Chapter 643
It didn’t take long before the Bloody Wolves and Long Feng had climbed up the stairs and reached the top floor. Actually, it was Long Feng who arrived first; but Lu Xinyi’s personal bodyguard had managed to catch up sooner than he expected.
All of them were ready to charge to fight and save Shen Yi and Li Yuren, but the sight before them brought them to an abrupt stop. Shattered glass was scattered everywhere, Li Yuren had a deep gunshot wound on his left shoulder while Shen Yi was covered with scratches on his arms.
They were shocked to see Feng Zexian struggling to keep both men away from him. Shen Yi and Li Yuren didn’t appear like they need help to subdue Feng Zexian at this rate.
Li Yuren stood several meters away from Shen Yi who was pressing Feng Zexian against the wall. Feng Zexian never stood a chance as he gasped for air, clawing at Shen Yi’s wrist helplessly while his feet dangled in the air.
Long Feng stared at Shen Yi’s eyes, and he could tell that he was struggling to contain his anger and hatred he had for the old man. His intimidating stare alone was enough to freeze hell.
“Shen Yi, let him go.” Li Yuren’s voice reached Shen Yi’s ears, but it only made him tighten his hold on Feng Zexian’s throat. “Let him go, Shen Yi. You don’t need to kill him,” he continued. -.
Shen Yi looked at him, but he wasn’t letting the old man go.
Why? Why did Li Yuren want him to release Feng Zexian? This old man had repeatedly threatened his and his family’s life. As long as Feng Zexian was alive, his family would never live in peace.
If Xiao Bai hadn’t managed to protect Qing Qing and the Bloody Wolves secure his wife’s safety, Shen Yi was sure he’d be grieving over their dead bodies by now.
A man like Feng Zexian would never take responsibility for his own actions and would continue to blame everything unto him… when all he did back then was saved Shen Xue and destroyed the illegal den that Feng Zexian was operating.
If he did something bad in the past, why did Lu Xinyi and his family had to suffer?
He didn’t think there would be a day that he’d be able to feel happy and would have his own family. When he told Lu Xinyi the cruel things he did in the past, she never judged him. In fact, she held him tightly.
Shen Yi never told anyone of his fears and insecurity, how he suffered from nightmares after he rescued Shen Xue at the Saffron Boulevard, or that the blood that tainted his hands bothered him.
‘If you want to leave me now, I’ll understand. This isn’t the kind of husband you should have.’ Shen Yi once told his wife, but she only smiled at him.
‘I’m not leaving, Shen Yi. Everyone has a dark part of their lives that no one wanted to talk about,’ she told him.
Meanwhile, Li Yuren didn’t care if Feng Zexian lived or died, but he wasn’t going to let Shen Yi become a murderer. Shen Yi didn’t need to taint his own hands to end this. He just had started his own family, and Feng Zexian’s death would forever haunt him until the day he dies.
Looking at Li Yuren then back at the man on his grasp, Shen Yi sneered and threw the bloody form on Feng Zexian on the floor. However, that didn’t stop the old man to retrieve his gun and tried to shoot him once he turned his back.
Li Yuren had witnessed the scene and pulled the trigger of the gun on his hand and shoot Feng Zexian on his chest twice, not giving him the chance to kill Shen Yi.
“Sneaky bastard!” Feng Zexian yelled at the top of his lungs, his eyes glaring daggers against Li Yuren. He almost had it, almost killed Shen Yi with his own hands; and yet, Li Yuren ruined everything.
“I did say Shen Yi should let you go, but I cannot.” Li Yuren stared down to the old man while the latter heaved deep breaths as he lay on the cold floor. His eyes then found Shen Yi who was also looking back at him with such contempt on his eyes.
Feng Zexian laughed out loud, but it made him aware of the pain on his chest. At the same moment, his eyes started to lose its focus; and he was having a hard time breathing. So this was the end of him? He thought. All of his efforts to return to seek revenge were for the naught.
It would be better this way, Li Yuren thought. He would shoulder the guilt and responsibility for killing this despicable man for Shen Yi’s sake.
“This ends here, Feng Zexian,” he said just as the sirens from the police cars filled the air.
As Feng Zexian’s eyes turned blank, Shen Yi fell on his knees and clutched his side. It only then did Fu Shuren notice that their Boss Yi was also injured during their confrontation with Feng Zexian.
The Fu Siblings hurriedly helped Shen Yi back on his feet and dragged him outside the building where Lu Xinyi was waiting nervously. As soon as she saw her husband, Lu Xinyi flung her arms around him with panic.
“No! Shen Yi! You better look at me! You promised me…” She sobbed as she held her husband. “You promise me we’ll go home together. You cannot leave me.”
“Xinxin…” Shen Yi stared at his wife, half-lidded. He lifted his bloody right hand and gently touched her wet cheek. “It’s over. No one will hurt you and Qing Qing again…” he whispered before shutting his eyes close. He could feel his energy depleting, his whole body begging him to sleep and to rest.
Blood had already seeped on Shen Yi’s clothes, and he already lost consciousness.
“What happened?!” she asked Fu Shuren as they put Shen Yi with the paramedics. On the other side, Li Yuren was placed on a stretcher by Long Feng and was rushed to the hospital.
“We arrived too late, Miss. Feng Zexian is dead, but Boss Yi and General Li are severely wounded when we found them,” Fu Rui explained to their miss.
Lu Xinyi rode the ambulance with her husband as they rushed to the hospital while the paramedics checked over him. Once they arrived at the hospital, Zhang Jingwei came rushing towards them, panic-stricken.
“Xinxin!” Zhang Jingwei looked over her daughter-in-law while her son was being wheeled towards the operating room. “Are you alright?”
Lu Xinyi held into her arms and cried, “Mom, will he be alright?”
“Hush, please don’t cry. He’s in good hands. I know the surgeon who’ll operate on him. Yi wouldn’t leave us like this; I promise you.” Zhang Jingwei led Lu Xinyi away from the operating room.
“Lu Xinyi?” Lu Xinyi looked up when she heard her name being called. Two policemen walked towards them and regarded her. “The Sun Estate had been burned down to the ground. Witnesses said you and Miss Feiyan were there to visit your aunt. Your aunt is dead. Madam Shen, can you tell us what happened?”
