"Form a line and come one by one. No shouting, no shoving, and no cutting."

In a city within the Mortal Realm, Song Changyang gazed at the seemingly endless line before him and felt utterly dejected. There were simply too many people.

Two hundred thousand. What a terrifying number.

He suddenly found himself envying the few clan members sent to preside over the Immortal Ascension Conference in the family's domain within the Mortal Realm. If nothing else, their workload was at least several times lighter than his.

Just then, another child stumbled out of the Spirit Testing Chamber, crestfallen. Without a word, he squatted by the entrance and began to wail.

Seeing this, the child's parents rushed over to pull him away. Before they left, they bowed obsequiously and apologized profusely to Song Changyang.

Song Changyang waved his hand dismissively, an impassive expression on his face. This was a common sight, one he was long used to.

The emergence of a Spirit Root was a rare event, after all. Sometimes you could test hundreds, even thousands, of people without finding a single one.

As such, Spirit Testing was an incredibly dull and tedious task.

"Next," Song Changyang said coolly.

Just then, two young boys approached together. Song Changyang did a double-take the moment he saw them. Their height, clothes, and even their faces were so similar that it was nearly impossible to tell them apart with the naked eye.

The only difference between them was the ties binding their hair—one was black, the other white.

A flicker of interest sparked in Song Changyang. "Twins?"

"Yes, Immortal Envoy."

The one who answered was the boy with the black hair tie. Despite his youth, he was remarkably composed. His steps were light, and his gaze never wavered. Facing this "Immortal," Song Changyang, he showed no trace of fear, his words clear yet respectful.

In contrast, the boy with the white hair tie was like a bundle of curiosity, his eyes darting all over the place ever since he came forward. He kept stealing glances at Song Changyang, looking like he was bursting to say something but holding himself back.

"Young man, what are you looking at?" Song Changyang asked, his own curiosity piqued.

The boy seemed surprised that his small movements had been noticed. He scratched his head sheepishly. "My mother said you're an Immortal, but I see you have one nose, two eyes, and one mouth, just like us. You don't seem any different."

The moment he said this, the boy beside him paled. He quickly tugged on his brother's sleeve, warning him not to speak so freely.

But Song Changyang wasn't offended at all. He laughed heartily. "Your mother was mistaken. I'm no Immortal, just an ordinary Cultivator. I was born to a mother and father, just like you, so of course we're no different."

The boy was visibly disappointed to hear that, but he perked up a moment later. "Then have you ever seen a real Immortal?"

Song Changyang paused, then shook his head. "Immortals are the stuff of legends. How could I have ever met one?

I have personally witnessed the power of our Clan Leader and Supreme Elder. They can shatter mountains and cleave rivers with a single wave of their hand. But even at their level, they are still a far cry from the Immortals of legend.

You probably can't grasp what I'm saying right now. Once you step onto the Immortal Path, you'll understand what the word 'Immortal' truly represents.

Now, go on inside."

Song Changyang stepped aside, gesturing for them to proceed.

The boy who had been asking questions started to walk away, but his brother with the black hair tie pulled him back. The two of them bowed respectfully to Song Changyang before heading toward the Spirit Testing Chamber together.

After they'd walked a short distance, Song Changyang could faintly hear the sounds of scolding, likely the one brother telling the other not to speak so recklessly.

'Two interesting kids.' Song Changyang smiled faintly, a new sliver of anticipation blooming in his heart...

The two brothers pushed open the door and entered the Spirit Testing Chamber. A cool, clear voice immediately sounded in their ears. "Place your hand on the Compass before you."

Hearing this, the boy with the black hair tie took a deep breath and slowly placed his left hand on the Spirit Testing Platform. What followed was a wait that, while not long, felt exceptionally agonizing.

No matter how composed he appeared, he was, in the end, only an eight-year-old boy. It was impossible not to feel nervous when faced with a moment that could decide the course of his entire life.

He saw only a faint, shimmering light radiate from his palm. It then gathered into a bright, thin line that snaked up a pillar behind the Compass.

When the line reached the top of the pillar, the Compass beneath his hand erupted in a brilliant flash of light.

He instinctively threw a hand up to shield his eyes. When the dazzling light subsided and he lowered his arm, he found a beautiful young woman standing before him. He had no idea when she had appeared.

Her eyes seemed to glitter as she looked at him, as if she were gazing upon a piece of pure gold.

"What is your name?" Song Changxue asked, crouching down, her voice gentle.

"My name is Qin Ze, Immortal Envoy."

"Qin Ze, you've done very well. A Five-inch Gold Spirit Root and a Seven-inch Water Spirit Root. Go and wait over there." Song Changxue smiled, gesturing for him to move to the side.

"Gold and Water Dual Spirit Roots?" Qin Ze was stunned for a moment, then his heart swelled with immense joy. Suppressing his excitement, he bowed to Song Changxue and stepped aside, shooting his brother an encouraging look.

Little did he know, he wasn't the only one who was thrilled. Song Changxue was just as excited. She knew she had struck gold today.

She rose and walked over to the other child. "You must be the brother," she said softly. "And what is your name?"
