Longevity with a Turtle
Chapter 147 - 115: Lifespan Extension Pill
Chapter 147: Chapter 115: Lifespan Extension Pill
Afterward, he opened Ruan Tieniu’s letter. It had been placed in the post box in June, and its contents were quite simple. It merely asked when Chen Jianghe would come out of seclusion and expressed a desire to meet him.
"Ruan Tieniu is in a rush to see me? What urgent matter could he possibly have? Could it be related to Alchemist Zhuang?" Chen Jianghe wondered.
With this thought in mind, he opened Jiang Ruxu’s letter, which also mentioned Ruan Tieniu.
The letter stated that Ruan Tieniu had paid a visit, seemingly seeking a favor from Alchemist Zhuang. However, he had hemmed and hawed the entire time and left without ever stating what he actually wanted. Furthermore, he had mentioned Chen Jianghe during the visit.
Because of this, Alchemist Zhuang had sent Jiang Ruxu to ask Chen Jianghe about it. Seeing the sign hanging on his door, she had no choice but to leave a written message.
"What exactly is going on with Ruan Tieniu? He sought out Alchemist Zhuang and even mentioned me?"
Chen Jianghe thought about it but couldn’t recall any other interactions he had with Ruan Tieniu. The only connection they had was when he asked Ruan Tieniu to help sell Spirit Talismans and purchase a few Demon Beast physical bodies.
Most importantly, Ruan Tieniu had also written to him, seemingly desperate to see him. This meant the matter truly involved him. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have written the letter. After all, their agreed-upon meetings were always at the beginning of the year.
Putting these thoughts aside, he opened Zhou Miaoyun’s letter.
This was the most recent letter, and its contents were filled with praise for Yu Daniu. It mentioned that her niece had written home. The Yun Family treated her very well, especially her parents-in-law, who treated her like their own daughter and provided her with a massive amount of Cultivation Resources. She had already cultivated to the Fifth-Layer Qi Refining.
This letter brought great joy to the Zhou Family. After all, since their daughter was valued after marrying into the family, it meant she hadn’t jumped into a fire pit. Initially, they all believed that Yun Wuniu had poor character and felt their daughter would suffer after marrying him.
Who could have imagined she would enjoy such a blessed life?
Being so highly valued, she would certainly be able to break through to Late-Stage Qi Refining in the future. If she were to bear a few more sons for the Yun Family, she would undoubtedly be valued even more.
The purpose of Zhou Miaoyun’s letter to Chen Jianghe was to ask him to pass on her gratitude to Yu Daniu. After all, the two of them were now in-laws, making certain things awkward to state directly.
Sitting in his chair, Chen Jianghe held Zhou Miaoyun’s letter, feeling a mix of helplessness and speechlessness. Finally, he laughed out of sheer exasperation.
If Fifth Brother hadn’t been such a bastard, what a wonderful life this could have been.
He chose not to reply to either of them, unwilling to get involved in such messy family affairs. With that kind of free time, he might as well draw a few more Spirit Talismans.
"An invitation letter? Doesn’t that mean 9:00 PM tonight!"
Opening Gao Peiyao’s letter, he found an invitation for him to head to the Hundred Treasures Tower to attend this year’s Mid-Autumn Auction, which was set to begin at 9:00 PM. In her letter, Gao Peiyao stated that this auction was extraordinary. The treasures being auctioned were rare finds scarcely seen in decades, and she wanted him to go and broaden his horizons.
"I suppose I could go take a look at the auction," he thought. It would broaden his horizons without wasting too much time.
Checking the time, he saw it was still early outside.
He walked into the courtyard and first checked on the two Spirit Beasts’ work progress. The two Mid-Stage Tier One Wind Wolves had already been completely processed. Their blood and flesh, Heart Marrow, and Spirit Cores had all been eaten by Fur Ball.
According to Little Black, Mid-Stage Tier One Spirit Cores were of little use to him, so it was more cost-effective to let Fur Ball eat them. Chen Jianghe greatly appreciated this trait of Little Black’s. Although he was utterly merciless when striking Fur Ball, Little Black was never stingy when it came to treating the creature well.
"Little Black, stop for a moment. We’re heading out, and we’ll sell the Demon Beast hides and furs you’ve processed along the way."
Chen Jianghe called for Little Black and Fur Ball to stop and had them enter the Spirit Beast Space.
His Storage Pouch was too small, the Wind Wolves were enormous, and there was a lot of Spirit Blood. Just for these two, he would have to make two trips to the Beast Taming Workshop, not to mention waiting to process the Flaming Fox and sell it all together.
However, Spirit Stones were currently in short supply, and he still needed to purchase Body Refining Techniques. Replacing his Storage Pouch would have to be put on hold for now.
He took the various parts of the two Wind Wolves to the Beast Taming Workshop and sold them off. In total, he received two Spirit Stones and thirty-five grains of Spiritual Sand. He then bought fifty wooden buckets.
This was equivalent to netting one Spirit Stone and eighty-five grains of Spiritual Sand.
This was quite a good haul, more than what he used to make raising fish on the outskirts of Jingyue Lake, and he still had two Demon Beasts at home that hadn’t been fully processed yet. Late-Stage Tier One Demon Beasts were where the real money was.
After placing the newly bought buckets at home, Chen Jianghe made his way to Ruan Tieniu’s Courtyard 514. Looking at the "Out" sign hanging on the courtyard gate, he knew Ruan Tieniu had ventured into the Youxian Mountain Range.
Demon Hunters spent at most one month a year in the Marketplace; the rest of their time was spent in the Youxian Mountain Range. This was also why the average lifespan of a Demon Hunter was only fifty years.
The job was simply too dangerous. But if they didn’t do it, they wouldn’t obtain Cultivation Resources.
Seeing the plight of low-tier Demon Hunters, Chen Jianghe couldn’t help but think of the Yun Family’s benefits. At the very least, the Yun Family provided bottom-tier Cultivators with a relatively safe cultivation environment. Although the pay was a bit low, it wasn’t as if there was no chance to rise ahead.
Of course, if you went out to take odd jobs, the Yun Family wouldn’t stop you. If you died, it was your own problem and had nothing to do with the Yun Family.
"Elder Chen."
Right at this moment, a crisp and melodious voice rang out. It was Jiang Ruxu and Zhuang Xinyan arriving at Qingping Alley.
"Elder Chen," Zhuang Xinyan called out timidly once they approached.
"It’s the two of you. What brings you here?" Chen Jianghe said to the two women as he returned to his courtyard gate.
"To look for you, of course, Elder," Jiang Ruxu said with a beaming smile. "Did you see the letter I left?"
"Yes." Chen Jianghe nodded.
"Do you know why that Fellow Daoist Ruan was looking for my Master, Elder?" Jiang Ruxu asked curiously.
"I have no idea. I just went to look for Fellow Daoist Ruan and saw an ’Out’ sign hanging on his door. He must have gone to the Youxian Mountain Range," Chen Jianghe said flatly. "Let’s talk about it when he gets back. Did you two come looking for me just for this?"
"Of course not! Master would like to invite you to the Hundred Treasures Tower to attend tonight’s auction. I heard there’s going to be some truly good stuff!" Jiang Ruxu said, a mysterious expression appearing on her face.
As for Zhuang Xinyan beside her, she kept her head down for almost the entire time. Aside from her initial greeting, she hadn’t said a single word. She and the lively, spirited Jiang Ruxu had completely different personalities.
However, Chen Jianghe was also very curious.
Wasn’t the Alchemy Dao something only people with calm and steady personalities engaged in? How could a lively and active woman like Jiang Ruxu possess such high talent in the Alchemy Dao? Conversely, why would a quiet and innocent woman like Zhuang Xinyan cause the furnace to explode six times out of ten when concocting pills?
It was truly baffling.
Promptly, Chen Jianghe asked, "Where is Alchemist Zhuang?"
"My Master is waiting at the Hundred Treasures Tower." Jiang Ruxu then said mysteriously, "You might not know this, Elder, but you need an invitation letter to enter the Hundred Treasures Tower auction this time.
"One invitation letter can only bring two people. Master went through a lot of trouble just to get two invitations."
"Is that so?" Chen Jianghe smiled.
"Of course! Master received news that there will be a Lifespan Extension Pill up for auction this time. The Foundation Establishment Ancestors from many families have come."
"A Lifespan Extension Pill!" Chen Jianghe was startled.
He had read about the Lifespan Extension Pill in the Yun Family Magazine. It was a Tier Two Lower-Grade Spirit Pill, but it could extend a Cultivator’s lifespan. A single Lifespan Extension Pill could extend one’s lifespan by ten years.
Most importantly, the effects of the Lifespan Extension Pill could stack. However, the effect of consuming a second pill would be halved, decreasing exponentially with each subsequent pill. After consuming four pills, they would no longer have any effect. In reality, taking a third Lifespan Extension Pill wasn’t cost-effective at all, considering their exorbitant price.
If someone actually managed to consume four pills, their lifespan could be extended by nearly twenty years.
Chen Jianghe didn’t actually need a Lifespan Extension Pill. He already had a long lifespan, capable of outliving even Foundation Establishment Cultivators.
Instead, he was pondering in his heart.
"If I took a Lifespan Extension Pill, would it increase my own lifespan, Little Black’s lifespan, or would both of our lifespans increase simultaneously?"
"Are you going, Elder? The auction starts at 9:00 PM," Jiang Ruxu asked generously, prompting him.
This question made Zhuang Xinyan nervous, and she involuntarily tightened her grip on Jiang Ruxu’s arm. In her view, this was disrespectful to a senior.
Chen Jianghe didn’t mind at all. He was just an Eighth-Layer Qi Refining Cultivator; there was no need to take himself too seriously as a "senior."
"Let’s go. We’ll broaden our horizons."
