Chapter 150 - Li Zirui (2)
Shen Zichen left and Li Chuntao didn't dare to chase after him. Now that he finally knew the truth, she had no reason to pretend anymore. She wasn't sure how he found out about the truth of the fire incident but it didn't matter now. The dream she cast on herself had finally faded and now she had to face the bitterness of reality.
She ceased her crying and wiped her tears dry. Her eyes found her bodyguards near the entrance, both shocked and bewildered from what they witnessed, but Li Chuntao knew that they would hold their tongues and wouldn't spread what they'd seen today.
Li Chuntao walked towards them with her cold mask back in place as if her confrontation with Young Master Shen never happened. She looked the same but her eyes were now veiled with emotions none of them could comprehend.
"Let's go," she told them and both were left with no choice but to lead her out of the cemetery, opening the door of the backseat for her to enter, and to drive back to the apartment complex.
Su Ling and Yu Lou weren't surprised to not see Shen Zichen's car that was parked behind them minutes ago. Young Master Shen seemed like he was really angry at their Miss Chuntao, something they hadn't seen before.
In their eyes, Shen Zichen was a stern but easy to get along person. He was also respectful to the Li twins' bodyguards and never gave them a problem before. Those who'd been working closely with the Li twins knew how close he was with them especially to their Miss Chuntao.
They'd never seen or heard them argued or had a big fight before. Su Ling took a quick glance over his dashboard mirror to check on their Miss Chuntao, but she was looking outside the window, deep in her thoughts.
Of course, she didn't fail to notice the skeptical look both of her bodyguards had. Now that Shen Zichen knows the truth, what would happen next?
Li Chuntao had no idea but she tried to push the unwanted thoughts away from her mind. She should have seen it coming, should have known that there were truths she can never keep from him no matter how hard she tried.
How foolish she was to wish for something more from him.
She was a witch after all. Only princesses and fair maidens deserved a happy ending. Someone like her, Li Chuntao doubted. If it wasn't glaringly obvious that the heavens hated her, she didn't know what to expect anymore.
Her parents gone, Ying forcefully taken away from her and her baby didn't even get to breathe when he came. What else could she lose now that Shen Zichen had turned his back on her and abandoned her?
A witch like herself had no future or right to love. This, Li Chuntao learned the hard way. She deserved nothing because she was nothing. If she'd known earlier that she would lose anyone she came to love, she wouldn't dare to open her heart and love them fiercely as she could.
But how can she not love her parents? How can she not love Ying and most of all, how can she not love the person whom she bore for months and had come from the man she loved the most?
Li Chuntao closed her eyes and let a single tear drop from her eye. She needed to get over it soon. Although she was prepared for this to happen, she didn't expect him to find out too soon.
'Zirui, help Mommy to stay strong,'
Her little angel, whom she only held and saw for a few hours before he was taken away from her for good. Her baby, Li Zirui was the most beautiful child she'd seen, not because he was hers, but she couldn't compare him to any other baby she'd seen before.
The fourteen hours she spent with her stillbirth child were etched deep in her memories. He was a healthy, normal baby and if he had been born a couple of days earlier, he'd be here today. However, she delivered him cold and lifeless.
She had taken a lot of pictures of him, made keepsakes, and even kept some locks of his hair to remember him by but it still wasn't enough to stop the overwhelming grief that filled her heart. Li Chuntao felt like she'd failed him as a mother.
---
Meanwhile, Shen Zichen's car sped away from the cemetery, away from Li Chuntao. He was having a hard time controlling the surging emotions that washed through him after everything he found out today.
He couldn't believe he'd failed to connect the pieces of the events prior to Li Chuntao's departure seven years ago. It made sense now why she suddenly left without saying goodbye personally to him and Li Xiuying.
Li Chuntao had left without a word and sent a message to his phone before her flight. It was too late for him to meet her at the airport when he read it. Even Li Xiuying was surprised at Li Chuntao's sudden departure.
How could he not know sooner? Why didn't he realize that it was her all along?
She was the woman he'd been looking for all this time. He'd been looking for her everywhere and hadn't realized that he'd been looking too far when the one he was looking for was just nearby.
Shen Zichen rubbed his temple while his other hand was on the steering wheel. He was beyond confused about what to do and what to believe. He wondered, what else was he supposed to know about Li Chuntao?
His mind then went back to the baby she mentioned earlier. He still couldn't believe that he managed to father a child and what's more with Li Chuntao herself. She said she'd carried their child up to 37 weeks but lost him. A little more and she could have delivered their baby full term.
"Li Zirui" Shen Zichen tested the name of his dead son. It should have felt strange to him but it didn't. He actually liked the name of his child.
At least, Li Chuntao had managed to bestow a name to their child but he was now itching to know what had happened to her and why she lost their baby. Chances of having a stillbirth increases once the gestation reaches the thirty-seventh week and gradually increases up to forty seconds.
Give or take, Li Chuntao was only twenty-one years old when she gave birth to Li Zirui and is considered as a young mother. She must be really scared dealing with the pregnancy alone. Li Chuntao might be a strong woman but she was still young and inexperienced back then. Shen Zichen could only imagine how scared she was when she found out about her pregnancy.
Shen Zichen wasn't ready to go home. Not now. He wasn't ready to see Li Chuntao yet and he wasn't planning to go to the hospital when his mind was clearly disturbed by today's revelations. He didn't want to make a mistake at work, one that he might regret later.
He took a sudden turn and drove towards SY Holdings.. He would need to confirm something with his little sister, Shen Lingqing.
