Lord of All Gods
Chapter 3403
A seemingly friendly soldier came over, greeted Ye Liuyun, and arranged for him to stay nearby.
“Brother, my name is Liao Yaotian. What should I call you?”
“Ye Liuyun. Thanks!” Ye Liuyun quickly thanked Liao Yaotian in return.
“There’s no need to be so polite. From now on, we’re brothers who’ll live or die together! Since you just got here, ask me anything you don’t understand.” Liao Yaotian was quite a friendly and outgoing person.
While learning the rules here from Liao Yaotian, Ye Liuyun also used his Golden Eyes and divine sense to investigate the situation.
The soldiers here were probably all about as strong as his avatar, so their combat prowess could not be considered impressive. Only the junior commander, Xiao Han, was at the second level of the Taixu Realm.
Liao Yaotian was also very perceptive. Whenever Ye Liuyun looked at someone, he would give him a brief introduction. When he saw Ye Liuyun look toward Xiao Han, however, Liao Yaotian immediately switched to transmitting his voice to him.
“That guy keeps volunteering for dangerous missions so he can earn merit and get promoted. Ever since he arrived, our unit has never been at full strength. Every time we go out on a mission, people die.
“But he should be leaving soon! We’re all just here to hold down a job. Nobody wants to follow that madman out to risk their lives. If you’re lucky, you might not even get assigned to a mission with him.
“But even if you do, don’t worry. Stick with me, and I guarantee you’ll make it back alive.”
Judging from Liao Yaotian’s tone, the soldiers were all quite dissatisfied with Xiao Han.
“Then I’ll thank you in advance, Brother Tian!” After chatting with Liao Yaotian for a while, Ye Liuyun had grown quite familiar with him.
Liao Yaotian seemed to be well liked. Quite a few of the soldiers here greeted him as Brother Tian, so Ye Liuyun followed suit.
Through his conversations with Liao Yaotian, Ye Liuyun also learned the general situation here.
Yunxiao City was a garrison city with one hundred thousand soldiers stationed inside. The garrison was the dominant force in the city, and even the city lord’s manor did not dare offend them, making the city absolutely safe.
The exiles and refugees outside did not dare target the city either. However, the soldiers often had to leave the city to suppress exiles who were causing serious trouble, and would capture some slaves while they were at it. From time to time, individuals would also come into the city to cause trouble.
Selling slaves was also the local garrison’s main source of income. Without capturing slaves, they would have virtually no income at all. Exiles often gathered outside the city to rob and kill people, so they were never short of slaves.
Occasionally, powerful experts passed through the starry sky, but it was never the soldiers’ turn to intervene. The planet as a whole was not very prosperous either, so no powerful experts took an interest in it.
Other than that, there were no particularly serious dangers. As for large-scale wars, there were none here at all.
“So, would you say this place is relatively safe?” Ye Liuyun asked Liao Yaotian.
“Mm. As long as you don’t go looking for trouble, I’d say it’s relatively safe!” Liao Yaotian felt the same way.
Through their conversations, Liao Yaotian also learned that Ye Liuyun was from the Immortal Realm. He did not look down on Ye Liuyun, however.
“What difference does it make? We’re all martial cultivators! In fact, martial cultivators from the Immortal Realm like you have seen more of the world. You were top-level existences in your own world, and you’ll do just as well here.”
In fact, he was quite optimistic about Ye Liuyun. He also told him a great deal about the differences between the Immortal Realm and the Taixu World. However, the martial path’s rule of respecting the strong and preying on the weak was the same everywhere.
Ye Liuyun thus stayed in the military camp. As long as no one made trouble for him, he was easygoing by nature. These soldiers all came from poor backgrounds, and no one wanted anything from him or sought to compete with him, so he got along very well with everyone.
Only Xiao Han rarely spoke with the soldiers, devoting most of his time to cultivation. Ye Liuyun was not influenced by the other soldiers. He felt there was nothing wrong with Xiao Han having goals of his own and working hard to pursue them.
He also began cultivating in earnest. His physical body could now withstand the heavy pressure here, but he still had to familiarize himself with and adapt to the suppression imposed by heaven and earth on his other abilities.
Now that his Spatial Force had entered the Taixu World, it could only tear open a single layer of the void. Even the power of heaven and earth had weakened considerably.
His soul power was especially strong, yet the range he could investigate was now very limited. Thus, in addition to continuing to familiarize himself with how to use his soul power in the Taixu World, he was also refining the soul essence extracted by the Soul Refining Cauldron.
The suppression of heaven and earth here placed considerable limitations on every aspect of his strength. For a while, Ye Liuyun even felt as though he were starting over from scratch.
At present, aside from his divine essence, which he deliberately refrained from cultivating too much for fear of causing his avatar’s cultivation to advance too quickly as well, he needed to constantly familiarize himself with and improve his use of all his other powers.
Therefore, after staying there for several days, he actually began looking forward to Xiao Han taking on a combat mission, so that he could go out and test his strength against some opponents.
Just as everyone had said, Xiao Han went to the main military tent every morning to see whether there were any combat missions available. The soldiers also paid close attention to this moment each day, watching to see whether he would bring back a mission.
That morning, Xiao Han returned from the main command tent, striding along energetically and looking excited.
“It’s over, it’s over. We’re going out to risk our lives again!”
Liao Yaotian, who was standing very close to Ye Liuyun, immediately noticed that something was off about Xiao Han.
“Assemble!”
Before Xiao Han even entered the camp tent, he shouted from outside.
The soldiers all wore bitter expressions as they trudged out slowly, clearly unwilling to go. Ye Liuyun, however, was quite enthusiastic. He pulled Liao Yaotian outside and stood beside him.
Liao Yaotian was a shrewd man and was always enthusiastic about forming ranks. Only when it was time to risk his life would he hang back. Thus, Xiao Han normally could not tell that he was reluctant.
“What are you dragging your feet for? Going out on missions is a chance for you to temper yourselves. Do you really want to spend your whole lives holed up in the military camp as ordinary soldiers?”
Xiao Han began lecturing the soldiers.
In the end, he could only use his trump card: “Anyone who keeps dragging their feet will be at the very front when we fight later!”
Only after hearing this did the soldiers speed up as they formed ranks.
Xiao Han cast the soldiers a dissatisfied glance before announcing the mission: “About five hundred miles to the northwest, there’s a group of newly arrived exiles who have been robbing, killing, and plundering resources everywhere. On the orders of the grand commander, we’re going to wipe them out today—and capture as many of them alive as possible.
“There are more than forty of them, including two at the second level of the Taixu Realm! Everyone, stay sharp and cooperate with one another in battle. Otherwise, many of you won’t be coming back today!”
Xiao Han also gave the soldiers a few more instructions.
From Xiao Han’s words, Ye Liuyun felt that he did not seem like someone who disregarded the soldiers’ lives and cared only about getting promoted and rich. Most likely, the soldiers were simply afraid of death, which was why they resented Xiao Han.
After announcing the order, Xiao Han immediately commanded the soldiers to form up and set out. He looked eager to get started, while the soldiers all grew tense. Clearly, quite a few of them were genuinely afraid of death.
