrior, their combat prowess soaring.
WHOOSH—
A powerful gust of wind swept the land as Carlos’s colossal figure descended from the sky, its talons snatching Barrington right up.
“Let me go!”
Barrington roared madly. In his escape from the thick of the fight, he had completely forgotten there was a Dragon in the sky.
Instead of letting go, Carlos tightened its grip. “I hate that sound. I utterly despise it!”
CRUNCH—
The Giant Dragon’s talons squeezed violently, crushing the Golden Knight’s bones and bursting his internal organs.
But even so, Barrington did not die.
Clearly disgusted, Carlos smashed him onto the ground. It then opened its massive maw, and a torrent of Flame Breath completely engulfed him.
“Burn, you disgusting creature!”
When the flames subsided, Barrington had been reduced to ash.
From the moment he’d led his troops out, he had fantasized about slaughtering his way into Splendid City. He never imagined he would die just like Taini, before even having a chance to make his mark on the battle.
Ronin walked over. A human-shaped shadow was scorched onto the ground, and the black Horn had been burned to a cinder.
It wasn’t that Carlos’s Flame Breath was exceptionally hot; the Horn was simply made of ordinary wood.
’If that Horn could control the Witch Soul Race soldiers…’
Ronin glanced at the battlefield. Even though Barrington was dead, the cannon fodders’ combat effectiveness hadn’t waned.
In that short time, the frenzied soldiers were already causing considerable trouble for the Noble Alliance Army and the Knight Order’s infantry.
’First, I need to end this war.’
