Lord of Perverted Ladies
Chapter 185: Divergence
The other Adrian smiled.
"Now you get to meet yourself."
Adrian stared at him.
Behind that single figure, millions of worlds were moving.
Not slowly.
They were collapsing toward one another.
Entire cities appeared for a second before being swallowed by another sky. Different versions of the same people crossed through one another like reflections on broken glass.
Adrian saw his mother.
Then another mother.
Then another.
Some were smiling.
Some were crying.
Some had never met him.
His father appeared in one world as a stranger.
In another, he was never there.
Cael existed in thousands of variations.
Echo existed in fewer.
The Null existed in almost none.
And Adrian—
Adrian was everywhere.
A king.
A child.
A monster.
A god.
A nobody.
A writer.
A prisoner.
A creator.
A destroyer.
A man who lived an ordinary life and never discovered anything supernatural.
A man who discovered everything and lost everyone.
A man who had never been born.
Adrian’s stomach twisted.
"No."
The other Adrian tilted his head.
"No?"
"I don’t want this."
"That’s the point."
The first crack widened.
A version of Adrian stepped through.
Then another.
Then another.
They didn’t attack.
They simply stood there.
Watching.
Adrian looked around.
"Why are they coming here?"
The other Adrian answered.
"Because this world became the center."
"The center of what?"
"Choice."
Adrian frowned.
"That doesn’t make sense."
"You are the one version who reached the end without becoming what you were supposed to become."
Adrian looked at him.
"What was I supposed to become?"
The other Adrian smiled.
"Me."
Silence.
Adrian’s mother stepped forward.
"Stay away from him."
The other Adrian looked at her.
For a moment, his expression softened.
"Mother."
She froze.
Adrian looked at her.
"You know him?"
She shook her head.
"No."
The other Adrian laughed quietly.
"She remembers."
His mother looked away.
"I remember a possibility."
"That is enough."
Adrian stepped between them.
"Stop talking around me."
The other Adrian looked directly at him.
"You want the truth?"
"Yes."
"You weren’t the first Adrian."
Adrian felt the words hit him.
He had heard something similar before.
His primordial brother had once claimed the name Adrian.
But this was different.
"You’re saying you’re the first?"
"No."
The other Adrian shook his head.
"I am the Adrian who came after the first failure."
Adrian’s eyes narrowed.
"Nameless?"
"No."
"Then who?"
The other Adrian pointed toward the endless worlds.
"Every time you made a choice, another version of you was created."
"That doesn’t sound right."
"It doesn’t have to."
Cael stepped forward.
"I can confirm that."
Adrian looked at him.
Cael’s eyes were moving rapidly.
"I can see the possibilities now."
He looked terrified.
"Every choice doesn’t create another universe."
"Then what does?"
"Every choice creates a direction."
Cael pointed toward the other Adrian.
"And he’s standing at the end of one of those directions."
The other Adrian smiled.
"Exactly."
Adrian looked at him.
"What direction?"
The other Adrian answered immediately.
"Control."
The word hung in the air.
Adrian’s face hardened.
"You became a Creator."
"No."
"A god?"
"No."
"Then what?"
"I became something worse."
The other Adrian raised his hand.
The worlds behind him stopped.
Every possibility froze.
Every person.
Every city.
Every universe.
Everything.
Adrian felt it immediately.
Choice had disappeared.
His chest tightened.
The Null stepped backward.
"Wrong."
The little creature’s voice trembled.
"No choice."
The other Adrian looked at it.
"You understand."
The Null hid behind Echo.
Adrian stared at the other version of himself.
"You removed choice."
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because I learned."
"Learned what?"
"That choice hurts."
Adrian’s expression changed.
The other Adrian continued.
"I watched myself lose people."
"I watched myself fail."
"I watched worlds collapse."
"I watched people make terrible decisions."
"I watched love become grief."
"I watched freedom become suffering."
"So I fixed it."
Adrian shook his head.
"You didn’t fix anything."
"I gave everyone certainty."
"You took their freedom."
"I gave them peace."
"You don’t get to decide that."
The other Adrian smiled.
"That’s exactly what you used to say."
Adrian froze.
The other Adrian stepped closer.
"You remember now."
A memory flashed.
Adrian standing in a ruined city.
People screaming.
His hands covered in blood.
The other Adrian standing beside him.
Not another version.
His own reflection.
"You can stop this."
"How?"
"Take control."
Adrian had refused.
The memory disappeared.
He stumbled.
The other Adrian spoke quietly.
"You rejected control once."
"And you accepted it."
"Yes."
"Why?"
"Because someone had to."
Adrian shook his head.
"No one had to."
"Someone always does."
"No."
Adrian looked around at his family.
"That is the lie."
The other Adrian frowned.
Adrian continued.
"There doesn’t have to be someone standing above everyone."
"There doesn’t have to be someone deciding what happens."
"There doesn’t have to be someone saving everyone."
The other Adrian’s smile disappeared.
Adrian took another step.
"People can fail."
"People can hurt each other."
"People can lose."
"And they can still choose what happens next."
The other Adrian stared at him.
"You still believe that?"
"Yes."
"Even after everything?"
"Yes."
"Even knowing how many people will suffer?"
Adrian hesitated.
That question hurt.
Because he knew the answer wasn’t simple.
He couldn’t promise that everyone would be safe.
He couldn’t promise that every choice would lead somewhere good.
He couldn’t promise that love wouldn’t end in loss.
But—
"Yes."
The other Adrian’s eyes narrowed.
"Why?"
Adrian looked at his family.
His mother.
His father.
Cael.
Echo.
The Null.
The man without a name.
Then he looked back at himself.
"Because I don’t need the world to be perfect to live in it."
The other Adrian said nothing.
Adrian continued.
"I don’t need every choice to be good."
"I don’t need every person to stay."
"I don’t need to control what happens."
"I just need the chance to choose what I do next."
The other Adrian stared at him.
Then he laughed.
Not mockingly.
Almost sadly.
"You really became human."
Adrian frowned.
"Yeah."
The other Adrian looked toward the countless worlds.
"That was the one thing I couldn’t understand."
"What?"
"Why anyone would willingly become human."
Adrian smiled.
"Because humans are idiots."
Echo raised his hand.
"True."
Cael nodded.
"Extremely."
His father sighed.
Adrian’s mother smiled despite herself.
The other Adrian watched them.
For the first time, he looked lonely.
"That’s what I couldn’t reproduce."
Adrian’s expression softened.
"What?"
"Family."
Silence.
The other Adrian looked at Adrian.
"I had everything."
"Every possibility."
"Every world."
"Every answer."
"But nobody stayed."
Adrian understood.
He had created certainty.
But certainty had no reason to remain.
The other Adrian had removed risk.
And in doing so, he had removed the reason people chose one another.
Adrian stepped forward.
"You can come with us."
The other Adrian looked surprised.
"What?"
"You heard me."
"You’re inviting me?"
"Yeah."
"After everything I’ve done?"
Adrian shrugged.
"I’ve forgiven worse."
His mother looked at him.
Adrian glanced at her.
She smiled.
The other Adrian looked down.
"You don’t understand."
"Probably."
"If I enter your world, the others will follow."
Adrian looked at the millions of frozen possibilities.
"Then don’t bring them."
"I can’t stop them."
"Why?"
"Because they’re me."
Adrian thought about that.
Then smiled.
"Maybe that’s the problem."
The other Adrian frowned.
Adrian walked closer.
"You think every possibility has to become real."
"No."
"You do."
"You’ve seen them."
"Yes."
"You know what happens if they aren’t allowed to exist."
Adrian looked at the endless worlds.
"I know."
Then he looked at the other Adrian.
"But possibility isn’t obligation."
Cael’s eyes widened.
Adrian continued.
"Just because something can happen doesn’t mean it has to."
The words echoed through the endless space.
Something changed.
One of the frozen worlds disappeared.
Then another.
Then another.
Not destroyed.
Simply allowed to remain possibilities.
The other Adrian stared.
"You..."
Adrian smiled.
"I finally understand Cael."
Cael blinked.
"What?"
"You don’t have to remember every possibility."
Cael’s eyes softened.
"You just need to choose the one you’re living."
The endless worlds began fading.
The millions of Adrians slowly disappeared.
Not dying.
Returning to possibility.
The other Adrian remained.
He looked at Adrian.
"What happens to me?"
Adrian thought for a moment.
"You choose."
The other Adrian laughed.
"You really don’t understand."
"No."
Adrian smiled. ℯℯ𝑙.
"But I know someone who does."
He stepped aside.
The Null walked forward.
The little being looked up at the other Adrian.
"You choose."
The other Adrian stared at it.
"You were once nothing."
The Null nodded.
"Now possibility."
"Why did you choose to stay?"
The Null looked back at Echo.
Then Adrian.
Then the family.
"Because they stayed."
The other Adrian looked at the group.
For a long time, he said nothing.
Then he closed his eyes.
When he opened them again, the endless worlds were gone.
Only one remained.
This one.
The other Adrian took a breath.
"I don’t know how to live here."
Adrian smiled.
"Neither did I."
A faint laugh escaped the other Adrian.
Then something unexpected happened.
His body began changing.
Not disappearing.
Changing.
The impossible glow around him faded.
The countless memories behind his eyes became quieter.
His presence became smaller.
Human.
He looked down at his hands.
"What happened?"
Adrian shrugged.
"You chose."
The other Adrian stared at him.
Then looked toward the house.
"Do I have a name?"
Adrian thought about it.
"You’re Adrian."
The man smiled.
"No."
He shook his head.
"I don’t want to take yours."
Adrian nodded.
"Then choose one."
The man looked toward the others.
He saw Echo.
Cael.
The Null.
Their mother.
Their father.
The unnamed first friend.
Finally, he looked at Adrian.
"I think..."
He hesitated.
"I want to be called Noah."
Adrian blinked.
For some reason, the name felt familiar.
Not in a cosmic way.
Just human.
"Alright."
Noah smiled.
"Alright."
The sky finally closed.
The cracks disappeared.
The city returned outside the window.
Cars moved.
People walked.
Lights turned on.
The world continued as if nothing had happened.
Adrian looked around.
For once, reality wasn’t ending.
That was nice.
His mother walked into the kitchen.
"Food."
Echo immediately followed.
"Food."
The Null followed Echo.
"Food."
Cael sighed and followed them.
His father looked at Adrian.
"Coming?"
Adrian looked at Noah.
Noah stood silently in the middle of the room.
Adrian walked over and placed a hand on his shoulder.
"Come on."
"Where?"
"Dinner."
Noah looked confused.
"I’ve never had dinner."
Adrian stared at him.
"That’s actually more concerning than the cosmic stuff."
Noah laughed.
They walked toward the kitchen.
Behind them, the empty room remained silent.
On the table sat the old wooden car.
Its four circles had changed.
Three were filled.
One was empty.
Now, slowly—
The fourth circle filled itself.
And beneath it, new words appeared.
CHOICE DOES NOT CREATE THE FUTURE.
A second line appeared.
CHOICE CREATES THE PERSON WHO WALKS INTO IT.
Then one final message.
NEXT: THE ONE WHO WAS NEVER CHOSEN.
The wooden car stopped moving.
Outside, somewhere beyond the ordinary world, something opened its eyes.
And this time—
Adrian didn’t know what it was.
