Chapter 437: Chapter 409: Cursed Workshop 3
"They’re in there! They’re hiding inside with wrenches!" the lanky foreman shouted, pointing deep into the darkness.
The guards charged in.
They never came out again.
In the darkness, several cold flashes of light glinted silently. Kael’s figure moved like a bolt of lightning. His shortsword, Punishment, arced through the air, leaving trails of cold light as it reaped lives with graceful ease.
At the same time, the same scene was playing out in every corner of the workshop.
It wasn’t just the workers; four or five foremen had also joined the rebellion. Some deliberately drew sentries away, while others loudly berated the workers, creating more noise to cover the sounds of the slaughter. One even took advantage of the chaos to stab a colleague in the back.
Thomas watched the scene unfold, his fists clenched. For the past half-month, he had not only been saving the workers but also secretly turning these low-level foremen, who were themselves on the brink of hell. Even a fiend in despair will yearn to grasp that one sliver of redemptive light.
Mia hung upside down from a crossbeam, a thin wire dangling from her hands. Following a rebel foreman’s signal, she used it to strangle a crossbowman patrolling the second floor.
Xiaolan slid out from under a conveyor belt. In the instant a rebel foreman deliberately blocked the view, her dagger plunged into the back of the Captain of the Guard, piercing his heart.
Slaughter.
An efficient slaughter, coordinated with help from the inside.
The workers coordinated with a tacit understanding, pushing the everyday clamor of their labor to a crescendo, yet carefully keeping it within the bounds of "busy" rather than "riot." The deliberately amplified industrial noise perfectly masked the subtle sound of blades sinking into flesh, providing cover for the Grim Reaper.
In less than ten minutes.
Aside from the few foremen who had defected, all eighteen guards loyal to Hector had vanished into the clamorous roar of the machinery.
Kael stepped out of the shadows and flicked the blood from his blade, glancing at the lanky foreman. The man’s face was pale, but he lowered his head in awe.
Thomas strode forward. "That’s the path to the fourth floor’s core control room."
He pointed to a huge black iron door at the end of the workshop.
Level 5 Warrior, Adam "The Hammer."
The ferocious, beast-like aura seeping through the heavy iron door made the surrounding air feel viscous.
One of the team members started forward, but Kael stopped them.
’Stop.’
Kael stared at the great door, sensing the dangerous aura emanating from within. Then he glanced back at the wide-open bottling workshop behind them.
Though they had cleared the area, the space was immense and offered no cover.
’This place won’t work.’
Kael’s voice sounded calmly in everyone’s minds.
’Adam is a Level 5 Warrior. We’ll be at a disadvantage if we fight him head-on here.’
He turned, his gaze shifting back toward the dark depths from which they came—the place where they had just rendezvoused with Thomas.
’Remember that scrap cavern we passed just now?’
Kael’s finger drew a line in the empty air.
’The terrain there is narrow, piled high with slag, and there are several tangled support columns. They’re natural limiters. He won’t be able to leverage his strength advantage in there.’
Kael looked to Mia and Xiaolan, rapidly issuing his commands.
’Everyone, fall back to the scrap cavern. Mia, you’ll prepare your Magic at the entrance. Xiaolan, you’ll use the shadows of the slag heaps to lie in wait.’
Finally, Kael’s gaze fell on the lanky foreman, a cold glint in his eyes.
"Lure him over."
He pointed at the great door.
"Once we’re in position, go and knock on the door. Tell them the workers outside are rioting, the situation is out of control, and you’re requesting that Lord Adam come and suppress them."
