Chapter 141 - 113: Intertwined Fates

Chapter 141: Chapter 113: Intertwined Fates

Looking toward the source of the piano music, Zhou Chen silently made a wish.

’I wish to be restored to my peak condition.’

As the Wishing Star Seed merged with his body, his broken bones began to shift back into place and heal. The bruises and swelling all over his body quickly dissipated, his depleted Essence was replenished, and his damaged mind gradually recovered.

In just a moment, the pain wracking Zhou Chen’s body vanished, and he was back at full strength. However, the Alchemy Battle Armor he wore was in tatters. Its outer shell was shattered, and its internal circuitry, Matrix, and numerous core modules were completely damaged. It was unusable, so he had to take it off.

He picked up the Forbidden Objects he’d dropped, tucking the Megaphone to his waist. With the Bloodthirsty Chainsaw in hand, he walked over to Gentleman’s corpse and hacked it into several pieces. Finally, he conjured a flask of Aluminum Thermite and threw it.

Flames flared up, and the Corrupter’s corpse quickly carbonized, turning into a pile of black ash.

This time, Gentleman had no Death Replacement Puppet to save him.

Unfortunately, Zhou Chen didn’t find any loot on the corpse. He didn’t know if the items had returned to Fallen Paradise’s possession, like the Magic Wand, or if Gentleman simply had no other Artifacts on him.

After a brief search, he prepared to rendezvous with Ya Yi. As for the eerie piano music coming from the auditorium, he decided it would be best to find Ya Yi first before going to investigate.

At that moment, an ancient doorway known as the Gate of Heaven was gradually opening under the effect of a Secret Ceremony. A peaceful Holy Light, like that from the dawn of creation, descended and ruthlessly destroyed the Cursed Black Sea. This was a passage connecting to Fallen Paradise. Once it fully opened, more powerful experts from Fallen Paradise would descend.

The Star Association surely had other plans, but a battle between multiple Tier Five beings was by no means a good thing. If too many Crowned Kings were involved, the stability of the Mirror World would be compromised. It could very well cause the devastating battle to spill over into reality. At that point, the entirety of Jinzhu City, along with its neighboring cities, could be obliterated.

Zhou Chen flew to a rooftop and saw a blinding light in the distance. In the middle of a vast and complex Secret Ceremony inscribed on the ground, an ancient, monolithic gate stood. Around it, space itself seemed to have shattered, revealing countless mirror-like facets that reflected a dizzying light.

Its mere existence was overwhelming the Mirror World, causing it to show signs of fracturing. The location had already become a nexus between the Mirror World and reality.

However, the Gate of Heaven had not opened. As his eyes stung, Zhou Chen saw illusory musical notes binding the entire gate like chains, preventing it from opening.

Those were the piano notes rising from the auditorium.

Zhou Chen was stunned. ’Could the person playing the piano in the auditorium be an ally?’

’An Ascender who can restrain the Gate of Heaven… they’d have to be Tier Five, at the very least, right?’

BOOM!

An explosion drew Zhou Chen’s attention, and he turned to look.

The androgynous-looking Lover was locked in a fierce battle with Ya Yi, who was clad in the Raven Battle Armor. Having already lost an arm, Lover was covered in blood and clearly at a disadvantage. In the span of just two seconds, Ya Yi’s Long Saber carved several more gashes into his body, deep enough to expose bone. In a panic, Lover threw a grenade, but Ya Yi dodged it with ease.

If Lover hadn’t known he wasn’t suited for combat and prepared numerous life-saving Artifacts in advance, he would have fallen to the blade long ago.

He was a Tier Two Ascender, but his Extraordinary Abilities weren’t suited for direct combat. They were more suited for an information broker with countless loyal sycophants and spies. Few could compare to him when it came to creating loyal puppets. But in a life-or-death battle, ten of him combined would be no match for Ya Yi.

Finding the right moment, Zhou Chen drew his Revolver: Sand Shadow and fired two shots at Lover.

BANG! BANG!

The two shots hit Lover’s shadow, but the damage manifested entirely on his physical body. Blood splattered as two holes were bored straight through his torso.

Lover grunted, his body stiffening for an instant from the searing pain. In that moment, Ya Yi’s Long Saber shrieked as it slashed down.

With the sound of crashing thunder and a demonic shriek, the blade easily sliced open Lover’s chest. Skin, flesh, and even bone were cleaved in two, revealing his violently contracting lungs.

“The last ’Lover’ I met got the beatdown of a lifetime. How do you want to die?” Zhou Chen said, emerging from the reflection of a building. Lover’s pupils contracted as he realized Gentleman had likely already been killed.

In the instant he was distracted, Ya Yi’s Long Saber swept out coldly. Blood arced through the air as Lover’s head rolled to the ground. A few Artifacts on his body flared with white light and vanished in the next moment.

“What do we do about that thing?” Zhou Chen asked after putting two more rounds into the corpse, his gaze shifting to the distant Gate of Heaven.

“As long as we destroy the Secret Ceremony, we can close the projection of the Gate of Heaven…”

The words had barely left Ya Yi’s lips when, accompanied by a series of CRUNCHING and SNAPPING sounds, the projection of the Gate of Heaven… began to collapse?

The invisible chains of melody sealing the gate suddenly tightened, and the solemn notes erupted with a cold killing intent. Amidst an earth-shattering rumble, cracks began to spiderweb across the Gate of Heaven as stone fragments crumbled away.

DONG! DONG! DONG!

Deafening, violent impacts echoed from the other side of the gate, like a torrential squall hammering against a window. Someone was trying to break through the blockade and forcibly blast the gate open.

As the chains of notes constricted, the Gate of Heaven began to break apart. Finally, with a cataclysmic BOOM that sounded like a colossal bell shattering, the ancient gate exploded. It was ground into fine dust by the musical chains, and the resulting hurricane of force instantly threw both of them back. Their vision went black, and their ears were left ringing.
