Chapter 389 - 252: I am the End (2)
At twenty-two, Jack became an Intermediate Investigator. His veteran partner was killed in the line of duty.
At twenty-five, Jack was highly decorated. He had solved nearly fifty supernatural cases of varying sizes, becoming one of the FBI’s most experienced Advanced Investigators.
At twenty-eight, Jack went on a mission to Lapland, where he stopped a wicked sacrificial ritual and unexpectedly obtained a Ruby imbued with mysterious Power.
At thirty-one, Jack had solved over one hundred supernatural cases and was hailed as a legendary investigator. His name was engraved on an obelisk, his heroic deeds in defense of humanity destined to last for all time.
Late that same year, the FBI discovered an anomaly in Akita Town. A preliminary assessment determined the Level of the supernatural event in Akita Town was too high, so Jack was dispatched personally.
The moment he arrived in Akita Town, Jack felt a sense of dread. The legendary investigator’s keen intuition told him a massive conspiracy was brewing.
He went everywhere, interviewing and investigating… For over a month, he found nothing.
It was as if some unseen consciousness was preventing him from getting close to the truth.
During this time, Jack received a warning from the mastermind. A police officer who had been eagerly helping him with the case mysteriously disappeared. When the officer was found, he had become a horribly mutilated corpse.
In response to this warning, Jack felt only Anger, not the slightest inclination to back down. He meticulously continued his investigation, but every time he was about to uncover a key clue, it would vanish due to some freak accident.
Like an unstoppable program, people in Akita Town kept dying and disappearing every day. This made Jack increasingly agitated.
Later, he heard that some children claimed to have seen a Demon. He visited them for a detailed interview and finally found the first breadcrumbs leading to the truth.
But a few days later, those same children vanished into thin air while searching for their missing friend in the forest.
Jack knew they had surely met a terrible fate.
Though filled with grief and regret, he didn’t stop. He relentlessly closed in on the mastermind pulling the strings from behind the scenes.
However, he was too late.
On Christmas Eve, disaster struck.
Satan from Hell manifested, turning Akita Town into a Purgatory in the Mortal World. Countless lives were lost.
Jack fought desperately to stop it. Although he was hailed as a legendary investigator, he was, in the end, only a normal human. Satan defeated him with ease.
Right before his eyes, Akita Town was consumed by a sea of fire, utterly destroyed by Satan.
Jack roared in defiance, and perhaps because of his conviction, the mysterious Ruby he had obtained years ago in Lapland was activated.
And so, time reversed. Everything was Rebooted.
Akita Town returned to a time before its destruction.
The miracle-like event stunned Jack. He himself had not been Rebooted and was still injured, but fortunately, he figured out how to use the Ruby and healed his wounds.
After this, he urgently contacted the FBI. The situation was so severe that a fully armed military force was needed to nip Satan in the bud.
But another unexpected event occurred. Akita Town’s external communications were cut off for unknown reasons. Jack couldn’t even leave the town’s vicinity; he was blocked on all sides by invisible barriers, like invisible walls.
With no other choice, Jack had to put the matter aside and focus on tracking down the source of Satan.
This time, he discovered that Akita Town was being corrupted by a malevolent Power. Everyone’s mind, including his own, was being affected, which was why he hadn’t been able to get close to the truth initially.
Jack used a supernatural divination Artifact he carried with him and determined that the metal tin could, to some extent, block the corruption. So, he put on a bizarre-looking Tinfoil Hat.
Unfortunately, the Jack of the second loop failed once again. He watched with his own eyes as Akita Town was engulfed in flames and destroyed by Satan.
After that, time Rebooted, and Jack once again returned to over ten days in the past.
He continued the fight.
On his third attempt, Jack blocked the mental corruption and finally reached the truth. He stormed directly into the mayor’s office, violently interrogated him, and finally learned that Father Natas was behind everything.
He prepared to kill Father Natas and end it all.
However, when the scorching hot bullets from his automatic rifle spun through the air and tore Father Natas into a mangled mess of flesh, the unexpected happened.
A tall, pitch-black Demon burst forth from the unrecognizable corpse and fled.
Jack hunted it relentlessly but failed to kill the Demon. He could only watch helplessly as it grew stronger and stronger, eventually evolving into Satan and destroying Akita Town.
On his fourth attempt, Jack made a large quantity of high explosives and blew Father Natas to smithereens. However, the Demon inside his body still escaped.
The fifth time… The sixth time… The seventh time…
Jack lost count of how many times he tried. Even when he blew up an entire city block, the Demon inside Natas’s body would still escape and continue to evolve while in hiding.
In one of the loops, Jack discovered that children possessed a Power highly lethal to the Demon. He gathered a group of kids, hoping they could kill it.
The result was still failure. Despite his repeated warnings, the children were terrified to the point of collapse the moment they saw the Demon. Even though a few brave kids managed to attack, the damage they inflicted was minimal. In the end, two children even died, leaving Jack wracked with guilt.
Soon, he began the next loop.
