Life Through the American TV Show World
Chapter 938 - 937: The Reckless Army Doc Wants to Outshine Adam
Medical Center.
"No more questions, right?"
The soldier-turned-medic, a battle-hardened king of the field, scanned the room. Seeing no one speak up, he nodded. "Alright, let's get started."
With that, he stepped over and slowly pulled back the curtain behind him.
The room erupted in gasps.
Six massive pigs were tied up, lying on their backs, silent, with monitors hooked up to them. Their heartbeats beeped steadily—they'd clearly been sedated.
"Live treatment?"
Christina finally caught on to what this hardcore army medic was up to. A smirk tugged at her lips as she muttered, "You really are a freak."
"One pig per resident, interns assist…" The army medic looked at everyone. "Of course, if any intern thinks they can handle it solo, go for it. Sort it out among yourselves—I just need these six pigs alive when you're done."
He pulled a military knife from his chest pocket and stabbed it straight into the side of one pig's flank.
The move was so slick that, before anyone realized it, all six pigs had a knife wound.
"Start saving them!"
The army medic wiped the blood off his knife with a cloth, jutted his chin toward the pigs, and signaled them to begin.
"You're a monster!"
A female doctor clapped her hands over her mouth. Then, feeling like that wasn't enough, she widened her eyes and unleashed a soul-piercing, "How dare you!"
"…They're sedated. They can't feel a thing."
The army medic didn't flinch at being called a monster—he'd heard worse—but that dramatic follow-up rattled him a bit. He explained, "Ask a vet if you don't believe me."
"You stabbed them!"
The female doctor was fired up. "We could totally use mannequins to practice and still learn just fine. And you—how dare you!!!"
"You done here or what?"
Repeating the same line over and over lost its punch and just got annoying. The army medic frowned.
"Yeah, I'm done!"
With that, the female doctor stormed out.
"Great."
The army medic watched her go, then turned to the rest. "Anyone else?"
"Can we start already?"
Shorty raised his left hand, tapping his watch with his right, hinting that time was ticking and they should quit stalling.
"Sure."
The army medic shot Shorty a mildly irritated look.
He didn't like the vibe Shorty was giving off—it rubbed him the wrong way.
"Let's put them out of their misery quick."
Shorty muttered, stepping up to tackle the pig in the middle.
Christina followed close behind.
Then Carter.
Then Big and Little Grey.
George O'Malley was the last to move.
The army medic glanced in surprise at the other residents standing by—some watching, some helping.
He'd done his homework before coming to the medical center. He knew about Adam's four star interns. But in a setup like this, all four of Adam's interns stepped up, taking spots meant for residents, and not a single resident said a word.
No—not one even tried to step forward. They just watched the interns take charge and then tagged along after.
Like it was the most natural thing in the world.
That spoke volumes, and it hit him hard.
In the military, strength ruled.
Same went for hospitals.
To the other residents, Shorty, Lexie, Carter, and O'Malley were clearly a cut above.
"No way!"
The army medic shook off the thought, scoffing inwardly. "The outside world's gone soft. Just because of Adam Duncan's status, his little interns are lording it over the residents. And these residents act like it's normal. Pathetic…"
As he sighed to himself, he caught a glimpse of everyone's movements out of the corner of his eye—and froze.
What the…
The six stabbed pigs were patched up in no time under Shorty and the others' hands.
Their skills were so smooth, he almost thought he was back on the battlefield.
If their techniques weren't so different from military field medicine, he'd have sworn these six had seen combat.
"Done."
Shorty finished first.
"Damn it!"
Christina glanced over, cursed, and picked up her pace.
"Done!"
A moment later, Christina threw her hands up and shouted.
Then Carter and the two Greys wrapped up too.
"Dr. Hunt, can I go now?"
Shorty asked.
"…Yeah."
The army medic checked the work—flawless—and nodded.

"Oh, by the way," Shorty said, pausing mid-step and turning back to the army medic. "Is there more tomorrow? This kind of practice is actually pretty solid. We've never had anyone… I mean, no one's ever bothered to set it up. If there's more, let me know."
"Yeah," Christina chimed in, shoving down her dislike for the "freak" in favor of professionalism. "This beats mannequins by a mile. Looks like the chief's really spoiling the new guy. No way they'd greenlight the budget or take the heat for this otherwise. You said you're training us for a few months—does that mean a pig a day?"
"…"
The army medic was speechless.
A joke, right?
One fat pig cost nearly a hundred bucks. Six pigs? Five or six hundred bucks. Six pigs a day for months? Tens of thousands of dollars.
Residents made, what, 30 grand a year?
Unless Adam personally signed off, the medical center would never approve that kind of cash.
Recycle the pigs? After this round, he'd planned to let them end the pigs' suffering. Once the anesthesia wore off, the pain from those wounds would kick in hard. Using pigs for live practice was one thing—reusing them and letting them suffer endlessly was another.
That female doctor's "how dare you" was still ringing in his ears!
He was reckless, not stupid.
Animal rights groups were getting fiercer by the day. That's why no one bothered with this kind of ultra-effective training anymore. A big hospital like this wasn't exactly strapped for a few grand.
"Guess that's a no."
Christina clocked his silence, disappointed. Her buried disdain crept back up as her thirst for skill took a hit. She shot the army medic a look—like she was saying, "You're not just a freak, you're a useless freak"—and walked off.
Shorty and the others peeled out too.
Only George was still at it.
"Dr. Hunt."
George greeted the army medic as he stepped over, then kept working on his pig.
"Solid skills."
The army medic gave him a once-over, saw no mockery in his eyes, and tossed out a satisfied compliment.
"Thanks."
George's lips twitched into a grin.
"If you were on the battlefield, you'd make a damn good medic."
The army medic clapped him on the shoulder.
"Really?"
George's eyes lit up.
Among Adam's four interns, he'd started with the edge of an extra year's study. But now, with internship winding down, he was slipping to the bottom again. After that mess with Liz, Adam had been cold to him too. It'd been ages since he'd heard praise like this.
